OS X :: How To Reinstall Darwin Bootloader

Dec 8, 2009

I recently made 2 hackintoshes. Now I was trying to get the AMD kernel for my hp in my office, but i ran into a little trouble. 2 days ago, I backed up my mac with time machine. Anyway, I was messing around with it, and I guess it thought my mac was a hackintosh, and it came with that nice wonderful welcome screen movie when u first get ur mac when I logged out. I had typed up a letter to a pen pal for school earlier, and hadnt backed up since before that letter. So I went into my windows 7 partition, and I tried to access my files from there, but when I went into macintosh hd, users, my account, it said there weren't any files. Now this means that this hackintosh kernel deleted my mac account.

Anyway I booted from the disk and it took an extremely long time to boot, and it take an extremely long time to boot into macintosh hd. Now if any of you are familiar with reinstalling the windows bootloader on a pc using vista or 7, then you might be able to relate. I kinda need the mac version of that boot into disk go to command prompt and type
bootrec /fixmbr
bootrec /fixboot
to reinstall the Darwin Bootloader. It takes like 3 minutes to get off the apple logo, and before it took like 30 seconds.

MacBook :: Restoring OS X Bootloader Without CD

Apr 30, 2010

How to I reinstall the os x bootloader without the osx-CD. The thing is: I tested Ubuntu just for a sec to see and try out, ya know? So I did this dozen of times before, and all worked, no problem. But now I get this stupid message, some like: "there is no bootable device, please press the "'any-key'". I couldn't find the any key, so I just pressed any key, but nothing happened. After some reboot thing, I don't know what to do I can't get into my osx, ya know? I have no osx-CD, cause I left it at my other house, quite 9 hours away.

OS X :: How To Edit EFI Partition / Bootloader

In OS X, when you go to System Preferences then Startup Disk, you can see a list of options for what OS you want to start. I am basically looking to edit that, except not on OS X. Is there any way to edit the EFI to make it boot another OS without having OS X installed in the first place? (Installing with an install CD for another OS without OS X on the system)

OS X :: Ubuntu Partition Not Shown Up On Bootloader

Sep 10, 2009

I just installed Ubuntu 9.04 onto a small 10GB partition that I quickly made in Disk Utility (resized my HFS+ partition while leaving my Windows 7 one intact). Upon reboot, I hold Option, and it only shows the 2 partitions (OS X & Windows). I was hoping it would show the Ubuntu partition. Since it doesn't, I have to use the Windows 7 bootloader to boot into Ubuntu. So, is there a way to edit my MacBook's bootloader to show all 3 partitions?

OS X :: Bootloader / Cloning Drives And Restore Function

Jan 5, 2011

I have just bought a 1.5tb hard drive for my G5 powermac (Dual Core 2.0, pc4200 ddr2 model) and I was wondering how the best way to transfer over would be. I would be putting both drives in, but then what. Can I use the Disk utility to "restore" onto the new drive from the old? Trouble is, I can't find my Leopard discs, all I have is a Snow Leopard and a Panther retail set, so it really has to be done from inside OS X. If I were to clone using the "restore" function, what would happen in terms of a bootloader? I would put the 1.5tb in slot one then, but if I left the 250gb in there for now, would that give problems? How would it know which to boot from?

OS X :: Darwin Available As Source Code Except For The ARM Variant

Jun 28, 2010

Wikipedia, on their page about Darwin (the operating system at the core of Mac OS X), says:Quote:p to Darwin 8.0, Apple released a binary installer (as an ISO image) after each major Mac OS X release that allowed one to install Darwin on PowerPC and Intel x86 computers as a standalone operating system. Minor updates were released as packages that were installed separately. Darwin is now only available as source code,[4] except for the ARM variant, which has not been released in any form separately from iPhone OS.

MacBook :: Starting - Freezes At Login And Goes To Darwin Console

Jun 22, 2009

The weirdest thing has happened to my MacBook. It was running a little slow today so I restarted it thinking it would help clear out the memory and whatnot. When I restarted it, everything seemed normal. It makes the classic "mac soud" and shows the apple with the circular loading wheel. It then goes to the login screen, just as it normally does. However, once it goes to the login screen, the spinning beachball comes up and it freezes temporarily. This is when it starts to get bad. The screen then goes black and comes up with white letters saying: Darwin/BSD (my name's Computer.) (console) login: sometimes, I have time to type in my username and password, sometimes not. Either way, the following comes up: disk0s2: 0xe0030005 (UNDEFINED)

it then goes back to the login screen, which completly freezes every time. I am completly frustrated and terrified that I will not be able to access my data, which includes over 2 years of music, pictures etc. that have not been backed up. Does anyone know what is going on with my MacBook?

Do I need to install 10.5 first and then 10.6 or can I directly install 10.6? And what application do I need to load?

MacBook Pro :: MBP Reinstall OSX ?

Jun 14, 2010

I am planing on selling my MBP. I needed to erase everything and reinstall OS X. I reformatted the drive, everything went ok. It started to install 10.5 but part way through the install, it froze at a time. I let it sit for about an hour. No change. Trying to click any of the menu icons at the top resulted in beach balling. I then, after reading advice, hard shut off the machine and rebooted to retry the install. Now, I just get a folder with a question mark and, when pressing "c" to have it boot from disk, it reads it, then ejects it. I need help to fix the problem. This is on a Macbook Pro Late 2007 edition.

Software :: Can't Reinstall MAC OS X

Dec 3, 2010

Recently my Macbook Pro had froze so I turned off the system by way of the power button. When I attempted to turn it back on I was stuck on the Startup Screen with the Apple and have not been able to get past that for several days. I had tried every solution I could look up without the use of the Mac OS X CD , which was not available to me at the time. I finally have the CD and first I tired to run disk utility on my HD (Hitachi HTS545032B9SA02 Media). Under First Aid I have no options present, not Repair Disk, nor Verify Disk, and not even Verify Disk Permissions or Repair Disk Permissions. At a loss there I attempted to reinstall Mac OS X. When I attempt that, I am brought to "Select Destination". The "Examining Available Disks" process runs but finds no options for me to reinstall Mac OS X. Again at a loss I attempt to erase the hard drive, as nothing drastically important is on the Hard Drive, when I attempt to do so. After about one second I get this message "Disk Erase failed with the error: Operation timed out". So... now. I'm completely at a loss. Is there any advice anyone can give me before I bring this to an Apple Store or is it completely hopeless. The version of OS X I have is 10.6. If any other information is needed for you to solve this problem I'll get it to you.

MacBook Pro :: How To Reinstall The SMC

Feb 22, 2012

my MBP (early 2008) seems to have a corrupted SMC.Operations that i think are managed by the SMC like booting and sleeping are having big issues:  First, to boot OSX needs about 10 minutes. After presing the power-buton the chime sounds and the apple logo appears. OSX starts loading.

Then it suddenly stops and a blue screen appears. This blue screen stays there for several minutes. Then i can hear a little sound from the hard disc   and the desktop appears as always and i can use OSX without any problems.  Second, to get the MBP to sleep isnt working at all. Closing the MBP leads to a black screen, while the fans etc are still working. There is no way to wake it up again, so i have to do a force shut down.

I already formated the hard disc and reinstalled OSX 10.6 twice, but the problem still occurs. And I already tried to reset the SMC (pressing 5sec power button etc) and tried to clean the PRAM. I have no clue if the resets were actually done. I didnt have to enter passwords etc again like i was expecting to do after a PRAM-Reset. Is there a way to reinstall the SMC? I tried to but i got the message "Firmware is already up to date. No update necessary."

Can Reinstall Safari 5.1.2 Over 5.1.3

Mar 2, 2012

Safari 5.1.3 is a disaster. Ever since I upgraded a week ago I have had nothing but heartache, with multiple issues cropping up, all of them seemingling unfixable. As it turns out I have a backup of my system that has my previous, non-heartache version of Safari 5.1.2. My question is simple: Now that I've "upgraded" to Lion 10.7.3 and Safari 5.1.3, can I simply overwrite Safari 5.1.3 with the previous 5.1.2 version and get on with my life? Or will various changes throughout the system cause me more misery? Otherwise, I may just roll my whole system back to last week's backup and get on with my life.
