OS9/OS8/System 7 :: WILL NOT ALLOW An Install Boot From ANYTHING Other Than The Jaguar CD?

Mar 7, 2012

This machine WILL NOT ALLOW an Install Boot from ANYTHING other than the Jaguar CD. Screen "blinks" when I attempt to use Sys Pref to designate the 10.4 DVD ... Holding down "C" key is a waste, PRAM & NVRAM have been attempted. Re-installing the 10.2 OS still has the SAME RESULT: Machine refuses ANY Sys Pref Startup OTHER than 10.2 ... PERIOD ... Just get a "blink" on the display, no Error Msg, just a blink .I've erased, zeroed & formatted the 80GB HD, matching RAM (4 X 256MB) ... so I'm pretty sure I need to get this "Firmware" thing resolved so the logic board stops being ILLOGICAL ... or ... is it IMPOSSIBLE to go from 10.2 direct to 10.4? Again, Machine info is;400 MHz PPC G4 Silver 1 MB RAM, with a CLEAN 80GB HD As far as OTHER Posts have indicated, I need to download & run the 4.1.7 firmware ... it is VERY DIFFICULT to find ANYWHERE that is governed by Cupertino ...

Info:
Power Mac G4 (PCI Graphics), Mac OS X (10.3.x), Frankenstein Assembled Machine ...

MacBook Pro :: System Hangs At Apple Logo Boot Screen / RAM Not Allowing System To Boot

Jan 5, 2011

I've been reading this site for a while now, first time I'm posting. I recently purchased 8 GB of RAM for my 2010 13" MBP. There are two 4 GB DDR3 PC3-10500 1333mhz sticks. When I install them in the laptop my computer does not get past the apple logo boot screen (the spinning disc freezes). However, I can boot into Windows (boot camp) without issues.

Also, when I pair either of the 4 GB sticks with one of my old 2 GB stock sticks the laptop boots up fine in OS X. The system profiler registers it as 6 GB of 1067 mhz RAM (the stock sticks are 1067 mhz)

I've been trying to find a download of the Developement Tools for Jaguar on the Apple site and have failed.I know that it was released as a CD version with the installation CD set for Jaguar. I know that it was also available from Apple as a download. I also know that starting with Panther it was renamed Xcode. However the Developers download site does not seem to have any software covering the years 1998 to 2006. Does the download I want still exist on Apple's site - but I have not stumbled on the right place to go ?

OS X :: Does Boot Camp 3.0 Support A Triple Boot System?

I have done some research on triple boot systems, and it appears that a third OS must be run virtually, but all the information I came across was a few years old. Microsoft is running a deal right now on Windows 7 for students so I would like to pick up a copy and try it out.

Is it possible to run 3 operating systems through Boot Camp 3.0? I am not interested in running a virtual OS.

Current Setup:
13" macbook pro
Snow Leopard and Windows XP through Boot Camp

Just an FYI. Tech Support at Allsoft states The Disk Warrior 4.2 Boot DVD will not Boot the new 2010 MBP's. They are waiting for information (software) from Apple.

Will need to use Target Mode or another Mac connected with Firewire till then. Boot from that then run DW from your MBP.

What I've Tried:

Deleted partition, recreate partition and choose the Windows 7 disk as startup disk.

OS X :: System Re-installation Via Install Disks / Install Disks Not Present?

Nov 27, 2010

I have a Macbook Pro Intel Core Duo (first generation of MacBook Pro released). I run OSX 10.6.5. My disk utility has detected a problem and says I need the install disks that came with the computer. Called apple and they said I could reboot from snow leopard or the upgrade.** Problem is that I don't have any disks with me except those that came with my brand new iMac. Can I use those to reinstall the system? Is there any other way?

**They also said that after 2007, the install disks that come with computers are keyed to that specific computer so I "might" not be able to use the disk to repair.

Additionally, and I don't know if this makes a difference but I have the airport/time capsule which backs up my computer for easy restore.

It looks like it is loading, and then the spinning circle just freezes and the system never moves from that spot.I've even tried booting to an install disc to run disk utility and such, but it won't even boot to that. It does the same thing and hangs on the gray screen. I feel pretty powerless here not being able to even boot to a DVD/CD. The only other thing that I've noticed is ocassionaly the lower 1/5 of the screen will blip with a horizontal orange bar.

When I use the "C" for Disk Warrior the the system folder appears and switches with a Question mark. Again when I try to boot from the OS 10.5 install disk, I have the flashing folder when I hold the "C" down. The same problem I had with Disk Warrior.

This is a very recent thing and I honestly didn't do anything to make it happen. When the problem first started happening it would also have the spinning thing on the bottom of the screen for about 5 seconds at the blue screen when shutting down. It doesn't do that as of lately though. If anyone knows how to stop it from making me log in every time I boot let me know. I will be checking back so if anyone wants to use ichat to log onto my computer to check settings let me know.

Mac Pro :: System Drive Not Boot From Start Up

Mar 15, 2010

I have a Mac Pro, Intel quad core, with several HDs, 2 of which are bootable. One runs Mac OSX 10.4.9 (and houses Pro Tools HD 7.4) and the other runs 10.5.8 (with Pro Tools HD 8.0.2). The Tiger disk is absolutely fine but the Leopard disk will not boot from a stand-still. It can be booted from Startup Disk in System Preferences but if it was the last drive in use then trying boot from off results in a permanent hang on the grey screen. A workaround is holding ALT on startup and choose the Tiger disk but this shouldn't be happening so has anyone experienced this and solved it? I'm trying to avoid a full re-instal but that is an option.

MacBook Pro :: System Keeps Freezing On Boot

Aug 4, 2010

My early-2010 i7 MBP keeps freezing within minutes of boot. I just tried booting in safe mode, and it just froze for the 6th time in 24hrs (like the 4th in a row). I've never performed a time machine backup with this computer (I got it about a month ago), so a full restore would be an absolute last ditch option. Like I said, this keeps happening within a minute of boot. The screen is on, but everything completely locks up. The cursor can't be moved, keyboard doesn't do anything, etc. I have to keep forcing it to shut off w/ the power button.
