The (in Lion) slider at the bottome right of the Finder window used to adjust size of thumbnails. Now it's disconnected. I can only change size via View Options. which switch I turned on…or off?

When I open my server window, there are no longer lines between the columns when the first desktop window opens as "list." I like to adjust these columns so that the "name" column is wider than the rest. I cannot do that the old way, by putting my curser on the line between the columns and widening it, as there are no lines between the columns. Strangely, the secondary windows do have lines, and can be adjusted in the old way.

i reset my powerbook and now i have no sound! when i press F4 of F6 to change the volume the little picture pops up to confirm that you pressed the button and it shows the volume at max but there is a crossed out circle underneath it. and when i check it in the preference pane it shows the volume slider as grayed out and also in the menu bar it is grayed!

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a 24" LED Cinema Display and can no longer control the brightness settings in OSX I believe when I applied the recent java/bluetooth updates the slider disappeared upon reboot. I did some searching and can't come up with a way to get it back. I'm using a 15" Unibody MBP, and the brightness slider for that screen is available and does work. I also tried setting the keyboard shortcuts on my main keyboard (external) to turn up/down the brightness but they won't function at all.
I have tried zapping the PRAM, repairing permissions, and disconnecting/reconnecting the display, as well as booting with no external display and nothing has made the slider reappear. I also logged-in as a different user and the slider is not there for the Cinema on that profile either. I really, really hope I don't have to reinstall OSX to get rid of this but I'm out of ideas. The worst of it is that I turned down the brightness to less than half (when it worked) becuase I had a headache and now it's stuck there!
I have just realised that the Brightness slider in Display Prefs on my Mac Pro is missing. Running SL 10.6.2 with an Apple 24inch ACD connected.
View 8 Replies View RelatedThe issue is with the brightness keys and the brightness slider controls. It appears that after the 10.4 upgrade the main LCD on some PBs and iBooks stops working. In my case the attached screen lost the ability to adjust brightness, but my external 20" LCD is fine. It looks like two things have happened. The association between the keys (F1 and F2) and the code for controlling brightness somehow got disconnected and/or the "capability" of the mac to adjust the brightness of the attached LCD got lost in the upgrade. We've tried repair permissions, rebooting, new users to no avail.

So I'm trying to adjust the font in a PDF in Preview. I can't do it....is there a way? I also realized that I don't have Adobe....I have Adobe Digital for downloaded books but I guess that's all it's for.
I went online and all I can find is Adobe to buy.
So, finally my question....can I adjust the font in Preview? Zooming doesn't work for me...won't bore you with the reasons.
Or will I have to buy Adobe to get that function in PDF's?

is it normal that I cant adjust the partition size from partitions on an external harddrive? one is for time machine, another is partitioned for mac, and a tird is NTFS. a want to enlarge the NTFS but seem to not be able to.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI recently bought an ACD which I hook up to my MacBook. I watch videos and movies on it late at night so instead of playing it through the speakers I prefer to play it through headphones so I don't keep everyone up.
This works great with iTunes. I plug them into my MacBook and off I go. For VLC, however, it STILL plays the audio through the speakers even though my headphones are plugged in.
How do I change it so the audio plays through the headphones when plugged in using VLC instead of the speakers. (Jeez, you'd think this would be basic functionality. >_>)
I have recently switched back to OSX with the new i7 MBP. I was wondering if there is any way to adjust the transparency of the menu bar? I like the transparency, I would just like to make it a tad more opaque. Is there a way?

I did a software update and now its 10.10.1 the problem is when I try to adjust the volume the following icons appear, sound source are the internal speakers and i don't have any earphones/external speakers connected.

not sure if this matters, but what is the best way to adjust the volume since with computer speakers there are 2 sources to adjust volume -- on the Mac and on the speakers.
Currently I have my Mac volume up about 3/4, then I use the pod that comes with the Bose Companion 5 to adjust volume. I wonder if I should bring the Mac volume control all way to max, then use the pod to control the volume? Asking the audiophiles here, does it matter?
I just switched from Windows to MAC 2 days ago - a brand new Macbook Pro. Needless to say I love the design of the machine. However I am having a slight problem with the fonts in OS X. I have always loved Windows XP fonts, and to a lesser extent Vista fonts. But my first impressions of OS X fonts have been terrible - They feel blurry, and very very soft, and very unlike crisp and sharp nature of XP fonts. My question is - is there a way of adjusting the fonts in OS X to make it look more like Windows? I almost feel blind looking at the fonts right now in OS X.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have been writing a book using Text Edit RTF for composition, and then exporting to PDF.
Before Yosemite, when I changed the width of the RTF writing window (say, from 65 letters per line to 75 letters per line), and then exported to PDF, the PDF reflected the change in letter count - IE the PDF now would show 75 letters per line, just like the RTF did.
Now, with Yosemite, the letter count stays the same in the exported PDF no matter how many letters per line are in the RTF before export.
This is a big problem for me because I was formatting the pages based on 70 letters-per-line and now I am getting PDFs that have 90+ letters per line. This means that all the headings that I had at the top of pages are showing up a few lines either way from the top. This messes up the look of the pages and makes it harder for the reader to spot topics they want to focus on.
Any way to get the letter count to stay the same in the PDF export as it is in the RTF/Text Edit page before export?
My iMac keyboard ( F keys) suddenly changed. The F11 and F12 keys no longer adjust volume. Some other keys F3 also changed.

I have found the Max volume in OS X to be lower than I would like - especially when viewing DVDs or online movies. Is there a way in which I can adjust the system maximum volume output? Connecting external speakers is sometimes an annoyance.

It seems to come on even in a fairly well lit room and I mainly only need it in a completely dark room. So I find myself hitting the backlight keys to turn it off and then whenever it wakes from sleep goes back to full bright. Didn't find anything in the keyboard preferences and found a program called Lab Tick which will take care of the level on wake.
