I have found the Max volume in OS X to be lower than I would like - especially when viewing DVDs or online movies. Is there a way in which I can adjust the system maximum volume output? Connecting external speakers is sometimes an annoyance.
View 4 RepliesWhenever I adjust the volume on the speakers themselves, they shut off. I have to grab the subwoofer and unplug/plug in again to get any sound to come out. I do not understand what caused this to happen all of a sudden as these speakers worked great for 2 years.

I can mute by going to System Preferences but I don't want to do this.Before I changed the volume in System Preferences, the keyboard keys worked fine for volume adjustment. I could make it quieter, louder or mute.I have tried with checking and not checking the option to display volume on the screen (in System Preferences).

I am not sure if this is a very common issue or topic but how do you adjust or modify your apple keyboard so that you can adjust screen brightness or volume? I am currently running Windows XP SP3, on a 2.4Ghz Unibody Macbook.
I recently bought an ACD which I hook up to my MacBook. I watch videos and movies on it late at night so instead of playing it through the speakers I prefer to play it through headphones so I don't keep everyone up.
This works great with iTunes. I plug them into my MacBook and off I go. For VLC, however, it STILL plays the audio through the speakers even though my headphones are plugged in.
How do I change it so the audio plays through the headphones when plugged in using VLC instead of the speakers. (Jeez, you'd think this would be basic functionality. >_>)
I can no longer adjust the volume on my MacPro. I've rebooted the computer, repaired permissions, etc.

I just bought a new 15 inch retina display macbook pro a couple days ago, it came with yoemite installed, it was 10.10. I did a software update and now its 10.10.1 the problem is when I try to adjust the volume the following icons appear, sound source are the internal speakers and i don't have any earphones/external speakers connected.

not sure if this matters, but what is the best way to adjust the volume since with computer speakers there are 2 sources to adjust volume -- on the Mac and on the speakers.
Currently I have my Mac volume up about 3/4, then I use the pod that comes with the Bose Companion 5 to adjust volume. I wonder if I should bring the Mac volume control all way to max, then use the pod to control the volume? Asking the audiophiles here, does it matter?
My iMac keyboard ( F keys) suddenly changed. The F11 and F12 keys no longer adjust volume. Some other keys F3 also changed.

I have recently purchased a macbook pro. I have added an aol email account to my mail, which is great but although i can receive emails, I am unable to send them. I get the message Verify that you have addressed this message correctly. Check your SMTP server settings in Mail preferences and verify any advanced settings with your system administrator. I have checked the settings and the connection doctor and everything is fine.If I need to send email i have to log ito my aol account via safari, but I would much rather use the mail that is set upon my mac.

I have recently put windows 7 professional on my aluminum macbook, installed all the drivers, and so forth. I hook up my macbook up to an external monitor, and use a logitech dinovo keyboard for a mac. However, when I am in windows 7, the function keys do not adjust volume, brightness, and any other of the functions.

I like it, and also love that the F7-9 Skip Back-Pause/Play-Skip Forward keys work for iTunes, even when another app is active (what's the word I'm looking for - in focus or whatever). But I use Optical output, so the volume keys (F10-12) don't do anything. I know that, when iTunes is the active app, I can command-+/- to change the volume, but I'd love to be able to map the F10-12 keys to do that - without having to have iTunes active (playing, but not the active window).

I would have chosen for HDMI, but the Dell monitor lacked that unfortunately. I've installed Windows 7 on a BootCamp partition, and I happened to be in Windows when I did this. When I turned it on, it was a duplicate display of my iMac screen. Same resolution. I went to control panel and screen resolution, and chose for 'extend these displays', but suddenly the resolution on the Dell went from 2560 x 1440 (like the iMac) to a max of 1280 x 800

View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm looking to output my mac pro to my HDTV (cheap mans video output monitor). I got a DVI to HDMI connector and all the females and males seem to agree to the point that its all connected up rather well. Only problem is that my mac pro only detects my computer monitor, not the TV that I've attached. Things to note:
* I normally run two monitors at 1920 x 1200. I just removed one and replaced with DVI > HDMI adapter going to TV.
* I can get the display to work in windows (although for some reason, although it outputs to the TV via HDMI the other screen stops working) so the connectors are working fine.
* I tried hooking up the monitor to the port, downgrade the res to something below 1080, then connected the TV again, no result!
* I couldn't get 1080 resolution on my screens as its not an option in the display preferences.
* Before anyone states the obvious (at this point even that would be helpful) I restarted every time I attached another display.
* I have searched google, apple support, and these forums and I feel im going insane.
To summarise, I haven't seen my mac on the TV yet. Its staring back at me with a blank black.
I recently bought a 2009 Mac Pro. Now, I'm trying to setup a small bedroom home theater. And sound is still my main problem here. I used my Mac Pro mainly for doing graphic works, listening to music, watching movie, and gaming sometimes.

Harman Kardon Sound sticks (trying to get rid of this and replace it with a 5.1 or 7.1 system)

My plan is to get audio out through the optical output. But according to several articles I read online, optical output does not transmit audio when I play music on iTunes or play games (in BootCamp), is it true? So far, I couldn't find any sound card (internal or external) which work for mac pro that has 3 analog 5.1 signal output which I can use with standard 5.1 speakers. The only things I found is the Creative DDTS-100 and the FireWire which were all discontinued. What other options do I have?

Previous History: I'm on a MacPro and I have my main user account on another volume than my system. This has worked just beautifully for me over the past years, sometimes there are drawbacks and it's kind of more failure-prone in some cases. This 'some cases' now happened again: there was a blackout and after that I couldn't login to my user account on the non-system volume anymore. I've been there once and hadn't any problems fixing it somehow, but now I screwed up big time.

After running a volume repair that failed I tried to restart my laptop, but when it gets to the blue loading screen, it takes forever and then shuts off. I can still run the Mac os x installer. When I go to disk utility, the Macintosh hd tab is visible, whereas it wasn't available before. Okay scratch that it isn't available anymore. Though, I just clicked on startup disk and it is visible there.

Well, I've noticed that this hasn't been happening lately and some of my other sounds have disappeared too, such as in ichat, the sent message and received message sounds aren't occurring even though the settings are set for them to happen. Anyone else experienced this before? I just want to know how I can get my volume keys to work again so that I can hear them as I raise and lower the volume even if there's no sound coming
View 4 Replies View RelatedFor some reason, I can't get Logic Express 8 to output audio to my Mac's attached speakers. It outputs fine through my M-Audio interface, though, but I'd just like to listen without headphones.
My sound keeps turning off. When I check the settings, the output device switches randomly between Internal and Digital output. I have no idea where the Digitial Output is coming from and this started about a month again. It switches randomly and then I loose all sound for a few seconds. Sometimes it happens once then stops for a few days, other times it switches back and forth for 5 min. No idea!!!
