I got screen sharing to work on my local network... so I can connect to my 27" iMac from 13" MBP.ution is just too much for my MBP to handle.Is there a way to automatically adjust the resolution on my iMac when I initiate screen share, and automatically turn it back to native resolution when I stop close screen share?
View 3 RepliesI've connected up my external monitor, which is a bigger Samsung 1600x900 and and I'm having some issues.. I'm trying to get the MacBook to recognize the Samsung when I plug it in and automatically adjust the settings, so I don't have to muck around with the settings every-time. Is there anyway of doing this? oh and disabling the MacBook's display so it doesn't detect it as a second monitor?

I can mute by going to System Preferences but I don't want to do this.Before I changed the volume in System Preferences, the keyboard keys worked fine for volume adjustment. I have purchased my first Mac a IMAC 20.5" 3.06 GHz. I had been a PC User for over 25 years and am having a bit of difficulty in setting up the everyday Toolbar Visuals. I work all day on my MAC 27" and am constantly opening files....
But how do I customise the 'open file' window. Every time I open a file I have to increase the size of the window, change the view and then look for my files.... is there a way to set the default view to what I would wish it to be?
I have enclosed a screen shot of the default open file window.... I would like a bigger window...... and be able to see 'list view' as opposed to icons each time.

I installed Snow Leopard. Everything went well but I had one problem. I used DVI-HDMI cable to connect my Monitor. My monitor resolution is 1920x1200, and it doesn't have a DVI port. Only VGA and HDMI. Everything worked fine with Leopard, and I can see the 1920x1200 option listed in the System Prefs. But in SL, this option disappeared, instead they added 480p,720p,1080i, and 1080p.
View 6 Replies View RelatedIt's a Dell 29" monitor (I don't have the product name). I connected the two monitors using a mini-displayport-to-DVI connector. I would have chosen for HDMI, but the Dell monitor lacked that unfortunately. I've installed Windows 7 on a BootCamp partition, and I happened to be in Windows when I did this. When I turned it on, it was a duplicate display of my iMac screen. Same resolution. I went to control panel and screen resolution, and chose for 'extend these displays', but suddenly the resolution on the Dell went from 2560 x 1440 (like the iMac) to a max of 1280 x 800
View 14 Replies View RelatedToday I did my normal software update as usual only to find out the Lion update left me with only two choices of screen resolution, 1920x1200(too big) and 960x600(too small), on my 24" iMac. The same update did not affect my Pro. As I need a 1024x768 screen resolution on my iMac, how can I restore those screen resolution settings? I called AppleCare, and they sent me an additional update that I downloaded and installed but it did not change anything. My iMac is right at 5 years old. Do these things ever get to the point that updates create such problems? Everything was working perfectly until this happened. Plus they said there's no way to go back(that is, return to the same point that I was before the update).

My old 24" iMac had an ATI radeon 4850 card, and playing some of my favorite game titles (fallout 3, and Dawn of War) worked fine - atleast in comparison to my old White iMac 24".
Now I'm going to purchase a 27" i5 iMac with the Radeon 4850 card. My question is; since it�s the same GPU and playing in native resolution will be a tough job. Will the quality of playing games in 1080p be much lower?
I just want to know if this will be a significante downgrade. Or if playing games in 1920x1080 will be a good quality choice.
Is there a way to open System Preferences automatically when a monitor is plugged in and plugged out of the notebook?

I have a MacBook, OS X 10.4.11, 2 GHz Intel Core Duo.
Today, all of a sudden my laptop seems to reset. My desktop flickers and then all files are out of place, the colors have changed etc. When I open an application, all my settings are GONE. This concerns mail, firefox (no more bookmarks), all of my pictures in iPhoto are gone, files that I was downloading with Vuze have disappeared... Everything is as if I've just bought a new computer. iTunes seems to be OK though, all of my music is still there. And all data (word documents etc) are still on my hard drive.
Can anyone help me to retrieve my former settings?
Another problem I want to ask about : I have all my pictures copied in a file on my hard drive. But all in a small size. Does anyone know how I stop this from happening automatically?
I should mention that I don't have many computer skills, and don't speak much jargon, so it would be nice to answer in dummy language. :-)
I'm using a Macbook Pro OS X and was wondering if there is a way to stop my airport/wireless internet from automatically connecting to the internet when i start my computer.I want it so that it disconnects from the internet when i close the lid and for it to stay disconnected until i manually reconnect it myself again. I'm currently connected to shared internet which does not require me to enter a password.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI have a Seagate Free Agent external USB hard disk (250 GB) which I had reformatted to FAT32. This draws power from the USB port and seems to work perfectly on my Linux (Fedora Core 8) and Windows (XP) boxes. On the Mac, when it is plugged in, it asks me whether it should Initialize, Ignore or Eject. I choose "Ignore" and then go on to mount it from the terminal using the commands sudo mkdir /Volume/FA sudo mount /dev/disk2s1 /Volume/FA. The device name has to be found out first using Disk Utility. After it is mounted, I can read, write, delete etc. without any problem.
Question: Why does it not mount this disk automatically? Even when it is mounted why does it not put a disk icon on my Desktop? I have no issues with smaller FAT32 pen drives which show up on my Desktop a few seconds after I plug them in.

I retrofitted a Toshiba dvd/cdrw 2512 in my indigo ibook, following instructions found online. Opens fine with f12 key, and drilled hole for paperclip eject if need. Plays dvds and burns cds great (patchburn installed to burn from itunes too). But, the drive also opens when the ibook is turned on and when it comes out of sleep. Is this a glitch that can be fixed. Not a big deal but would like to have it not open if possible.

So one day I activated deep sleep from this widget like I always do when I want to keep my 100% charge and i'm traveling with my macbook and keep my stuff saved.
It didn't work. So I kept clicking. clicking. clicking. Nothing.
So I slept my mac, and woke it again and it worked.
However when I went to wake it, I just got a grey screen. I held down the power button to cold boot, and when I rebooted it booted from the RAM file like it would normally when waking from deep sleep.
But now every-time I close the laptop it goes into deep sleep.
Purchased machine in Dec. 07. All well till Nov. 08. Since then have noticed that it will go into standby then wake up. This happens regularly, sometimes after 1 hour, or 2 hours or a few minutes. Have tried to put it in 'sleep' mode but wakes up just the same. All day and all night. So tried "shut down' and it does it as well. Like a ghost is working it.
Have been in constant touch with APPLE CARE, and they made me get another user (test) and it did not seem to wake up in that user. Went back to my user and problem started again. Spoke with 2 product specialists and one said that it cannot be EYETV, as he had it on his Mac and it was fine. Second specialist said it is EYETV and I should contact Elgato. I did this and was sent a link to 'repair'. Followed the instructions and that did not help. 4 days later, my computer suddenly remained in stand by all day.
I was surprised and relieved. Than it started all over again. I am at my wits end. I can only make it stay shut down if I go to 'shut down' and wait for the screen to go black then turn it off at the power point. I am sure that I should not be doing this, but what else can I do? I will contact APPLE CARE again, but will wait for your reply first. Also, I get a little message saying...Time Machine Error. Unable to complete backup. An error occured while copying files to backup volume.
I'm a little confused about the resolutions of the iMac 21.5 inch compared the iMac 27 inch.
In terms of watching HD content, which is better, as one is 1080p so it is perfectly formatted for this type of content but the other is higher (2560 by 1440 pixels), will this mean it is better because there are more pixels or worse because it is a different size? I'm a little confused about this. Also is it possible to change the resolution to 1920x1080 on the 27 inch? What will this do exactly? If I were to apply a 1920 x 1080 wallpaper for example to the 27 inch iMac will this look better/worse?
So my parents just bought a 21.5" iMac which has replaced their aging PC that came with a CRT(!!). The first thing they noticed was that the resolution is too high. Obviously, lowering this makes everything blurry but of course, no such problem with the CRT where they had nice big text and icons.
Surely there must be a way around this? Some software solution perhaps? They've zoomed in with Safari but that doesn't help the rest of the system and is a real pain to do it for every individual app.
Its understandably difficult for them to understand why something so many years advanced of what they had, can't do something so simple as changing resolutions. I even had a hard time exaplaining that this was an LCD issue, and nothing to do with a mac.
I have and iMac on the way. Been using dual monitors for years with other operating systems. The second monitor I have is a 22" Planar PL2210MW that will do 1680x1050. The iMac is the 21.5" with the ATI Radeon HD 4670, 1TB drive, 3.06ghz Dual core.
