So I have an AVI file that won't even load in quicktime, but it plays fine in VLC and MPlayer. As far as I can tell neither of these programs let you adjust the color, contrast or brightness of the file. Does anyone know of a program that will allow me to do this?

The reason I am asking is that I am using a Spyder colorimeter to calibrate my monitor and it is asking me which controls exist on the display:
-brightness
-contrast
-backlight
My thinking is that F1 and F2 control the backlight level and not the "brightness" level, if you get what I mean.
I was plugging along on the internet when I decided to try the spoken commands for the first time. When I opened System Preferences and clicked on the microphone, at that instant my screen flickered and changed in both quality and what appears to be contrast and tint. I tried in vain to correct this by way of the controls for the Display in Sys. Prefs. but to no avail. I would like to know if I have a video problem or a memory problem.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI found the setting under Displays to automatically adjust brightness, but is there a way to set this different for Battery or Power Adapter? I would like to keep this option on for using the Battery, but would like the display at a constant level when using the Power Adapter.

I'm trying to get the MacBook to recognize the Samsung when I plug it in and automatically adjust the settings, so I don't have to muck around with the settings every-time. Is there anyway of doing this? oh and disabling the MacBook's display so it doesn't detect it as a second monitor?

I work all day on my MAC 27" and am constantly opening files....
But how do I customise the 'open file' window. Every time I open a file I have to increase the size of the window, change the view and then look for my files.... is there a way to set the default view to what I would wish it to be?
I have enclosed a screen shot of the default open file window.... I would like a bigger window...... and be able to see 'list view' as opposed to icons each time.

View 2 Replies View RelatedToday while working with an InDesign document it crashed and I had to reboot the hard way. After starting up again the colors of my screen was all twisted and strange. It's like a very high contrast/bad resolution. Except for the screen-issue the machine works fine. I tried changing setting in preferences/display (no. of colors, resolution and color profiles) didn't work. I then tried resetting the PRAM, which didn't have any effect either. I tried creating a new user and logging into the account - and it looked fine? It's probably just a pref-file that need rebuilding or the like, but I have no clue as to where that might be. I work on a G5 PowerMac with Tiger on it.
View 3 Replies View RelatedHiI'm gonna purchase the 27" iMac but I'm curious about an aspect of monitors I've never considered. The iMac has a contrast ratio of 1000:1. When I look at ads for TVs, whether it's LCDs or plasmas, the contrast ratios are significantly greater. Can the contrast ratios of TVs be compared directly to computer monitors? Is for example the 1000:1 on the iMac exactly equivalent to a 1000:1 specification on a TV?
View 4 Replies View Relatedthe contrast brush (or tool) became much smaller, even at maximum size setting. Other tools are not affected. I've rebooted several times, even had a hard crash (spinning beach ball), but after restart the problem remains. The diameter of the tool on screen is somewhat relative to file size, but on average the maximum diameter setting offers a contrast tool diameter of about 1 inch…maybe 1 ½ inches. On a 27 inch monitor, that's not much. What can I do to achieve a "reset" on the diameter of this tool?

I want to buy the 27" iMac - but only if I can use it as external monitor for my Lenovo laptop when working from home. A the Apple store in London they said that this is possible with a Belkin converter from hdmi to mini display port (with a USB power caple to turn it into an active signal). The laptop also has a displayport.

So I'm trying to adjust the font in a PDF in Preview. I can't do it....is there a way? I also realized that I don't have Adobe....I have Adobe Digital for downloaded books but I guess that's all it's for.
I went online and all I can find is Adobe to buy.
So, finally my question....can I adjust the font in Preview? Zooming doesn't work for me...won't bore you with the reasons.
Or will I have to buy Adobe to get that function in PDF's?
If you can't tell I'm new to the Mac, coming over from Windows for 12 years!!

View 7 Replies View RelatedI recently bought an ACD which I hook up to my MacBook. I watch videos and movies on it late at night so instead of playing it through the speakers I prefer to play it through headphones so I don't keep everyone up.
This works great with iTunes. I plug them into my MacBook and off I go. For VLC, however, it STILL plays the audio through the speakers even though my headphones are plugged in.
How do I change it so the audio plays through the headphones when plugged in using VLC instead of the speakers. (Jeez, you'd think this would be basic functionality. >_>)
I have recently switched back to OSX with the new i7 MBP. I was wondering if there is any way to adjust the transparency of the menu bar? I like the transparency, I would just like to make it a tad more opaque. Is there a way?

not sure if this matters, but what is the best way to adjust the volume since with computer speakers there are 2 sources to adjust volume -- on the Mac and on the speakers.
Currently I have my Mac volume up about 3/4, then I use the pod that comes with the Bose Companion 5 to adjust volume. I wonder if I should bring the Mac volume control all way to max, then use the pod to control the volume? Asking the audiophiles here, does it matter?
I just switched from Windows to MAC 2 days ago - a brand new Macbook Pro. Needless to say I love the design of the machine. However I am having a slight problem with the fonts in OS X. I have always loved Windows XP fonts, and to a lesser extent Vista fonts. But my first impressions of OS X fonts have been terrible - They feel blurry, and very very soft, and very unlike crisp and sharp nature of XP fonts. My question is - is there a way of adjusting the fonts in OS X to make it look more like Windows? I almost feel blind looking at the fonts right now in OS X.
