Does the mac pro's require additional heat cooling on the memory, does the memory from crucial come with this, is it easy to install like the powermac or am I going to be left floundering like a fish out of water....

OS X :: Can I Adjust The Font In Preview?
Jan 3, 2011So I'm trying to adjust the font in a PDF in Preview. I can't do it....is there a way? I also realized that I don't have Adobe....I have Adobe Digital for downloaded books but I guess that's all it's for.
I went online and all I can find is Adobe to buy.
So, finally my question....can I adjust the font in Preview? Zooming doesn't work for me...won't bore you with the reasons.
Or will I have to buy Adobe to get that function in PDF's?
If you can't tell I'm new to the Mac, coming over from Windows for 12 years!!

Aug 14, 2009I recently bought an ACD which I hook up to my MacBook. I watch videos and movies on it late at night so instead of playing it through the speakers I prefer to play it through headphones so I don't keep everyone up.
This works great with iTunes. I plug them into my MacBook and off I go. For VLC, however, it STILL plays the audio through the speakers even though my headphones are plugged in.
How do I change it so the audio plays through the headphones when plugged in using VLC instead of the speakers. (Jeez, you'd think this would be basic functionality. >_>)

I did a software update and now its 10.10.1 the problem is when I try to adjust the volume the following icons appear, sound source are the internal speakers and i don't have any earphones/external speakers connected.

Can I adapt the EVGA's GeForce GTX 285 Mac Edition for use? It comes with the cables, and I more than willing to pay the extra $$$ to save myself hunting around for parts.
I'm also a bit confused about the 4870 upgrade. Does the Apple version work out of the box on my 1,1? If so, maybe that's the way to go for now?
MacPro Won't Boot From CD
Mar 29, 2012I'm trying to reboot Snow Leopard on a Mac Pro and reformat the HD. But of course, nothing can ever be easy and the darn thing will not boot from CD..It just boots from the HD and takes me to the login screen everytime,has anyone else had this problem?

Hardware :: Best Way To Adjust Volume On Speakers?
Dec 23, 2010not sure if this matters, but what is the best way to adjust the volume since with computer speakers there are 2 sources to adjust volume -- on the Mac and on the speakers.
Currently I have my Mac volume up about 3/4, then I use the pod that comes with the Bose Companion 5 to adjust volume. I wonder if I should bring the Mac volume control all way to max, then use the pod to control the volume? Asking the audiophiles here, does it matter?

Jun 19, 2007I just switched from Windows to MAC 2 days ago - a brand new Macbook Pro. Needless to say I love the design of the machine. However I am having a slight problem with the fonts in OS X. I have always loved Windows XP fonts, and to a lesser extent Vista fonts. But my first impressions of OS X fonts have been terrible - They feel blurry, and very very soft, and very unlike crisp and sharp nature of XP fonts. My question is - is there a way of adjusting the fonts in OS X to make it look more like Windows? I almost feel blind looking at the fonts right now in OS X.

I like to adjust these columns so that the "name" column is wider than the rest. I cannot do that the old way, by putting my curser on the line between the columns and widening it, as there are no lines between the columns. Strangely, the secondary windows do have lines, and can be adjusted in the old way.

OS X Yosemite :: Can't Adjust PDF Line Size?
Dec 11, 2014I have been writing a book using Text Edit RTF for composition, and then exporting to PDF.
Before Yosemite, when I changed the width of the RTF writing window (say, from 65 letters per line to 75 letters per line), and then exported to PDF, the PDF reflected the change in letter count - IE the PDF now would show 75 letters per line, just like the RTF did.
Now, with Yosemite, the letter count stays the same in the exported PDF no matter how many letters per line are in the RTF before export.
This is a big problem for me because I was formatting the pages based on 70 letters-per-line and now I am getting PDFs that have 90+ letters per line. This means that all the headings that I had at the top of pages are showing up a few lines either way from the top. This messes up the look of the pages and makes it harder for the reader to spot topics they want to focus on.
Any way to get the letter count to stay the same in the PDF export as it is in the RTF/Text Edit page before export?
Mac Pro :: MacPro Raid And Bootcamp?
Feb 29, 2008I'm putting together a workstation that primarily is going to be used for Windows development and I wanted to have as fast a disk subsystem as possible.
It doesn't seem to be BootCamp drivers available for the card that Apple sells, so I found this card instead:

It has EFI firmware and is able to boot MacOSX from raid arrays. The only question is if it is able to boot stuff through Bios emulation.
Vista x64 is the primary target here, and SP1 actually has EFI booting support, so it might be possible to use this. However when I tried to install Vista x64 with SP1 integrated on the MacBook Air I wasn't even able to boot installer DVD because of EFI incompatibilities.
Anyone have any experiences with booting BootCamp on a MacPro with a raid card?
PowerPC :: Need To Upgrade From G5 To MacPro?
Mar 4, 2008I am a student who is currently starting to work on some at home projects with cartoon animation (Toon Boom) and Video Editing (Final Cut/After Effects). I have a Dual 2.0 G5 with 1G Ram. Would there be a significant advantage in upgrading to a Dual 2.8 Mac Pro? I could probably get 700-800 dollars for the current computer so, would dropping 2000 on a new tower give me a huge boost in performance? (Money is kind of an issue but not if the difference is staggering.) Or should I just upgrade the RAM on my current tower, be happy with what I have and quit jabbering?

Jun 25, 2009I'd like to change my system drive on my Mac Pro to the Intel X25-m 160 gig I just purchased.When I previously upgraded my laptop to SSD, I used carbon copy cloner to clone the internal drive onto the SSD.Unfortunately, I had a couple of authorization issues, one of which being for CS3. Somehow cloning the internal drive onto the SSD and replacing the internal drive with the SSD tripped up the authorizations.
On my Mac Pro I have a few more programs I'm worried about having to reauthorize if the same thing happens. All programs are legal installs, so I could reauthorize, but it is a headache. Especially since some of the companies only allow a certain number of installations and having changed laptops and desktops since purchasing the apps means that some of these programs will require the lengthy process of emailing and explaining the situation to the manufacturer.Given that I'm just trying to change the startup drive, how can I avoid these issues?
Mac Pro :: SSD XP Pro/Bootcamp On 2007 Macpro?
Sep 2, 2009Would like to run WinXP pro on an SSD drive on a 8 core 3Ghz Mac pro.
Tried initially placing this drive on one of the two xtra SATA ports and mounting it where the extra CD drive goes, then discovered that Windows won't recognize and would need drivers/hacking etc.
Have decided to put it in regular bay 4 and use bootcamp. Do I need to install any special drivers to maximize the ability of Windows to access this drive?

Jan 8, 2010One of the hdd's in my macpro runs constantly. The computer is constantly reading and writing to the hd. Not sure which one. CHecked processes and it shows that it is in fact doing so, even with no open applications. Not sure where to look or how to fix it. SLowing down my computer as well.

Airport Extreme N, current model, separate discrete g and n networks. G network is set up in WDS mode to extend Airport Express which is connected to a MP via Ethernet. My other Macs are 100% wireless.
The problem:
The network name of my MP is randomly changed. The original name was simply "MacPro." Then it started to change it's name to MacPro (1), MacPro (2), etc., thinking there was already a computer with the same name in use when it was the same computer all along.
The message I get looks like this:
I only have this problem on my MP, which again, is connected to an Airport Express via Ethernet. This problem doesn't exist on my machines that have an Airport card installed.
Anyone know what is causing this, and more importantly, how to stop it?
