Before I get flamed and etc... I have google and done some research about this issue but cannot find much about it.
I am not sure if this is a very common issue or topic but how do you adjust or modify your apple keyboard so that you can adjust screen brightness or volume? I am currently running Windows XP SP3, on a 2.4Ghz Unibody Macbook.
I just bought a new 15 inch retina display macbook pro a couple days ago, it came with yoemite installed, it was 10.10. I did a software update and now its 10.10.1 the problem is when I try to adjust the volume the following icons appear, sound source are the internal speakers and i don't have any earphones/external speakers connected.

MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Mid 2014), OS X Yosemite (10.10.1)
not sure if this matters, but what is the best way to adjust the volume since with computer speakers there are 2 sources to adjust volume -- on the Mac and on the speakers.
Currently I have my Mac volume up about 3/4, then I use the pod that comes with the Bose Companion 5 to adjust volume. I wonder if I should bring the Mac volume control all way to max, then use the pod to control the volume? Asking the audiophiles here, does it matter?
My iMac keyboard ( F keys) suddenly changed. The F11 and F12 keys no longer adjust volume. Some other keys F3 also changed.
What can I do?
I have found the Max volume in OS X to be lower than I would like - especially when viewing DVDs or online movies. Is there a way in which I can adjust the system maximum volume output? Connecting external speakers is sometimes an annoyance.
View 4 Replies View RelatedWhenever I adjust the volume on the speakers themselves, they shut off. I have to grab the subwoofer and unplug/plug in again to get any sound to come out. I do not understand what caused this to happen all of a sudden as these speakers worked great for 2 years.

I hook up my macbook up to an external monitor, and use a logitech dinovo keyboard for a mac. However, when I am in windows 7, the function keys do not adjust volume, brightness, and any other of the functions.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI watched a video and it was very loud so I went to System Preferences and turned the sound down. But now I can't mute by clicking the F9 button as I normally can. I can mute by going to System Preferences but I don't want to do this. Before I changed the volume in System Preferences, the keyboard keys worked fine for volume adjustment. I could make it quieter, louder or mute.I have tried with checking and not checking the option to display volume on the screen (in System Preferences).

I have a Mac Pro and not too long ago I swapped from a fat, heavy and filthy white Apple Keyboard to a new skinny silver one. I like it, and also love that the F7-9 Skip Back-Pause/Play-Skip Forward keys work for iTunes, even when another app is active (what's the word I'm looking for - in focus or whatever). But I use Optical output, so the volume keys (F10-12) don't do anything. I know that, when iTunes is the active app, I can command-+/- to change the volume, but I'd love to be able to map the F10-12 keys to do that - without having to have iTunes active (playing, but not the active window).
View 1 Replies View RelatedRecently, my newer (last year) iMac probably running 10.5 started speaking and wont shut up... there is no obvious way to turn it off. I usually figure problems out myself but there are no system preferences that effect it. I even changed the voice in preferences as a test and it is still the same guy reading everything clicked in all applications except when I am in system preferences so far. Usually when I run into a dead end like this there is some mystery key command that works... anyone know?I also noticed that some of the top line (f) keys are not doing what they are supposed to any longer as well... volume up opens the window for expose & spaces it looks like and does not control the volume monitor brightness controls are not working either... I went to the key and mouse preferences and set the key strokes to default and still the same.
View 6 Replies View Related I have my imac apart right now and replaced the internal HD as it was not working. I assume the problem is the new one is not formatted with OSX, so from the INSTALL CD I opened the disk utility and see only one drive called "MEDIA".? Or is that just part of the install dvd that looks like a HD? In the system it shows as not formatted, 0 bytes. When selected in Partition it says :
"This voume is the startup volume and cannot be erased. Size 7.1 GB The disk is not writable and cannot be partitioned"
So i guess thats not my new HD I am seeing? Other than that there is only the two OSX install CD icons.
I was wondering if anyone knows how to do this- it is a pita to adjust separate volume controls on everything. If I adjust the volume on the keyboard, the volume slider in itunes doe snot move. If I set the volume on itunes with a mouse, then come home and use the volume controls on my keyboard, I have to also manually adjust the slider in itunes. Anyway to link the two?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI recently decided to increase the volume of my bootcamp disk, which I had done in the past using a method which ultimately made the disk unrecognizable. This time around I used Winclone to create an image of my bootcamp disk. I was not sure exactly how Winclone worked and to be safe I decided to keep the Bootcamp disk I had, and I created a third partition of a larger volume to which I restored the bootcamp image. Everything worked fine obviously, and the image was restored correctly to the new larger volume. The dilemma is I had two bootcamp disks, so I erased the smaller volume because I no longer needed it. Currently I am trying to restore this empty space within the main disk to the Macintosh HD. Disk util looks like:
I know I can just create a backup of the macintosh HD, another image of the bootcamp disk, and format the disk and start over, but I am hoping there is an easier way to go about this; considering there has been a method engineered such that I can just drag that corner of the mac HD and voila I have instantly more storage after applying, it seems viable that there is something that can be done rather than formatting my disk, unless the necessity for that of course was overlooked.

So I'm trying to adjust the font in a PDF in Preview. I can't do it....is there a way? I also realized that I don't have Adobe....I have Adobe Digital for downloaded books but I guess that's all it's for.
I went online and all I can find is Adobe to buy.
So, finally my question....can I adjust the font in Preview? Zooming doesn't work for me...won't bore you with the reasons.
Or will I have to buy Adobe to get that function in PDF's?
If you can't tell I'm new to the Mac, coming over from Windows for 12 years!!
is it normal that I cant adjust the partition size from partitions on an external harddrive? one is for time machine, another is partitioned for mac, and a tird is NTFS. a want to enlarge the NTFS but seem to not be able to.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI recently bought an ACD which I hook up to my MacBook. I watch videos and movies on it late at night so instead of playing it through the speakers I prefer to play it through headphones so I don't keep everyone up.
This works great with iTunes. I plug them into my MacBook and off I go. For VLC, however, it STILL plays the audio through the speakers even though my headphones are plugged in.
How do I change it so the audio plays through the headphones when plugged in using VLC instead of the speakers. (Jeez, you'd think this would be basic functionality. >_>)
I have recently switched back to OSX with the new i7 MBP. I was wondering if there is any way to adjust the transparency of the menu bar? I like the transparency, I would just like to make it a tad more opaque. Is there a way?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI just switched from Windows to MAC 2 days ago - a brand new Macbook Pro. Needless to say I love the design of the machine. However I am having a slight problem with the fonts in OS X. I have always loved Windows XP fonts, and to a lesser extent Vista fonts. But my first impressions of OS X fonts have been terrible - They feel blurry, and very very soft, and very unlike crisp and sharp nature of XP fonts. My question is - is there a way of adjusting the fonts in OS X to make it look more like Windows? I almost feel blind looking at the fonts right now in OS X.

View 1 Replies View RelatedWhen I open my server window, there are no longer lines between the columns when the first desktop window opens as "list." I like to adjust these columns so that the "name" column is wider than the rest. I cannot do that the old way, by putting my curser on the line between the columns and widening it, as there are no lines between the columns. Strangely, the secondary windows do have lines, and can be adjusted in the old way.

I have been writing a book using Text Edit RTF for composition, and then exporting to PDF.
Before Yosemite, when I changed the width of the RTF writing window (say, from 65 letters per line to 75 letters per line), and then exported to PDF, the PDF reflected the change in letter count - IE the PDF now would show 75 letters per line, just like the RTF did.
Now, with Yosemite, the letter count stays the same in the exported PDF no matter how many letters per line are in the RTF before export.
This is a big problem for me because I was formatting the pages based on 70 letters-per-line and now I am getting PDFs that have 90+ letters per line. This means that all the headings that I had at the top of pages are showing up a few lines either way from the top. This messes up the look of the pages and makes it harder for the reader to spot topics they want to focus on.
Any way to get the letter count to stay the same in the PDF export as it is in the RTF/Text Edit page before export?
I have been trying to set-up an external LCD tv to my 13in MacBook Pro (mid-2010). I am connecting it through a mini-dvi to HDMI adapter.
