OS X V10.7 Lion :: Locate A File Found By Spotlight?

Jun 20, 2012

Yes, it finds things, BUT doesn't tell me WHERE on my computer I can find it.

Yes it opens a folder etc, BUY WHERE IS THAT FOLDER?  I've wasted more time looking for "the folder" it found than I care to mention.

OS X :: Cannot Locate Any File When Use Spotlight

Nov 9, 2008

Am I alone in having difficulties with this application? I cannot seem to locate any file when I use it. I type in part of the file name and rarely find what I want. If I try to use some part of a document's text, it is just the same. I am also finding difficulties in compressing files but have put this on another thread to avoid confusion I am using Tiger 10.5.5

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Spotlight To Search File-names Only Not Content?

Mar 23, 2012

Every time I do a spotlight search, intending only to get filenames (that's what it says in greyed out lettering in the search field), the Spotlight results show content as well with the result I have sometimes 1000s of items listed when I just want results containing filenames only. The search results are useless? How do I get Spotlight to search for filenames only? This is how Search used to be in Classic and for a while in OSX.

OS X V10.6 Snow Leopard :: Spotlight Can't Find TextEdit, Other Apps Found Ok

Apr 3, 2012

I have a very odd problem. Spotlight can't find TextEdit anymore, even if I type the name of the app fully in the field. The app is right where it should be in the Applications folder. It hasn't been excluded from search and I have done a reindex of Spotlight but the problem persists. Other apps come up exactly right.

OS X Yosemite :: Stacked Tibetan Letters Are Not Indexed / Cannot Be Found By Spotlight

Dec 12, 2014

I have seen Spotlight. it is working fine as long as I use Latin characters. Since I work with Tibetan, I was used to search for Tibetan words across and within files. When updating to Yosemite, both Spotlight and Preview stopped working properly with Tibetan. I have checked with various friends and all have the same issue: Yosemite indexing and search methods have changed from Maverick to Yosemite.

letters of the alphabet are still indexed (like ཀ་ཁ་ག་ང་), but when they are combined (like རྒ་), spotlight is the blue, giving no answer. Again, this used to work very well before. I have tried reindexing, following Apple's suggestion (URL....), but no success. It seems to be related to the indexing method itself. This is a big issue as we are used to search with Finder—a feature that is normally powerful in OSX..Spotlight works well with simple letters...But no result with a simple stack (ར and ག on top of each other):

ITunes :: Can't Locate The Original File

Jun 11, 2012

For some reason, most (not all) of the songs in my iTunes have an exclamation mark beside them that says "The song [song title] could not be used because the original file could not be found. Would you like to locate it?"

1) I dropped my computer a week or so ago. At the time it seemed fine with the exception of a small clicking sound from inside the computer.

2) Somone told me that the clicking sound might be because of a harddrive failure (or from a problem with the fan or optical drive). SO I started using Google Drive to backup some of my files, so far however it's only backuped up some of my music (maybe this is why only some of my music works)

3) Whenever I restart my computer now, my trash can becomes full of "Recovered Files". I think I might have deleted these the first few times I saw them.
