You know how you can calculate numbers in spotlight? It used to give me the answers but now it just says no results found. Oh and I enabled the calculator via the terminal command that I found through this and restarted but still doesn't do calculations

My Calculator in Spotlight doesn't work anymore... I think its batteries might be dead? When I type in things like "4+4" the search works fine, but it doesn't give any math results. I think it stopped around the time I installed 10.5.2 but it may have been broken before that, I can't remember exactly.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI finally go around to upgrading to 10.5 from 10.4. One thing that struck me was that I could no longer copy to the clipboard the result of the computation in the Dashboard's calculator widget. Something I could do under 10.4
I can paste into it. I can copy/paste/cut in the Stickies application. But I can't copy out of the Calculator.I opened up the .html and .js files for the widget and yes there is a handler for the copy event but its not getting invoked.
I'm searching for a file in Finder. When I select "Preferences", which is the directory I'm in, it finds the file but when I select "This Mac" it doesn't.

Smart-folders with 'file kind' parameters also remain empty. How do I fix this?I have tried to find an answer using the MR "search forums" function, but can't figure out how to correctly enter the query to give specific results, (for example, it just returns lots of threads with "results" rather than "no results".
View 2 Replies View Relatedyou can't sort your spotlight results by size unless you are in Icon view. How did they leave that out of List view? That is the only feature I'd hoped would be introduced in SL. It makes Spotlight searches as useless as they were in 10.5.

Since some time my search functions in Mail and Calendar aren't working properly. I can find my mails in the spotlight function from lion itself, but inside the mail program I get no results.
I tried several things:
1. Delete all my accounts on (is IMAP) and redownloaded them from the server.
2. Removed envelope files in Library folder mail
3. Add harddisk to privacy map on spotlight preferences and removed it (saw reindexing from harddisk)
4. Checked terminal with following command: 'sudo mdutil -s /Volumes/*', results:
/Volumes/Backups: Indexing disabled.
/Volumes/Server Data: Indexing enabled.
/: Indexing enabled.
(Backups is external network drive for backups).
(Server Data is external USB drive for data from clients)
(Server Systems is local drive, not shown in terminal ?!?)
Possible causes to problem: Reinstalled server software (and got it working properly this time), Renamed harddisk, installed back-up software named carbon copy cloner, setup VPN.

I have since discovered that Spotlight will show up search results using a Western Digital external drive but no results when I use my Seagate Back Up Plus external drive, which is the main drive I use. How to get Spotlight to get to search the Seagate drive?Â

I can type a search word into Spotlight. It will show results. I then open let's say an Appleworks text document from that search. Then I close that document and retry the same search: Now that same document will not show up in the search results for that exact word and it WILL NEVER show up again in search results. In other words after a file has been found and opened in search once , it will never appear in search results again for the same word.Â

I have searched this forum and the internet. My number pad on the right side of my keyboard works with everything EXCEPT the calculator. What did I do? cannot find anything anywhere to address just that. The numbers work fine everywhere else.
I did all the jumps to make sure on the system pref and the mouse off, holding my tongue just right and jumping five times...hitting the option key five times, the fn button and the clear button. the number work everywhere but on the calculator.

My calculator reports that answer as 0.666. (Positive NOT negative which is the correct answer). Is anyone else having the same problem? The calculator is giving out wrong answers! I have calculator version 4.2 running on 10.5.8.
I have a very odd problem. Spotlight can't find TextEdit anymore, even if I type the name of the app fully in the field. The app is right where it should be in the Applications folder. It hasn't been excluded from search and I have done a reindex of Spotlight but the problem persists. Other apps come up exactly right.

I have seen Spotlight. it is working fine as long as I use Latin characters. Since I work with Tibetan, I was used to search for Tibetan words across and within files. When updating to Yosemite, both Spotlight and Preview stopped working properly with Tibetan. I have checked with various friends and all have the same issue: Yosemite indexing and search methods have changed from Maverick to Yosemite.Â
letters of the alphabet are still indexed (like ཀ་à½à¼‹à½‚་ང་), but when they are combined (like རྒ་), spotlight is the blue, giving no answer. Again, this used to work very well before. I have tried reindexing, following Apple's suggestion (URL....), but no success. It seems to be related to the indexing method itself. This is a big issue as we are used to search with Finder—a feature that is normally powerful in OSX..Spotlight works well with simple letters...But no result with a simple stack (ར and ག on top of each other):

Since the installation of Lion the decimal point isn't working alright. Not in the calculator and not in Numbers.Â
1. For instance when I type 1500 in the Calculator the displays says 1,500. That's not correct, in Europe it should be 1.500
No preferences in the calculator to change it. It worked well with Snowleopard. In system preferences Decimals is changed to ",", thousands is "."Â
2. Numbers. When I type 123456789 in numeric field it's changed in 123.456.789
If I change the last four digits to 2233 and accidently forget to change the points the point stays on the same place. It will say 123.452233 The same if you add a digit 123.456.789 will be 123.456.7892233
This worked well in Snowleopard.Â
today i was on my macbook and realized that all of my alert sounds were not working. for example, if i got a new message in ichat or new email there would be no sound. Also, when i take a screenshot there is no sound, but there usually is one. My speakers are working because i am able to play music in itunes. Also, i system preferences, the search box does not show any results like it always does

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a new MacBook (Dec '08) and everything is working fine with one exception. When I type numbers into the calculator app they appear on the screen in slow motion with a nice long pause as each number typed is displayed. On our iMac the calculator app just flies along and has no problem keeping up no matter how fast I enter in numbers. Any ideas where to start on this one? Besides the standard software we have installed Microsoft Office and Handbrake.

View 4 Replies View RelatedMy MBP 17 (2.6 GHz, model 4.1) with  128 SSD isn't finding files which are definitely on my drive. Seem to only find files on the desktop, but not in sub folders for some reason. Any ideas why? Is it the SSD thats not indexing properly? How can I reset or fix this. Its becoming annoying

So I then tried command line indexing using sudo mdutil -E /, this just brings up the message in terminal no index.Â

I have deleted the index file in the root directory with out success. and tried several other ways of tring to re index my machine. As you can see from my screen shots. There is a file called Apps on the desktop. Yest when I search the desktop it cant find it.
