Why does "mackeeper" ad keep popping up on my screen?
View 4 Replies View RelatedMackeeper and oneclickads keep opening when I click on a page anywhere while browsing, even if it is not a hyperlink. How to stop them?
Although when I click on a link, my address bar shows "Pop-up blocked" but it still opens up a new window with Mackeeper or other ads. And then I have to click again on the link for the actual page to open up.
This happens on Safari as well as Chrome browsers.

I somehow got this MacKeeper program popping up on my screen every few seconds. I also think this program is interfering with other programs on my computer. Now my computer runs slower and start up takes a lot longer. How to take this MacKeeper off my computer. FYI, I deleted every know MacKeeper file on my hard drive, still to no avail.

I just noticed that Spotlight does not seem to index the content of .txt files. It will pick up search strings in the names of text files, but not in the contents. Is there any way to get Spotlight to index the content of .txt files?
View 3 Replies View RelatedSo, we have a bunch of computers that we need to install Mavericks on. After the second or third download, we decided to try to be smart and copy the installer to an external hard drive before installing. Now, when trying to install it on some of the remaining computers, it doesn't get very far and then comes up with an error that says something about required system files not being found. I will get the exact wording later when I go back to the lab. The installer already deleted itself from the other computer.
You must understand, downloading a >5GB file on a 25KBPS internet connection is agonizing, and these remaining computers need to get Mavericks on them soon.
You know how you can calculate numbers in spotlight? It used to give me the answers but now it just says no results found. Oh and I enabled the calculator via the terminal command that I found through this and restarted but still doesn't do calculations
View 1 Replies View RelatedYes, it finds things, BUT doesn't tell me WHERE on my computer I can find it.
Yes it opens a folder etc, BUY WHERE IS THAT FOLDER? I've wasted more time looking for "the folder" it found than I care to mention.

I have a very odd problem. Spotlight can't find TextEdit anymore, even if I type the name of the app fully in the field. The app is right where it should be in the Applications folder. It hasn't been excluded from search and I have done a reindex of Spotlight but the problem persists. Other apps come up exactly right.

I have seen Spotlight. it is working fine as long as I use Latin characters. Since I work with Tibetan, I was used to search for Tibetan words across and within files. When updating to Yosemite, both Spotlight and Preview stopped working properly with Tibetan. I have checked with various friends and all have the same issue: Yosemite indexing and search methods have changed from Maverick to Yosemite.
letters of the alphabet are still indexed (like ཀ་ཁ་ག་ང་), but when they are combined (like རྒ་), spotlight is the blue, giving no answer. Again, this used to work very well before. I have tried reindexing, following Apple's suggestion (URL....), but no success. It seems to be related to the indexing method itself. This is a big issue as we are used to search with Finder—a feature that is normally powerful in OSX..Spotlight works well with simple letters...But no result with a simple stack (ར and ག on top of each other):

How can I make spotlight show the directory location of a found file?
Previous Mac search engines would show the directory location of a found file. This feature seems to be missing from spotlight in Lion. Am I using it correctly?

I downloaded Mackeeper and it told me junk was slowing down my Mac but after it asked for $88 i quickly uninstalled it. Im worried it left a virus that slowed down my Macbook Pro. Even tho everyone says Macs don't need antivirus ware, is there something i can run to make sure there isn't anything harmful leftover? Also what is safe to use to clear out junk to improve how my Mac runs?

Everytime I download a .dmg file to my downloads folder, a bunch of other .dmg files--and multiple versions of the same file--open up and place themselves on the desktop. So, for example, I try to install Silverlight, and a dozen Microsoft Office dmg files open up and show up on my desktop, and another dozen or so Flip4Mac dmg files do the same thing.

I'm using a Mac, Mavericks 10.9.4, a few days ago I deleted my outlook account (of my previous job), and now I can not find any folder that may contain the files. now iCloud sync was done...
Other threads suggested the following paths such as " ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.Notes/Data/Library/Notes" but none of them seemed to work (the library folder is not to be found!) ...

I have a new USB 2/3 portable external drive, the kind without a spinning disk. I have been using Super Duper! to make a bootable backup, but it has been taking forever (3+ days) to copy my 435 GB of data.
When writing back, someone at Super Duper support asked if I had added my drive to Spotlight Privacy. I looked this up in the Apple knowledge base, but no definition turned up.
When I try to get to the widget download page it say's thaat the page cannot be found how i can fix this?

I have a number of Mac's (all running Mavericks), connecting to a shared folder on a Mac we use as a 'server' (it doesn't run server software though, just Snow Leopard client).
Does Mavericks Mac's use the 'spotlight index' of this shared, networked, Snow Leopard Mac, or when we search it, it's just searching the actual file structure?
I'm having issues with searching this networked Mac (some files not being found and then a on later search they appear), and I don't know whether a rebuilding of the spotlight index on the networked Mac is a relevant troubleshooting step.
For some reason, even though I have 'Applications' listed as number one for searching in Spotlight - they don't show up at all.
Any documents or mails about the app get lists but not the applications.
Interesting that even using the Alfred add-on, I can type the app name in and again don't get it in the search at all.
I tried rebuilding using disk utility as well as Onyx - to no success.

For the past few weeks, my macbook pro battery drains very fast. It always shows that Spotlight using 99% to 100% of energy. With no app running i get only approx 2 hrs battery life. Battery status is pretty ok with current max capacity as 4817 mAh and system says battery health is normal. I tried unchecking all the items which Spotlight searches from the System preferences and I have also reset SMC & PRAM but of no use.

This Macbook Pro has been running Mavericks from the beginning and has gone through at least one other upgrade. After upgrading to 10.9.4 today, this popup keeps coming, sometimes with an application/account name sometimes not. Of course "login" is fine in keychain and many applications/Web sites using "login" keychain continue to work, including those implicated in popups. I tried "Verify/Repair" in Keychain First Aid. No error found. I tried to repair file system in Disk Utility. Nothing changes.
View 6 Replies View RelatedSpotlight still wanting to reindex their mac after every restart/reboot - the finder becomes completely bogged down until spotlight finishes reindexing my mid 2011 iMac hard drive. I have tried a clean install from scratch, clearing the caches, deleting the spotlight files and letting it reindex from scratch, nothing seems to get rid of the initial lag once the desktop first appears - it happens after every restart or initial boot up….as soon as the icons for the hard drive appears, it immediately goes into "reindexing iMac hard drive" and takes a few minutes to complete, during that time, the computer is totally unresponsive to anything until it finishes. (Computer configuration = Mid 2011 iMac with 16GB ram and 500GB H.D. that has over 200GB of free space - Time machine backs up to a 2TB Lacie D2 Drive via firewire 800).
