Am I alone in having difficulties with this application? I cannot seem to locate any file when I use it. I type in part of the file name and rarely find what I want. If I try to use some part of a document's text, it is just the same. I am also finding difficulties in compressing files but have put this on another thread to avoid confusion I am using Tiger 10.5.5

Yes, it finds things, BUT doesn't tell me WHERE on my computer I can find it.
Yes it opens a folder etc, BUY WHERE IS THAT FOLDER? I've wasted more time looking for "the folder" it found than I care to mention.Â

For some reason, most (not all) of the songs in my iTunes have an exclamation mark beside them that says "The song [song title] could not be used because the original file could not be found. Would you like to locate it?"
1) I dropped my computer a week or so ago. At the time it seemed fine with the exception of a small clicking sound from inside the computer.
2) Somone told me that the clicking sound might be because of a harddrive failure (or from a problem with the fan or optical drive). SO I started using Google Drive to backup some of my files, so far however it's only backuped up some of my music (maybe this is why only some of my music works)
3) Whenever I restart my computer now, my trash can becomes full of "Recovered Files". I think I might have deleted these the first few times I saw them.Â
I have iPhoto from that iLive '11 series. It fails to open. I can't find the folders for originals and modified files on my hard drive. I am so scared that I've lost them! TimeMachine isn't helping restore the application. I have the Lion OS.

I have been successfully been able to make several videos using Final Cut Pro X, about 12 already, and for some reason, it just doesn't want to anymore!!Â
I share the file via Apple Devices 1080p and i get that l title notification that says "Share successful" but the file doesn't show up at all! Normally, they pop up at the Home Videos folder deep inside the iTunes folder thingo. They're not anywhere on this mac. Â

A few years ago in high school trip to europe i made an imovie hd project. i am on a new mbp and i have a backup of my old mbp and when i transfer the file macintosh hd->user->movies->europe movie project it doesnt seem to bring the video with it (i cant even locate it!) i opened with imovie and the old imovie hd and the same thing, no video file! any ideas as to where the video files are located? im freakin out here lol

I am pretty new with Mac and I am trying out my new macbook pro. I'm trying to get to know it. And a while ago I was trying the Spotlight feature. I have a file under User/Library/Preferences/ that is called [URL] I just thought I'd try to search for it on Spotlight if it can find it. I typed myname123 on spotlight but no results were found. Why? Are there any specific strings that should be entered if the search string is between a filename?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a file, myfile.csv, that contains the string qqabc. A (Lion) Spotlight search for the string qqabc fails to return myfile.csv in the results. Turning all checkboxes on in Spotlight preferences didn't help. Reindexing the internal hard drive didn't help either. When I changed the extension to .zzz, the search worked. How can I make Spotlight return myfile.csv in the results? EasyFind works, by the way, but I have a reason for wanting Spotlight to work.

is there a way to open file location folder through Spotlight search function? I mean when you do a search on spotlight and it finds the file you are looking for, if you hit ENTER it will automatically open the file (in iTunes if it is a mp3, in InDesidn if it a .indl an so on) what if you want to access the folder the file is on?
I am makng this question because I have my computer very organized and my stuff are into folders>in a folder> in a folder> in another folder>in a folder.
and it can be a pain to go through all those folders till I find what I want
For some reason when I use finder, I see all related files, but it doesn't have a "pop up" where the path to that file is. I have gone into spotlight preferences and can't seem to find a button or setting that allows me to see paths.Â

how to find the path to a file in a Spotlight search result. In Snow Leopard I would get the path to a file or folder by just holding the mouse over the search result in Spotlight. I don't see that in Lion.

the reason i am here in this one to one conversation its because my ipod got stolen on a Wedsnday; to be exact February 15th. I was in my third period class, which was gym and when i went to go look for my ipod since we had free choice of exercise, i didnt find my ipod but my headphones were in my bag, and my phone was there to. By a suprise where i left my ipod, they took out everything that was covering the ipod and just left my pink headphones. I'm in a program (Safari, Word, iDesign, etc., I click open file > desktop (or any other folder), and nothing appears.just the spinning wheel (that won't stop).I had my hard drive replaced in March after my system started running slow one day, then froze. I did a hard reboot, and it wouldn't come back on.A week after I got it back, I started getting the "gray screen of deaf" with the spinning wheel. So I took it back in and they replaced the operating system (10.7.3).It worked fine for a few days, but for the last couple of weeks, I've had to do a hard reboot just about everyday due to my system freezing up.I've updated to OS X 10.7.4, which wasn't easy. Cllicking "update OS" didn't work...it always ended up telling me unable to update this operating sytem. I had to download the OS from this Apple site. It took about 20 hours to update (?!?) I can't afford to be without my system for too many days while in the shop at this time. Do I need to start looking into a new system.

My iMac can locate it. And apparently be connected to it. But it's a mystery to me where in my home it is. Some time ago, I decided I wanted my numeric keys back and switched to a wired keyboard. It says under network: Built in Ethernet is currently active. Built in ethernet has a self assigned IP address and may not be able to connect to the internet.
I hit the IPv6 and/or DHCP and it locates a IP just not a router number. Is this what is stopping it from connecting? Please help as I have an AP test I would like to study for....
so first off, sorry for the potential repost. I couldn't find the answer on the forum so I am starting a new thread.
Let's say I have a 50gb music library. I want to put all 50gb on the external, and keep about 30gb on my iBook.
That part was easy enough, however I am running into problems keeping everything in my library located.
Everytime I disconnect and then reconnect the external, anything that's not on my iBook can't be located.
I want to make it so that when the external is not connected, my entire library (EXT and INT) is shown[obviously, I won't be able to play anything that resides on the EXT], and when I connect the EXT, I want it to locate the files that are external only.
I also want iTunes to keep my folders organized, there, that's the kicker.
