Intel Mac :: Start Up Disc Is Full But Can't Seem To Locate The File To Delete
Apr 27, 2012
start up disc is full on my imac but cant seem to locate the file to delete, it show that i have 236gb usage and 14gb free space. and i have deleted all my movies, pics and music so i dont understand where the 236 gb usage is from.
Info:
iMac, Mac OS X (10.7.3), i have delete my movies, pics, music
The startup disk on my black plastic MacBook is getting full. I know there is plenty of junk to delete but I don't know how to get an overview of where the junk is so that I can delete chunks of unneccessary data instead of chipping away at my photo library, etc.
Im getting an error message that states Mac OSX start disc has no more available space for application memory. Also color wheel continues to spin with no progress. Computer gets hung up. Computer is only months old.
I have a mac book pro...one of the older models...around 5 or 6 years old..the silver one with the silver around the screen part. Running Mac OS X 10.6.8,
2.33 GHz, 2GB ram.
Lately my computer has been rediculously slow with everything, but aside from that my issue is with my start up disc. I would have over 1.5 GB of space left, open up a photoshop file...make some alterations and save...and all of a sudden I have NO SPACE left. These alterations created the photoshop file to be like 50mb more. Its a 200mb file. So how can I go from 1.5 gigs to saving a 200mb .psd file and all of a sudden 0 hd space?
Sometimes I couldnt even save the .psd because when I opened it all of a sudden I have half a gig now. And even if I had half a gig why wouldnt I be able to save? I go to save and sometimes it says "your start up disc us full" - Is this different than my harddrive?
Is photoshop using some sort of weird caching thing?
My G-4 startup disc is full and now the computer won't start up. I am told to put a startup disc in the drive and restart from it, but I cannot get the disc drive to open. I have tried everything, including copying over to external hard drive. I read that if you hold the mouse button down, the disc drive will open, but this hasn't worked.
I keep getting a message to say my start disc is full and I cant understand why. I dont have a lot of things saved on it and it affecting the operating of my laptop ie, freezing/wont download new mail.
I've dumped all unneccesary applications, all documents, all movies and music, no documents and I keep getting a message that my start up disc is full. I also minused my self off and deleted my account creating a new one and that sitll did not help.
recently attached an external hard drive with data from an early 2008 Macbook to my early 2009 Macbook running Maverick 10.9.Now my computer will only boot up once in every 10 tries and I can't access any files or my finder.I do get a message saying my start up disc is full and I must delete some files. How can I do this if I mostly just get a grey screen and when it does boot up I can't get my finder to come up
I have a disc full of photo's stuck in the disc drive on my imac. When I try to eject it, I get a spinning rainbow circle and have to do a hard shut down. It sounds like it is trying to eject it, but then gets hung up.
I have an old MacBook, model 1, 1. It is running OSX 10.5.8. I am getting messages telling me my start up disc is almost full and I have to delete files. I am not sure what this means, or what I can do to avoid deleting files. Is deleting old mesages in Mail be enough? Do I have to delete applications? Maybe I need to bite the bullet and buy a new computer?
I make an error... I didnot delete files when I need to. Now, with a full start up disc, I cannot access my files. When I goto log on, I get my mail, and can acess recent items, but cannot delete files. How do I fix this? I have no dock, no icon, .....
I just got a message saying that my Startup Disk is full and that I should delete some files. How can I solve this? which type of files? is there a way to clean up enough to make my computer run fast again... latelly it is to slow specially when waking up...
My iMac does not start up as usual. I now get a ' start up disk is full. You need to make space available on your start up disk by deleting files' message. I am able to key my log on password however I just get the purple galaxy screen with no desktop.
If I try to use the keyboard I get a tone when pressing the keys.
Has worked perfectly well up until I got this dusk full message.
I have iPhoto from that iLive '11 series. It fails to open. I can't find the folders for originals and modified files on my hard drive. I am so scared that I've lost them! TimeMachine isn't helping restore the application. I have the Lion OS.
Info: iMac (21.5-inch Mid 2011), Mac OS X (10.7.3)
Using OS10.7, my hard disc is full. When I go to "About this Mac - Storage", it shows that it is entirely filled with "Other". Does anyone know what "Other" is so that I can delete some of it?
Well 10.5.6 has been so much fun and full of surprises - like a box of chocolates Gump would say. For some reason, the sleep function settings won't reset. I had my iMac set to sleep the HD after about an hour. I changed the setting to never, but it still wants to sleep. Never had any trouble like this before the update. My install is almost virgin as I had to reinstall because of the update. I don't have any add-ons running or anything like that. Can I delete the .plist file for these settings to start over?
Bought this iMac not quite a year ago. I had very few files - some pictures and music mostly. Tried to update ANYTHING and kept receiving "start up disk is almost full". Burned pictures to disc and deleted them. Also, accidentally deleted all music as well. I am still receiving the error message. I called Apple and removing media files was their suggestion as well. I have no idea what to do next - I have no "tech savvy" Processor 2.7 GHz Intel Core i5Memory 8 GB 1333 MHz DDR3Software Mac OS X Lion 10.7.2 (11C74)
