OS X V10.7 Lion :: Get Open Application Windows To "snap" Into Place Like Windows 7?

Is there a way to get my open application windows to "snap" into place like Windows 7? This is the only feature I miss from my PC...

Does anyone know of any 3rd party add-ons for OS X that allow you to 'snap' or align any on-screen window to the other windows? I'm looking for a system-wide add-on so I can use this feature across all my apps, collectively aligning their window edges together to try and keep things tidy.

Whenever I launch Pages, the application opens pretty much all the documents I've worked on. I take care to close all the windows, hoping that they won't launch again next time I start the application, yet they do. I can't find a setting in the preferences or Settings to disable this behavior.Â

I was wondering if there were any apps/hacks out there that *I can't believe I'm saying this* give similar "window Snapping" functionality that Windows 7 offers?

I've been looking around for an app that makes all windows in Mac Os X snap to the edge of others (and to the edge of the screen).

One is called "SizeUp" and I've been using it for a few days now. Very useful program, especially if you find yourself wanting to quickly compare two webpages side by side. It uses keyboard shortcuts although you can also select it from the menu bar.

I really thought this was the only feature windows 7 had over OSX. No more

I confess, Windows 7 is a good OS, even though 90% of its "features" you could find hidden in either WinXP or Vista, but the usability feature for me that fits in this 10% "new features" category was definitely Aero Snap and up to date there was no 1:1 Mac solution. Now I was extatic to download that handy Cinch tool fro And yes, in my opinion it looks even more elegant and feels more natural on Mac OS X than Windows but that is my highly biased opinion.

Since installing Lion (currently 10.7.4) on my home iMac, I've been unable to have windows for more than one application appear at one time. For the most part, applications run just fine. But say I have Adobe Illustrator open and want to drag an image from a folder in Finder into my document. The second I select Finder from the Dock, Illustrator disappears. Click back on Illustrator from the dock, and it reappears, but now my Finder window has gone AWOL. Seems like it's all still there, just becomes invisible.
At no time will it display more than one application. Two windows of the same application? But any time I switch between apps, it shows only the most recently selected app, regardless of what's actually running on my machine. Makes dragging and dropping from one app to another near impossible. Quitting and restarting does nothing. Even a fresh install of Lion did nothing. I find it hard to imagine this could be a hardware issue though.
My iMac works perfectly otherwise. As for my current settings, I have no desktops/spaces setup (aside from the one), and have turned off all associated features for Mission Control in the System Preferences - more out of an attempt to simplify in the hopes that it would work than out of any dislike for the features. The iMac itself is a 20-inch, early 2008 with 2.4 GHz Core 2 Duo and 4 GB SDRAM.

Is there any way to set up Lion so that application windows are individually selectable, and do not trigger the display of all windows for a given application? As a default, when I am working with two word documents open and I select a Firefox window, then return to my primary Word document, the secondary word document appears and covers the Firefox window that I'm working with. I'd like to have the secondary word document stay behind the Firefox window until I need it. I know I could minimize the secondary word doc, but I have a tendancy to forget that minimized windows are open.Â
I'm working on combining a lot of information from different sources to make a class outline, and I'd love to be able to individually select an application window without triggering the other windows that are open for that application. Is there a way to make this happen in Lion or with a third-party program?Â

I'm thinking of buying my first Mac ever pretty soon. I can get an educational discount and also get a free iPod Touch if I buy before September 15. I understand that Snow Leopard will be available "in September" so I will have to receive it separately if I buy my Mac between now and then. So, I've never owned Macs before, so I'm wondering how the upgrade from Leopard -> Snow Leopard will happen. Is it like Windows where you can choose to do a "clean installation" or an "in-place" upgrade? Coming from the Windows world, I tend to lean more towards clean installations.

So I am trying to open up my bootcamp partition (running windows 7) in VMWare and I get this error message: Cannot open the disk '/Users/brandonquirarte/Library/Application Support/VMware Fusion/Virtual Machines/Boot Camp/%2Fdev%2Fdisk0/Boot Camp partition.vmwarevm/Boot Camp partition.vmdk' or one of the snapshot disks it depends on. It was working just fine before the upgrade to Snow Leopard but I am not sure if that has anything to do with it. I had to reinstall Windows 7 after I tried installing the Bootcamp 3.0 drivers so that may be more of the issue. I didn't test to see if would work still when I upgraded to Snow Leopard.

I usually have four apps running during the day. I keep them in their separate windows.
Is there a way to open the app in it's own window? Everytime I start an an, it opens in window number 1 and then I have to move it to it's own window. I know this isn't a huge chore, but it does take time and if you do it every morning, it gets tiresome.

After upgrading to Lion I see a check box at shutdown to refrain from opening web pages currently open in Safari. I did that, unchecked it, but they still open. How odd they would make this a opt out scenario - is there a way to make this permanent? I liked the old way where you could go into History and do it during a new session.

I've been using my macbook for a few months right now, and primarily use it for recording me and my band-mates on Logic express, but now, I've not been able to use my iSight on my mac. I don't know what's wrong with it, because I've always been able to take photos with friends in Photo Booth and take movies with it as well. Up till now that is. A few days ago I tried to open up Photo Booth and snap a picture, but all I got was a blank screen. The program would count down, but the screen would just be white instead of showing what it would take. The little green light next to it would go on as well, but it wouldn't take a picture, and nothing is blocking the screen either.

I have a early 2009 17" uMBP upgraded to Snow Leopard. Prior to closing the lid to activate sleep mode, is it advisable to leave an application and/or web page in place?
I just recently, in the past week, have been doing this . . . And I was wondering if there might be any adverse effects with this practice.

Please educate me if there is an elegant way of accomplishing this simple and common task from a long-time Windows user. Let's say I have Thunderbird or Mail open, and I start writing a new message on a new message window. Then momentarily I click behind it to the inbox to check something; say, to find another address I need. Now, the New Message window has become buried under the Inbox window, and since it's smaller than the Inbox, I can't click on it to bring it back forward (unless, of course, some edge of it is sticking out from under the inbox). If I was on windows, I'd just click on the New Message window's tile. The dock doesn't distinguish between different windows of the same program.
Using Expose is cool, except it takes me several keystrokes or a keystroke plus the mouse to find what I'm looking for (plus F9 isn't as easy to reach as ALT-Tab, IMO), especially if I've got a lot of windows open. I like in Windows being able to visually scan all of the windows that exist without having to move the mouse, and then only need one mouse click to get to that window. Perhaps there's a way to flip through the different windows in your current app? That would make things simpler and more elegant, but I certainly don't know how to do that. I'd love to hear your tips to make this transition go smoother! Alright, F10 does that, I just remembered! Also regarding Expose, if I've got several textedit windows open and they're all zoomed out (but with different file names), there's no way for me to identify them without first hovering over them to see their file names.
