OS X V10.7 Lion :: Safari Windows Re-open On Launch?
Mar 22, 2012
After upgrading to Lion I see a check box at shutdown to refrain from opening web pages currently open in Safari. I did that, unchecked it, but they still open. How odd they would make this a opt out scenario - is there a way to make this permanent? I liked the old way where you could go into History and do it during a new session.
Whenever I launch Pages, the application opens pretty much all the documents I've worked on. I take care to close all the windows, hoping that they won't launch again next time I start the application, yet they do. I can't find a setting in the preferences or Settings to disable this behavior.
Info: MacBook (13-inch Late 2009), Mac OS X (10.7.4)
I tried to launch Safari (version 4.1.2) but it wouldn't open. It just bounced once from the dock and that was it. Today it bounces twice and nothing.I started reading some stuff in mac forums and read what others with a similar problem were saying. They said ichat and itunes were not working either. I checked mine and lo and behold mine weren't working either. How are these applications all connected? I tried to check for software updates for Safari from my computer but when I tried that, the software update icon appeared in my dock, bounced once, shrunk and disappeared. It wouldn't open either.I am using firefox currently. I had not used it for a long time, so when I opened it last night, it asked me to update flash. I did. But I don't see how that could be the problem since I updated flash AFTER realizing safari wouldn't open.
I have spent most of the day today scouring these pages for a solution. I have followed myriad instructions written by B Noir and others. To no avail. Whenever I click the Safari icon, the hourglass appears for a few seconds, but the browser won't launch.
Since upgrading to Lion, it seems every time I open an application, the previous file I had been working on in the application opens, in additionto one I've double-clicked on to edit.
I seem to have tripped over this quarantine bug in Lion. Newly downloaded apps simply sit in the Dock with the sphere pulsing, and disappear when clicked on.

Is there anything new known about this situation? Is there any other workaround or trick to try? This is stopping me from being able to install any new software properly. I'm hoping I don't have to wipe the system and start over, but I'm not seeing much choice. Assuming I don't trip the bug during the rebuild process and end up back in the same spot....
Safari 5.1.4 update downloaded into Lion 10.7.3 on a Mac mini earlier today. Won't launch. Creates a report saying it is 5.1.2."Reopen" just repeats a report (many sent from different accounts!)As far as I can see other apps still work including Adobe CS4 and Firefox.Cannot enter safe mode to try it there by using shift on reboot as suggested for Lion. Not sure what extensions I have for Safari but very few. Definitely Ghostery (wouldn't be without it).Have looked at "get info" and it is running (or, to be more precise, not running) in 64 bit mode. Tried 32 but that didn't work either so have restored to 64. I have run out of ideas, short of abandoning Safari and waiting for the next update.
Just recently I took my 13" MacBook Pro (Late 2010 Model) to my local Apple Store. When I brought it there they fixed my problem, but in the mean time they had to completely delete and uninstall Safari and Google Chrome off of my laptop. Before the apple store, my Safari would always open pop-ups and links in a new tab, now they open up in a new window. how to change it so they open in new tabs? The reason I need this changed is I might have unecessary websites open, and they would just be taking up space.
I like to command click for a new window and recently Safari started opening new pages that I command click UNDER the front main window. The preferences say it should be on top but it does not open that way. how to get this opening correctly again?
I have tried all the suggested fixes except reinstall the OS to no avail. Safari works fine in other users on this computer so I assume the problem is something in the user library.
My Macintosh address book does not open. After I click it on the task bar it bounces once and that's it. I've also deleted the icon from the task bar and tried launching it from the applications folder, but I get the same response.
When I open up Mail and click on the address book while composing a message, I can see the entries.
For example, (when Safari or Terminal application is already launched) pressing the dock icon or launching from quicksilver brings the window to the front (or moves to a specific space where the window is in).
Is it possible to modify this behavior to opening a new window? By clicking the dock icon (or some sequence of keyboard shortcuts) I want to open a new window of safari or terminal. Furthermore, it would be great if this can be done to the current 'space'.
My unibody macbook that is about 3 months old is acting really weird. When i open 3 or more windows of safari and itunes it starts to lock up and act slugishly. When i open activity monitor it says is still has about 800mb of memory open. It is the base model with all stock components.
In the past couple of days I cannot open any windows in Safari. When I start the program up, I get the toolbar only. Nothing I do lets me open up a window. I even have to force quit the application sometimes to get it to close. I have reinstalled the program, removed the preferences, run Disk Warrior and Disk Utility with no luck. As a result, I have to use Firefox to do my browsing.Has anyone had this problem? Is there a fix for this?
I started up my computer and don't see any of the icons or HD icon on my desktop, but can see the image and the toolbar pops up on the bottom. I can run safari, itunes, iphoto, etc. but when I click on MS word or PP I get this message: Application Launch Failure The application "Word" could not be launched because of a shared library error: "D<Microsoft Word><Apple;Carbon;Multimedia><CFMPriv_DVComponentGlue><>" I can upload docs as attachments, but can't open any microsoft stuff. What should I do? My roommate has a new version of MS office I could install, should I do this?
I seem to have a problem with safari, it mainly hangs on launch where I usually have to wait 5 minutes for it to recover, this is the log i get:
Mar 29 13:53:33 Lynnerup Safari[202]: QUERY-HANG-DETECTED - time: 3.182763, DB size: 181256192 Mar 29 13:53:35 Lynnerup Safari[202]: INSERT-HANG-DETECTED: Tx time:3.319087, # of Inserts: 1, # of bytes written: 24392, Did shrink: NO Mar 29 13:53:54 Lynnerup Safari[202]: INSERT-HANG-DETECTED: Tx time:12.832515, # of Inserts: 24, # of bytes written: 747312, Did shrink: NO Mar 29 13:54:19 Lynnerup login[214]: USER_PROCESS: 214 ttys000 Mar 29 13:57:43 Lynnerup com.apple.WebKit.PluginAgent[249]: Debugger() was called! the debugger was called entering here. I also seem to get hangs whenever i'm maxing my system, safari typing what I wrote in say google up to 5 minutes after I wrote it...
I downloaded the beta of Safari 5.2 because I was curious, and then I uninstalled it with Appzapper. I reinstalled the current version of Safari (5.1.7) without troubles, but now when I launch it, Safari crashes and it says that Safari quitted unexpectedly. Here is the entire crash log.
I installed OSX Lion on my Mac Intel but now Safari wont open - instant shut down. What do I do?, I installed OSX Lion but now Safari wont open - instant shut down. What do I do?
