I have a early 2009 17" uMBP upgraded to Snow Leopard. Prior to closing the lid to activate sleep mode, is it advisable to leave an application and/or web page in place?
I just recently, in the past week, have been doing this . . . And I was wondering if there might be any adverse effects with this practice.

Does anyone know, if there's a free application available (for MAC) with which to build up an archive of DVDs and CDs. I just need a tool, that can store some information about the data contained on the data carriers, something like a digital library. I could only find something like that for windows. But I'm sure there has to be something like that for MAC (for free!).

Been searching online for an easy way to copy DVDs to the hard drive so they can be watched without the external DVD player needed for the MacBook Air.I've converted the DVD to a .DMG file using the disk utility tool and then mounted it...but cant figure out how to make it actually execute inside of QuickTime...

View 2 Replies View RelatedI'd like to rip my DVDs each to a single file I can import into iTunes so I can play them on my various Apple devices and not lose quality, extras, menus or surround sound (5.1 or 7.1) done with an Apple program. I see many ripping applications online that are Windows based. I need Mac. I want to have the same features and quality available on the one file as I would if I were playing the DVD on my DVD player.I have an AppleTV2 (plugged into a 55" LED TV), iPad1 and iPhone4.I'm also on Lion 10.7.4 now.Is there such a Mac application that can do all this?

I've a 27 inch, mid-2010 iMac w/ 2.85 GHz i5 processor, 12 GB of RAM and running OSX 10.9.4 (Mavericks). iTunes is 11.3.1 (2) has stopped ripping cds to iTunes. Just ejects them. I have used this option quite a bit.I had my hard drive replaced by Apple free of charge about 2 years ago.

I have the white MacBook, I've had it about 2 years now. I was wondering if maybe I have too much on my hard drive and that is why my most commonly used applications have suddenly begun to close mid-use. I've never had this problem before and have recently uploaded quite a bit of music/photos to my MacBook, so it seems to be the only logical explanation for it? Or, I don't think I could've gotten a virus because 1. I'm very cautious about the files I download and 2. I don't think Macs are susceptible to most viruses. I could be wrong, though.
Nonetheless, does anyone know of any solution for this?
Since upgrading to iTunes 10.5.2, I have problems using airplay to connect to my hi-fi speakers. When I enable them in iTunes I get the message "Do you want the application "iTunes.app" to accept incoming network connections? " immediately followed the message."An error occurred while connecting to the AirPlay device "hi-fi". The network connection failed".If I choose "allow" for the first message, deselect "hi-fi" in iTunes and select it again, it works! This is becoming more annoying having to do this every single time.I am using an Airport Xpress with airport utility 5.5.3 and Mac OS 10.6.8

I use the black macbook and I have several folders and files on my desktop. However, lately after I shutdown my macbook and start it again, all the folders and files on my desktop move and scatter. I want to keep them in the same order that I originally arranged. How do I keep them in the same place? Is it normal for them to move around after shutdown? I don't want to sort them out by name or date modified or anything like that. I just want to keep them in the same order that I put them.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI just lost an entire semesters worth of work and countless other files because my five month old computer's hard drive failed? Apple replaced the drive but told me it could cost an additional $500-$1000 to recover the data off my old drive? Granted, it was my fault for not having a backup in place since August, but I live in cramped quarters, travel a lot, and never have the space to lug around my external HDs, and I thought I could rely on having a computer's HD work for more than 5 months before crapping out. I'm furious right now. I've owned Macs since the 1990s, and I've never had an issue like this before today. I guess I can spend the $1000 now to get my work back.
View 24 Replies View RelatedMy 13" 4 year old macbook's headphone jack hasn't been working for the last week. I had been using a messed up cord (the adaptor part was bent) to plug it into speakers, and eventually it misplaced or bent something in the headphone jack. This is the important part, the headphone jack still works. If i put in headphones and push the headphone connector thing (sorry I don't know the word) forward (towards the screen) it recognizes and works. This leads me to believe the headphone jack has been knocked out of place or there is something bent in there. Is there any potential fix because I have a lot of plane flights coming up and don't want to be stuck with just the music on my iPod.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI just got my brand new, 13" MacBook Pro on Friday night. Friday night and Saturday morning it was plugged in to get it all setup and all my files transferred. In the afternoon, I took it off the charger and it said i was going to get 5 hours of life, I researched a bit and found out how to calibrate the battery, which I did last night and plugged it in again this morning.
I'm now in a coffee shop, first time with my MacBook on battery since calibrating it, and the time its supposed to last, is jumping wildly. Right now its says 8:55, but 2 seconds ago it was 6:08, and in the last 5 minutes its jumped as low at 5:32, and as high as 9:13, oh I lied, it just jumped to 9:49 as I was typing this.I used coconut battery and it says 2 cycles and 5850 mAh, 4 weeks old.
Why is it jumping so much? I did the calibration according to Apple's guide. Waited for it to go to go into reserve and then sleep, and then left it for 8 hours while I slept, and when it restarted this morning it said "1%" battery. I don't know what the issue is. My old white macbook jumped but usually a matter of 5-10 minutes, not hours.
I have problems with my CD/DVD drive. Any cd i place in ejects after 5 to 10 seconds.

Is this the correct place to look?
I have an old Sawtooth, 500MHz G4, OS 10.3.9, 1 gig of SDRAM, external LaCie FireWire and Maxtor USB drives, and the (old, original with OS 10.3.9) iTunes application vanished. The alias in the dock had a question mark on it, and did nothing when I clicked on it. Searching through the CPU's hard drive application folder, there was no iTtunes. The songs are still there in the iTunes library, but will open and play only in QuickTime, and some of the songs I have had for a long time show an "unauthorized" error. What is going on? Can I reload ONLY iTunes from the system disks? Can I download a compatible version from Apple? This is a secondary machine, but I still use it a lot, and use the iTunes application for business and pleasure.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI've successfully moved from a Mac Pro (2,1) to a Mac Mini (6,2), running OS 10.9.5 and iTunes 12.0.1.26. There were several glitches during the move, but I finally associated my iTunes folder, now on an external HD, with the application using the option key during launch method. Everything works, iPhones, iPads, iPods all sync properly, all the playlists are there and play all songs, the App Store and iTunes Store function normally using my single Apple ID.
Just one problem.
When I try to play content from within the iTunes Music [Media] folder, either by double-clicking on a track or by control-click "Open With", I get an error message "The Application Can't be Found".
My iTunes Library goes back to iTunes 3 and contains over 350 GB media. This new behavior is worrying, because I don't understand why moving the iTunes Folder should have caused this.

Is there an application out there that will put the name of current song I'm playing in my menu bar, so I can see what the song is without having to stop what I'm doing bring the iTunes window up and then bring the window I was working in back the the front? It's such a hassle doing that, and some application that does as I described would be great.
