Software :: Windows 7 Snap Available Features?
Nov 6, 2008I was wondering if there were any apps/hacks out there that *I can't believe I'm saying this* give similar "window Snapping" functionality that Windows 7 offers?

View 26 RepliesI've been looking around for an app that makes all windows in Mac Os X snap to the edge of others (and to the edge of the screen).
View 5 Replies View RelatedOne is called "SizeUp" and I've been using it for a few days now. Very useful program, especially if you find yourself wanting to quickly compare two webpages side by side. It uses keyboard shortcuts although you can also select it from the menu bar.

I really thought this was the only feature windows 7 had over OSX. No more
Does anyone know of any 3rd party add-ons for OS X that allow you to 'snap' or align any on-screen window to the other windows? I'm looking for a system-wide add-on so I can use this feature across all my apps, collectively aligning their window edges together to try and keep things tidy.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI confess, Windows 7 is a good OS, even though 90% of its "features" you could find hidden in either WinXP or Vista, but the usability feature for me that fits in this 10% "new features" category was definitely Aero Snap and up to date there was no 1:1 Mac solution. Now I was extatic to download that handy Cinch tool fro And yes, in my opinion it looks even more elegant and feels more natural on Mac OS X than Windows but that is my highly biased opinion.

I'm trying to see if Win7 has a feature that all the current open websites show up like thumbnails like in Expose. The Win7 features "Shake, Peek, Snap" don't sound exactly what I am looking for. And any chance they have a general ZOOM feature like in Leopard when you hold CTRL and the mouse wheel also?

View 2 Replies View RelatedJust out of the box last night. Starts up and the hard drive 500GB is making tons of noise. Sounds like the arm is smacking back and forth, grinding sounds, and electronic like sounds. After twenty minutes or so it died down. I rebooted. The entire time Spotlight was indexing it was loud and noisy. Once completed it was nice and quiet again. I moved some things around and it got noisy, at that point I just went to bed. This afternoon I ran all the updates, it went back to noisy all over again. In my opinion the HDD is most likely no good, or will be no good sometime soon. I've got an Apple Store about 10 minutes away, is this worth making an appointment or will they just give me 'it boots and runs, what can we do until it dies'?
View 3 Replies View Relatedwondering if there is an app, or a way, or using something similar to Aero Snap in Windows 7 on Snow Leopard? It's a feature of 7 I really like, I use it constantly. Other than writing some Applescript, can anyone think of something that lets me do it?
View 12 Replies View RelatedIt came with a carrying case, but I want a little more protection, like a snap on case? My cousin has a MacBook Pro and has one. And I want one exactly like it! But I haven't been able to find a similar one for my PowerBook If you don't know what I'm talking about, look here: [URL:...]Something along those lines. I've been looking for one for awhile but I can't seem to find one.
View 1 Replies View RelatedWith OS X, I always find it annoying that windows can still me moved when maximized. I don't see the point of this since 99% of the problem this causes is that my windows are offset by 2-5 pixels (which I then have to zoom, then re-zoom to maximize the window again). Why can't we have snapping to window edges? Many programs already do this, and they don't detract from the design purity of OS X (unlike Windows 7 which does this over the top and fugly screen edge animation). A slight nudge when your window hits 2-4pxs off the side of the screen would suffice. A center line should exist too, since I find myself using my screen very much so half and half - it is very annoying to get the windows to be half and half equally.
View 10 Replies View RelatedAs of iTunes 10, I have noticed my scrollbar no longer snaps to the point I click on. I have to drag the indicator to the point I am looking for. I'm refering to my music catalogue and in the view as "album list" and sorted by artist. Anyone else have this issue? I really liked being able to snap to a point when looking for artists and radio station links.

View 3 Replies View RelatedMy ibook G4 (running leopard) has a battery that seems to drop from around 75% to the computer shutting down completely (ncluding loss of prefered wifi network) in literally the blink of an eye, with no warning. I have calibrated it. I tried running coconut battery to see its vitals and the program tells me crazy things like it can charge to 12666mAh which we all know is impossible. Any ideas at all? The apple info says it has around 206 cycles on it total. Do I need to just cough up and buy a new battery? I'm hoping not as I just got the computer used through the marketplace and the guy before said he was getting 2-3 hours still.

Lately I've noticed a loud popping noise when I adjust the tilt angle on my screen. The noise comes from the right side of the screen and is very loud. This happens when the screen angle has been stationary for a few minutes. I went to the Apple Store today and the genius told me it was normal.

View 4 Replies View RelatedMy 13" MacBook Pro (Mid 2011) is making a loud click, or snapping noise whenever the clamshell is closed, or moved a little sometimes. It's becoming very persistant and doesn't seem normal. Most of the time it does make the noise (which is from the back right). I'm taking it in tomorrow under warranty. Any suggestions? Is this normal? The screen also moves smoothly and is always in place. It's all strange and hopefully they can replace the hinge.

I've been using my macbook for a few months right now, and primarily use it for recording me and my band-mates on Logic express, but now, I've not been able to use my iSight on my mac. I don't know what's wrong with it, because I've always been able to take photos with friends in Photo Booth and take movies with it as well. Up till now that is. A few days ago I tried to open up Photo Booth and snap a picture, but all I got was a blank screen. The program would count down, but the screen would just be white instead of showing what it would take. The little green light next to it would go on as well, but it wouldn't take a picture, and nothing is blocking the screen either.
View 2 Replies View RelatedOK, I run a MacBook 13in, OS 10.5.8 with the superdrive that came with the machine.
Really, I'm not stupid, and I actually do successfully troubleshoot stuff usually..
However, I am baffled as to why I can not access the DVD-ROM special features on my Disney DVD movie discs. (I actually installed Interactual Player for Mac thinking maybe I needed it, but I can't say it helped.)
I can play the movie, and my son can play the games, but their are printables on the disc that when I click on them it tells me to access these features, , insert your disk into a DVD-ROM drive.... OK, As many of you already know there is is only the one disc drive on this computer... I tried searching in the "folders" of the disc for any file format I thought would open in another application ( say a txt, doc, html, xml, etc) but none of those are the printable pages supposedly on the disc. I even tried to use my husband's PC (GASP!) but got the same answer.
I can't find anybody else having these issues. I installed the Chrome beta a while back, and it's been updating itself since, but I need to finally get extensions working - I need my Adblock (Digg is completely unbearable without it). I read about the method to enable it weeks ago, just install the dev version - agree to the EULA and download. I did that, and overwrote the existing copy of Chrome. I didn't remove any other files. I still can't install extensions using the bookmarklet - it enables the install button, but I receive 'Extensions are not enabled' immediately after the download tries to start. The other thing is, the dev version is supposed to include the bookmark manager. That's also nowhere to be seen. Chrome says I'm running version 4.0.249.30 and that it's up to date. Any ideas? Do I have to completely remove Chrome before installing the dev version (i.e. everything I've built up in my Chrome profile to this point in Application Support)?

Here's what I gathered so far on the new Airs.
Good:
More RAM - up to 4GB. At last.
Flash storage across the range - faster to resume from sleep, faster in general
11.6" also available - at least there is a choice of sizes
Beefier graphics chips - will now drive the 27" Cinema Display natively
Stereo speakers
Glass Trackpad - though you may not prefer it
Higher resolution displays
+1 USB port
Improved battery life (TBC)
Reduced thickness and weight
Not So Good:
No more backlit keyboard
No more bundled USB>Ethernet adapter
Still got display port/audio out/magsafe on different sides of the chassis
Unknown:
Have they fixed the hinge problem?
Have they improved the cooling design?
Are the edges still quite sharp on your wrists?
Is the display fully glossy or like the old ones?
The only compelling feature for me over my revC is the 4Gb RAM. Not worth the cost of upgrading.
