Problems started after uploading the Lion in March. Now at least Windows 7 users can´t open any pdfs or jpegs that I have included into sent e-mails. They can see that they are included but can´t open them. What can I do?

I can sometimes right click on the link and either download the pdf or save it as a document as a workaround to enable me to open it.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have an issue with pdfs that I make in OS X Lion 10.7.4. If I create a pdf through the Print dialog I get a perfectly OK document. If I pass the pdf to a Windows user (Windows XP Pro, Service Pack 3) and they open it using Adobe Reader or Acrobat 9, the pdf seems to be masked with random black rectangles. These appear where there was an indent or tab in the original document, but not in every case, and they are also randomly distributed in other parts of the doc.Â
I have also used the method of taking a screenshot as pdf, with the same result. Using the excellent Skitch to take a pdf screenshot gives a different problem, with Acrobat displaying a uniform grey box, so no joy there.Â
I have two Lion 10.7.3 servers joined to my company's AD. These servers provide SMB/AFP file services to users. They have been working successfully until a week ago when a change in AD was made. Now Windows (7 or XP, doesn't matter) clients cannot connect to the server using the DNS name, only the IP address. Mac OS X clients are not affected by this, i.e. they can use the DNS name fine. All clients are on AD too. What I observe from a Windows 7 client is, I open Windows Explorer, type \xserver in the address bar, hit enter, & it denies my connection immediately. If I do the same thing with the IP address (\10.0.1.10), it lets me in immediately.
For Windows clients, I have tried both the short DNS name as well as the FQDN, & neither work. The DNS name on the server itself is fine, verified by "changeip -checkhostname". Whatever changed in AD caused the Lion servers to start doing this because they both started exhibiting this behavior at the same time. The only info I've been able to get regarding what changed in AD from the domain admins was "We changed the UPN fromuser@domain.example.com to Firstname.Lastname@example.com", in other words, to their email address. In the system logs, here's an attempt to connect from a Windows client using the short DNS name:

Lately I have been unable to open PDFs from the internet. When I click it sends me to a blank internet tab. Sometimes I am able to control click and have the option to save the file in my downloads, then have to go back into finder to open the file. This is also the case when opening PDFs from emails. Many of the power points/ keynotes created by students are informative but lack the ability to hold an audience’s attention (boring). Since I have this wonderful Macbook pro, I would like to create a dynamic keynote presentation which would include clips of audio and video files (I already know about converting keynote to power point). The only problem is, the videos I want to use in the keynote presentation are not able to be manipulated in iMovie (due to their format), and if they where able to be manipulated in iMovie, I’m not sure that PC users would be able to properly view them.
What video format (including embedded audio) is able to be viewed and heard by both OSX Lion users and Windows users?  If this is possible, can anyone suggest a safe application that I can purchase from the apple app store that will allow me to convert video files (including embedded audio) so that it can be viewed by both Lion and PC users? Preferably one that does not need access to the internet in order to convert the files ( I’m on the go allot and use an air card for internet access), but I will take it if this is the best option. If the app store does not have this type of application, is there a place that I can download a safe one?Â

why all the documents I've made on pages, exported to pdf and sent to windows users can't be opened at the other end? Pages is great for formating docs, but I'm about to give up on it as nobody seems to EVER be able to open it! If I export it as a .doc it loses the format. Thanks.

Unless I install Adobe Reader all I get is dark black screen. I've tried using Firefox instead of Safari but have the same problem. Macbook Pro won't boot. Symptoms preceding failure included failure to open Firefox. When trying to cold boot I can get as far as the start-up sound, the Apple logo, and the spinning whieel (spins for a bit but not for very long) and then major failure. Not running Liom.

I use Bootcamp occasionally for some software that is not available on a Mac as well as MS Office, but unfortunately, I had the partition set to 150 Gb when I set it up which is way too much. I don't want to reformat etc. to reduce the size so just recently, I decided to use that partition for my iTunes folder plus Gb's of work documents which suits me just fine.Â
I have Time Machine setup to backup my Mac and whereas before I had Bootcamp excluded, I am now trying to have the settings so that all of Bootcamp is excluded EXCEPT for 2 folders - iTunes and Personal. I can't see a way to do this because since I have Bootcamp excluded, the subfolders are non-selectable. I tried one way where instead of selecting all of Bootcamp, I did a CMD-A and selected all with an idea of deselecting folders, but even this way, I am unable to deselect the 2 folders because all folders are greyed out.Â
So the question is - Is it possible to exclude Bootcamp and at the same time to de-exclude the 2 folders? If not, I suppose my option would be to backup (well, actually copy!) the 2 folders to my TM drive.Â

Apple mail out of office rule is sending auto replies to all emails not just newly received emails--HELP! I set up the rule according to another apple support thread and instead of only sending the reply to new mail received, it was sent to all messages I believe that were in my INBOX, I only had a few but several people that hadn't sent me emails since I set up the rule, received the OUT OF OFFICE reply.Here is the procedure I followed for the out of office rule-[URL]I just used my email account which is a business account- not an ECU account but these rules according to the apple thread apply for all emails.
