Is there a keyboard shortcut for switching search engines in Safari's search box (I believe Chrome had this feature before they got rid of the search box in the latest version)? The arrow on the left-hand side is cumbersome.

View 3 Replies View Relatedif it is possible to open a specific file or program by mapping a keyboard shortcut.
For example, FN-F1 could open "ABC.DOC" or FN-F2 could open Excel.
Is anything like this possible, either within Mac OS X (10.7.4) or with a third party program?

I have a MacBook Pro Late 2011 with built in US keyboard.
However I mainly typing using an external fullsize Apple Japanese Keyboard that I perchased from the Japan Apple Store.
One issue I'm having is switching betwen windows in the same program.
On US keyboards, the command is COMMAND + `
However this does not work on the Japanese model, as the ` key is actually on the same key as @, and requires pressing shift, breaking the shortcut.
Does anyone know the Japanese shortcut to change between windows in the same program?

Right now the shortcut on my Danish MBP is CMD+< (the button right to the left shift button), but I would rather have it to be something like CMD+$ (button over the tap button).
So this is a new thing that started happening, and has got me stumped. When I hit Apple key+N in Safari, a new browser window will open, I will be switched to the Finder, and a new window in the Finder will open up. This new window in the Finder is the Computer window, the one listing the HD, the network icon, and any attached disks. It is not the same window I would get by hitting Apple+N while in the Finder. Only seems to do this while in Safari.

View 2 Replies View RelatedHow can I disable the (Command + "Left or Right Arrow") Keystroke in Safari that navigates Back and Forward. If I could also disable the (delete) key from navigating back, I would be happy.
I edit text with these keystrokes all the time and now that I've upgraded to Lion and Safari 5.1.5 I run into problems with my workflow.
I just want (delete) to delete text and (Command + Arrow Key) to select a whole line of text.
I created an Automator Service to restart my computer in Bootcamp (since I was getting very tired of having to navigate to the Startup Disk Prefence pane every time). What I would like to do, is make this service have a global keyboard shortcut. However, when I try to set one in the Keyboard Shorcuts preferences (i.e. double-clicking and holding down the desired keys), my computer just beeps at me.
I thought maybe it was not allowing the specific shortcut I was trying - thinking maybe it was already in use. So I tried many other key combinations - enough to come to the conclusion that this was not the issue.

My right Shift Key is acting as a keyboard shortcut to show the desktop. Any time it is pressed, it shows the desktop (not even having to push cmd-shift or some other variation). I've restored keyboard shortcuts to defaults, repaired permissions, and restarted my computer several times. Nothing works. I'm not sure if this was something I did in Snow Leopard a while back that now can't disable in Lion?

After upgrading to Lion I see a check box at shutdown to refrain from opening web pages currently open in Safari. I did that, unchecked it, but they still open. How odd they would make this a opt out scenario - is there a way to make this permanent? I liked the old way where you could go into History and do it during a new session.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm using Mac Mini with a Logitech keyboard with a built-in trackpad as HTPC. Therefore, I need a keyboard shortcut for zooming in and out in a browser (any browser). No pinch to zoom on Logitech. Ok, regularly, there is cmd plus / cmd minus to do this. On the english keyboard layout, these keys are next to each other and next to backspace. And it works. However, I am from the Czech republic and therefore using Czech layout. In it, minus is mapped as the first key left to the right shift. And it works for zoom out. BUT, the plus sign is mapped on the numeral 1 and hitting the cmd button alone changes it from plus to the number 1! So there is no way for me to hit the combination of keys cmd and plus.

For years I'm trying to find a keyboard shortcut for 'strikethrough' or 'struck through' or however you want to call text with a horizontal line through it in OS X Mail. You'd think it is a popular feature since the strikethrough style has been on text editors since the earliest days of the Mac, well at least for decades I can remember and on the other hand it's easy to implement in HTML email since there's a HTML tag for it, <s>triketrough, just like there is for <b>old and <i>talic.
I did manage to add a shortcut for strikethrough by adding a style to 'favorite styles' via the 'system wide' styles menu. (You can do this by making a text selection strikethrough and then add this style to the styles menu via, for example, using the right mouse button or CTRL-clicking on a text selection and choosing Fonts, submenu Styles. I named it Struck though (or maybe it was already there, I'm not sure).
Then I added a shortcut for it in System Preferences / Keyboard / Shortcuts (Select Applications in the bottem of the left colomn, click the + sign below the second column, choose 'All applications' else it won't work in Textedit for some reason, name it EXACTLY after your menu item, for example in my case Struck through — and choose a keyboard shortcut that is not already in use. Watch out: somehow it doesn't warn you any more for used shortcuts. If I recall correctly it did warm me in older versions of OS X.) This shortcut is working in Textedit but still not in Mail. I really hoped this new version of Mail 5.2 would finally have a fix for this. Is there really no way to use a shortcut for strikethrough in Mail?

Is there a way to create a keyboard shortcut so I automatically fill out (i.e.) login information/email addresses instead of have to type the whole thing.
I frequently fill out my private and work email and would like to make that faster. Like on the iOS you can crate short words that is replaced with a long word when you fill out forms etc.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI had a shortcut or a bug yesterday which went away after I restarted the computer. It was switching spaces when I move the cursor to each side of the screen. Example: when I move the cursor all the way to the right of the screen, it would switch to space 2. Down would go to space 3 or 4 depending. I want this feature back but wasn't able to find it. I am running 10.6.4 btw.

Whenever I launch Pages, the application opens pretty much all the documents I've worked on. I take care to close all the windows, hoping that they won't launch again next time I start the application, yet they do. I can't find a setting in the preferences or Settings to disable this behavior.
