the only screen I get is the apple logo then an x, and ? mark. it keeps repeating this. computer was new to a backup on external hard drive. Iphotos were put on external then trashed. about 3200 images. I thought this was slowing it up. the macbook pro it is non functional now. aboaut a 3-4 year old computer.

I tried to install Ubuntu 9.04 on 500 GB external drive and it will now no longer boot Ubuntu nor Mac. I need to know how to fix this. Things already tried:
*Backing up harddrive and installing Snow Leopard (10.5.4 is what it is)
*Deleting the external harddrive and reformatting it.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have no id� whats wrong, I want to install Snow Leopard(from the external) on my Core2duo Macbook pro, which is running Leopard at the moment.
I have a Snow Leopard image, and I have used Disc utility to partition the external hard drive (GUID), and I assume the partition and install went well on the external, because in Disc start the external appears as OSX 10.6.
Then the problem: The macbook wont boot from the newly made external it just gives me this sign (of course without the colours).
I have tried to start the macbook normal, and with the option key held down were the external pops up.
I have also tried to chose the external in disc start and reboot with no luck.
I have tried to start the Snow Leopard install(external) within Leopard where the install start fine, but when it reboots and wants to continue the install, the sign appears.
The external harddrive is a 5400rpm 40gb 2,5" which is only powered by the usb port maybe thats the problem?
I bought a new G-RAID and do not know how te start FCPX. I can start FCPX from other external drives containing FCPX Libraries. I do not simply want to copy libraries from existing drives to the new G-RAID.

I bought a Guardian MAXimus hard drive and it seemed to be working fine for the past few weeks. Now all of sudden when starting my Imac 27 I7 the grey screen takes a long time then it get stuck on the blue screen and stays like that. Some times after being on the blue screen it will goto the main page but it takes 3-5 min if it does. When it gets stuck, if I unplug the firewire from the back of the computer from the hard drive it boots up. Any thoughts, their tech support wants me to send the unit back with out doing any testing at home to see what the problem is, seems like a pain in the butt.

View 3 Replies View RelatedOk so I have an 8800 GS imac, 3.06 intel core 2, 4 gigs ram. Running snow lepord. I need to resolve an issue where I can not get into OSX. At first I got error messeges saying my external HDD could not read, now it looks like its my primary drive because when I restarted I got the progress bar under the apple logo, indicating that something is wrong with the OS. The bar when to full 100% but then I got stuck at never ending spinning wheel. I restarted and no more progress bar but still the spining wheel of death. I really dont mind refomrating its just that I had some important text documents and other files that I cant get back without recoving them some how. How to proceed? I held down cmd v or s (i forgot) on startup and got a black screen with several problem statements. One reads the system boot strapper has crashed trace BPT trap.
View 1 Replies View RelatedInstalled a new 750GB drive into my MacBookPro 5.1 Couldn't get Winclone to make image so I was forced to start from scratch with a new XP installation.
My MBP is partitioned 25%Mac & 75%XP with bootcamp and I have the old drive in a enclosure connected with a firewire. So all of old files are on the external drive now.
After installing XP I have no internet connection, drivers etc... However if I boot up on the mac side everything works fine. (I cloned the mac os already with Carbon copy).
So can I just copy all my old drivers over to the new drive? If yes how and if no how do I get them installed on the new harddrive. The MBP came with everything preinstalled.
I have a 2010 Mac Book Pro that I just downloaded the new OS X Lion for the upgrades ext... I haven't had any other problems except that before I downloaded the Lion my Mac would recognize my external hard drive (WD passport). And now it doesn't, I even go to the finder and it doesn't even show up under "computer" to make sure there isn't anything wrong with my external hard drive I plugged it into another mac that doesn't have Lion and it would work. My external drive has everything 1TG of everything.

I recently installed OSX Lion and everytime I plug in my WD external hard drive it disconnects it a few minutes after pluging it in. I did some troubleshooting by pluging the hard drive into another mac book that hasn't been upgraded to OSX Lion and it wasn't disconnected. I have my entire itunes library stored on this hard drive.

All my external disk drives which had all been visible to the system and accessible before the update no longer were visible to the OS. Not in the sidebar and not in the disk utility. After checking all connections etc. many reboots, resetting the pram i still am unable to see or access these disks. From there i updated to 10.6.8 but exactly the same results. i'm not sure where to go from here. i have 4 externals on 2 different usb routers and 1 external on a firewire router. I'm considering removing the routers and trying each drive separately and directly connected to the laptop.

Thus far, I am able to get to the Startup Menu from holding the option key and Windows does show up. However, when I try to boot it, it says "No Bootable Device Found."
the hard drive has Windows 8.1 installed on it. It is not a drive to install Windows through Boot Camp.
I installed on my mac using bootcamp (I use parallels), so, After a few attempts as my s/n was entered incorrectly... I finally got xp working. However when running the mac, XP loads up automatically. I can not seem to get the mac to start up. I done everything by the book, why is this happening? how do I fix? It gives me 2 (or three) of the "dial tone" beeps, the light flashes on and off and the only thing running would be the fan, running at an ultra high speed.I did install the correct modules, which are 2 x 1gb 184 pin DDR PC3200 400mhz ones, but I realize that they are high density ones. Dumb question here, but would that be the problem?

I have a Hitachi Touro USB 3.0 1TB external hard drive that has always worked on my Macbook. Formatted in FAT so it would work on both my PC and Mac. I can't remember exactly when it stopped working, but I think I had to reset my mac once as it stopped responding and the HDD was plugged in. After that it stopped showing up in Finder, but still appears in Disk Utility. It also shows up in Storage under "About This Mac". I've tried resetting my computer, ran Apple Hardware Test, and have tested the hard drive on other computers and it works fine. Just doesn't show up in Finder on my mac!!

I have a PowerPC Imac. I have OS 10.4.11 installed on it. Today I started it up and it was working fine, however it froze while trying to load Photoshop. I had to force shut down and when I tried to reboot, I got a flashing folder and question mark. I have tried running Disk Utility, but it gets stuck at the Gathering Disk Information stage. I have tried resetting the PRAM (I think that's what it's called). It won't let me start up in safe mode or single-use mode. When I try to specify a startup disk, my hard drive is not listed.
What do I do? Is there any way to salvage this? My biggest concern are my pictures of my family that I unfortunately have not backed up.
Ive recently had to re-install Tiger after being told that there was an error in the startup volume. I am far from computer savy so I just basically follow instructions Sadly, after doing so Ive been experiencing problems with my iPod nano & iTunes. I can sync but the songs put onto my iPod look gray instead of black. And, when I disconnect my iPod says there arent any songs on it. When I look at Music in Finder I noticed that I get a few items listed more than once. I've had my hard drive re partitioned today and all my data was dragged onto an external hard drive. connect the drive & use migration assistant to transfer everything. I understand I could drag and drop files but I want everything to be done properly through migration assistant but it won't pick up the external drive , however it's files are accessible through finder. Migration assistant just constantly gives me the message, 'looking for computer'.
