IMac :: Installed Open Office - Start Screen Icons Stacked

I got the Agua version and I'm on the newest version of Snow Leopard. I would post a screen shot if I knew how to. But when I open OpenOffice in Applications you get the start screen where you usually get to choose between the different programs. First of all on the text "Welcome to openoffice", the bottom half of "Welcome to" is missing. And then all the icons below are kind of stacked onto each other so you can only access some of them and its impossible to see what the icons does, cause the text for them also run into each other.

I recently upgraded the RAM on my iMac PowerPC, but after installing the new modules, nothing would come up when I boot it. It gives me 2 (or three) of the "dial tone" beeps, the light flashes on and off and the only thing running would be the fan, running at an ultra high speed.I did install the correct modules, which are 2 x 1gb 184 pin DDR PC3200 400mhz ones, but I realize that they are high density ones. Dumb question here, but would that be the problem?

I have a PowerPC Imac. I have OS 10.4.11 installed on it. Today I started it up and it was working fine, however it froze while trying to load Photoshop. I had to force shut down and when I tried to reboot, I got a flashing folder and question mark. I have tried running Disk Utility, but it gets stuck at the Gathering Disk Information stage. I have tried resetting the PRAM (I think that's what it's called). It won't let me start up in safe mode or single-use mode. When I try to specify a startup disk, my hard drive is not listed.
What do I do? Is there any way to salvage this? My biggest concern are my pictures of my family that I unfortunately have not backed up.

Used to use Microsoft 2000 Word Processor on Dell Laptop. My iMac is 2 weeks old and documents have successfully been transferred from the Dell to Mac via Maxtor external hard drive.  How can I open the Word Processing documents - NOT to use, but to read. WPS is the extension. There is plenty of discussion on MS Word, but not MS Word Processor

I have just installed Maverick. When I use Safari and try and open a Pdf file from a webpage I get a black screen and tells me to download Adobe. I have reinstalled adobe reader but still don't get anywhere. I can open any pdf files I have previously stored or have in downloads or in documents.

Some weeks ago, I installed OS X Yosemite, as shown on my App Store, that was a "System Update available for my IMac 2009". Followed all the steps, normally and installed it as I did many other times ago (with the Maverick, Mountain Lion, OS X).Â
Just after the installation, I noticed that every single folder or program that depends on "Apple", stopped working.Â
Examples: Office package opens normally, so as Firefox. But, IPhoto, ITunes, Safari and App Store itself do not.
When trying to reinstall Yosemite or return to the one I had before, using App Store became impossible. Even the "Apple Icon" on the top left corner does not work. I click, it flashes, just IF it was ready to open, but nothing happens, seams that have something stopping the "loading process" of the software.

This is the image I get on my iMac 2.4 GHz Intel Core Duo OSX10.5.4. I have repaired permisions and removed all login items. Once I move the cursor or open up a window the screen clears behind the cursor or window etc... It freezes up at least once or twice a day...
I started up again and attached another screen, the image was normal on both screens. But alone the iMac still starts up with the pixelated screen.

All of the icons and screens have been blown up which extends beyond the boundary of the monitor. It acts as though the display has been magnified and the Dock and other frames disappear off the screen. How to reset this to normal display?

Whilst still waiting for the MBP refresh, I would like some advice on which office software you would recommend.
I have decided to convert from being a pc user to have a go with a mac as i have heard so much positive info about its OSX operating system.
I have many word files etc (obviosuly coming from a pc).
What would you recommend,
iwork (�55 pre installed)
office for mac (�?)
open office (free)
Which one if all of these will enable me to just plug in my usb stick and download all my word/ excel files and pictures without any issues and edit/ change/send again without any issues.

I was at an Apple Store this weekend and playing around with the new MBA. I noticed that they had MS Office 2011 installed already. I checked out the version number and it's 14.0.1, build 101008. Anybody knows if this version is just Apple store, or it'll be an update?

Okay so I found a perfect set of icons I wanted to use for Word, Excel, Powerpoint... But I can't seem to change them. Using that copy&paste method doesn't work, and because it's not a packaged app I can't use Candybar.

I'm not sure why, but all my MS Word documents have the generic file icon and nothing that makes me think Pages '08 is going to open that file. This goes the same for .xls documents. Even though both file types are set to open in iWork, they retain the generic blank icon.
Is this normal? Shouldn't they have Pages/Numbers icons respectively, even if they were created in Word?

Something is wrong with my HDD.
I don't think it's dead but something to do with the indexing of the HDD.
I can go into target firewire mode and i am backing up my data as we speak. However I do not have a big external HDD that i can back up everything so I have to pick and choose.
I have diskwarrior but it does not boot up. It says cannot find boot hdd or something and shows a No entry sign on the grey loading screen with the spinning gear.
I tried disk utility to repair the HDD but it says it tries three times and fails. Cannot locate the index file. I think this is my main problem here.
If i try and boot in verbose mode it shows this [URL] something message and repeats that it cannot locate the file. I dont even know what this is as i've never been to this website.
Anyway I can repair the index file and see if mac os x will boot up? Or you recommend a fresh install?
I just want to boot the mac once so i can look for some files because spotlight wont work since it says its trying to index the macintosh HD from firewire.

my new imac has recently been displaying a red screen for a split second on startup, does this indicate a problem or not. I'ts my first mac so I know very little about it being a regular pc user.

Microsoft has issued a third release of its private beta program for Office 2011 for Mac, which is expected to reach production by the end of the year. The new release overhauls the suite's icons, which haven't significantly changed since Office v.X appeared in late 2001 with bubbly translucent icons intended to reflect the Aqua appearance of Mac OS X. The new 2011 icons are toned down and more serious looking (below). Also refined are the splash screens for each app. The new suite works to bring more visual harmony between the Mac and Windows versions; Microsoft just released Office 2010, the Windows equivalent of the upcoming 2011 Mac version. I am using Microsoft Office for Mac 2008, which has been performing fine for many months. Now all of a sudden the icons are missing on my toolbars. All that it shows in the toolbar window, (both standard and format toolbars), is the text without the icons, with just a blank dark area where the tool icons should be, leaving the toolbar impossible to use in any practical way. No amount of selecting or de-selecting the toolbars via drop down window "view", or changing the option for "text and icons", or "resetting� the toolbars in �customise� will change this situation. The problem has occurred in all of "word", "excel", "PowerPoint" and �Entourage�. I have tried reinstalling office from the original CD, but the problem persists. I have even quarantined the �normal.dotm� file before reinstalling office, but it simply created a new "normal" file with the same result. No icons on the toolbars. I am using OS X leopard. I haven't yet resorted to reinstalling leopard, but what else is there?!? Any clues to what has caused this to suddenly occur?

27th november 2009 -- FINALY !! My iMac 27" arrived.I rush to make it run and to update everything, and to get Vista 64 Ultimate running.FInally installing my games again ( WoW and AION ) and 3 hours later set to play.1 hour -- Man everything is so nice....2nd hour -- My mac start to go crazy -- Flickering of the screen
2H15 later -- My Screen turns black for 1 second and comes back...So is this a heating problem ? Flackering after i played some hours ?Can i do something ?s the first 27" serie not working properly ?

This is likely a Snow Leopard issue, but since it's happening on my Macbook....
Icons are (mostly) not displaying. In Finder my /Applications folder is ok, but anything new I install into it will have a name but no icon. In /Applications/Utilities no icons are showing My dock is ok, so far at least. On my Desktop (my default folder for downloads) anything downloaded will have a name but no icon. When installing a new program no icon for the app displays, just the name.

I want to upgraded Ram in my early 2009 24-inch Intel iMac. What would be awesome is if I could swap out the iMac's memory and install it into my mid 2009 13-inch Macbook Pro. Every thing I've read so far indicates this is possible. What I want to know is this, is the original RAM in my iMac the cooler running un-stacked RAM or does Apple use the not so cool running stacked RAM stick?
