IMac (Intel) :: When In Sleep Mode - Programs Are Forced To Close

Aug 29, 2014

2010 iMac running 10.9.4.  Lately certain programs are forced to close on a regular basis.  This includes Safari, Mail, Crashplan.  It usually happens when the computer is sleeping.  When I wake up the computer first thing in the morning, I usually have 3 - 4 messages saying that certain programs were forced to restart.  This can also sometimes occur when the computer is not sleeping, but when I am using it.  Typically it's Safari that is forced to restart.

Recently upgraded RAM and added Crashplan software for data backup.

IMac (Intel) :: Going Into Target Disk Mode Instead Of Startup Manager

Aug 21, 2014

I'm trying to sort out a problem with a mid-2007 iMac. When trying to start it up normally it would get past the Apple screen, then go onto a blue screen with a cursor and stay there.

I made a bootable Snow Leopard USB drive to try and repair the disk / re-install the OS. Plugged in the USB drive, and tried to boot the iMac into startup manager by holding down the option key. But instead of showing the volumes to launch startup manager, it keeps bringing up a grey screen with the Firewire logo on, which I believe is what happens when launching into Target Disk Mode.

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Macbook Pro Won't Start Up In 32 Bit Mode

May 29, 2012

My Macbook pro refuses to start up in 32 bit mode. At least as I believe so. When I go to "Apple > About This Mac > More Info > System Report > Software" It says "64-bit Kernel and Extensions: No" which leads me to believe (through previous research) that I am currently NOT in 64 bit mode and thus 32 bit. However in activity moniter it says everytihng is running in 64 bit mode, which to me, is quite confusing. I have tried holding down key's "3" and "2" during start up and I have tried the terminal command line for it ("sudo systemsetup -setkernelbootarchitecture i386"). Both to no avail.

IMac (Intel) :: DVD Player Launches In Mavericks Using Recovery Mode Start Up But Not HD

Aug 26, 2014

Running mid-2009 iMac with latest Mavericks 10.9.4.

DVD Player has been performing perfectly in Snow Leopard until this update to Mavericks.

I've tried resetting SMC/NVRAM. Reinstalled Mavericks 3 times. Tried dumping the plist too. That did nothing. I've re-set SMC/NVRAM...done the Permissions using Disc Utility.

I can get a DVD to load selecting the Recovery Mode StartUp disk. Then I reboot and the DVD plays fine using the DVD controls. But ejecting and trying it again - it won't play.

They speak to each other via a zip disk. Although I print at home with an Epson Stylus 740, I would like to install a basic printer for the classic Imac OS 9.6 at the office, mostly for printing pages of type. It would be used exclusively for the old, classic iMac only.

MacBook Pro :: Do Not Have Any Startup Programs

Sep 5, 2014

As stated above I upgraded my memory to Crucial 8G 1067 mhz DDR3. The initial results were outstanding however over the past few months the performance has decreased and I'm now getting the spinning ball often.  Additionally the startup seems very sluggish. I use Onyx for maintenance and do not have any startup programs.  I have also reset the kernel cache.  (If I remember correctly)

MacBook Air :: How To Stop Start Up Programs From Opening

May 29, 2012

I am getting a little frustrated. Everytime I start my computer Word, Excel and other programs open. I have tried the following which hasn't helped.

1. I went into system preferences into User/Groups, logins and deleted all items.

2. Hovered over the word in the menu bar at the bottom of the screen, clicked options, unchecked open at login. (I have been closing down the application before loging off)

Other than that I am not sure how to stop these from opening.
