In my Applications Folder I have an alias Applications Folder.When I deleted the alias folder it wiped out all my applications on my hard drive.Does anyone know how I can delete the alias folder without deleting all my Applications?
I am using OSX 10.6.8.
I downloaded skype and then deleted it because I did not like it. I drug it to the trash, but I then searched for it in finder to make sure it was gone and an alias comes up and says alias can not open because original cannot be found. How to get rid of this alias??? If I hit delete alias it just keeps coming back up to hit again and again??

I know you can fix an alias by doing "get info" and find original but the window that opens hides the original path and can't be moved. Further more I'd simply need to edit out the first part of the "original" location. I thought opening an alias in textedit would allow me to do that easily but it's unreadable. how I could fix these quickly instead of browsing deep in folder structure to find them again?

I am using Image Capture 4.0 to download photos. When I plug in my storage device (camera, SD card, USB stick, etc.) Image Capture opens and along with the option to select the download folder, all the names of the folders (grayed out) I have used since I first started using the computer appear. These are folders I no longer use, but to get to the actual area or folder that I want to download to, I have to scroll past a couple hunderd previous, grayed out folder names. Once I get to the actual desired folder, I can download to it. But, those annoying, old folder names still appear on the hard drive.

I originally used migration assistant from a Tiger MBP to this one & read that I may have corrupted Tiger P-Lists transferred over to my Leopard One. I would like to ask, how can I get rid of/delete my current preferences list to see if that fixes the problem - it did with another person who also transferred from Tiger to Leopard with Migration Assistant!
Will I lose anything by deleting the Preferences Folder/Files? I think I read somewhere that OS X automatically replaces them with current versions if that is correct? Ae Preference Lists taken care of too when deleting the folder/files?

Have everything set up properly as per Apple's documentation, but all clients error out on software updates (saying they can't find the index. sucatalog file). When you view this file, which is an alias, within the HTML folder that is created when you enable the Software Update service in Server Admin, the alias doesn't link to an original.I've tried this on two separate 10.6.8 Server installations and I get the same error on both machines.Where is the alias "index.sucatalog" supposed to point to?Software Update Error Log in Server Admin says "Symbolic link not allowed or link target not accessible" and points to the alias file.

I have tried changing the rw permission and reselecting the original appliaction etc. But still unable to delete these alias icons. can someone point me in the right dircetion to use Terminal command such as rm -f file name to permanetely remove these left over icons. Before OS X Lion 10.7 I was able to chmod etc and delete the icon.

After I installed Snow Leopard, I installed all of the printer drivers on the disc. It was a rather hefty size, over 1GB. Is there a way, manually or automatically, to delete all the ones I don't need? I've done a search, and a couple of places (possibly outdated) have pointed me to Library > Printers, and that all the printer drivers should be there. I would like to create an archive of important application installers and I will sync the contents between two systems MacPro and Macbook Pro.Â
I need to pull the names of the application/developers from somewhere so I figured I would use the Application Support directory.Â
So I need a way to copy this directories folder structure without any of the file contents. Is there an easy way to do this. I found a post with an Automator script but the link is dead [URL]
I also found this post that refers to doing it in terminal but since it is the app support directory I am wary to do this as I am not familiar with terminal at all and I am not clear on what exactly to write in the old_dir / new_dir section. I figure it would be something like this /Library/Application Support but I dont want to make a mistake.Â

I want to unclutter my macbook and I have found that I have duplicated files in my All Document folder. I want to delete these files so it is not taking up unwanted space on my hard drive. I have saved what I wanted in folders that I created for that subject. Everything else I want to delete.  My question is if I delete this stuff will it cause my computer to mess up, I wont be deleting important files for programs to need to run with, will I.  I also found that I have two "All Document" folders and two "Download" folders can I delete one so I only have one of each.Â

I want to create stacks for my Applications and put them in the dock by type. Utilities, Music & Video, iLife, etc. I think what I will do is make aliases for all the applications and put them in subfolders separate from the Applications folder, so then I have these 3-6 subfolders in my dock as stacks that I can display in Grid or Fan mode. And I don't have to see all my applications in one jumbled Grid and search for them.

So far so good.I then wanted to delet the original Applications from the HD folder.I can't delete it so now I have duplicate Application Folders and duplicate Applications.how I might delete the origial folder?
