When right-clicking on a file or folder I should get the contextual menu option to 'Move to Trash'. Instead, the item is deleted immediately. Where is the setting that could have changed this?

I just opened my Trash bin, and there were maybe 12-15 items in ithere. But when I use Secure Delete, the pop-up box says there are 931 items, and it then proceeds to delete them---I guess.I only saw the 12-15 files, and that's it.

I would like to be able to store deleted emails indefinitely until I empty the trash mailbox. Even though I check "never" in the mailbox behavior, it only keeps the messages for 30 days.

Initially, the trash container worked as expected: Items would go directly to the trash and stay there until I emptied it.Â
I don't believe I did anything to cause what it does now but I don't like it: If I move something to to trash, I am prompted to enter my password (which I really don't like) and no items are held in the trash (what I used to call the recycling bin--which I kind of liked having).Â
As for troubleshooting, I have changed the preference settings under "Finder" and nothing changes.

The hard drive is 500 gig and within 3 months worth of backing up I only have 287 gigs. How can I remove movies and other stuff off the hard drive? I tried deleting the a movie by looking into the back up folders on the hard drive but it keeps telling me it can't be modified.

Is there a way, manually or automatically, to delete all the ones I don't need? I've done a search, and a couple of places (possibly outdated) have pointed me to Library > Printers, and that all the printer drivers should be there. When I do that, I only see the application for my own printer.............

I was trying to delete one file , so i dragged to trash, then all of a sudden I realize my entire Drobo (3TB Huge) was highlighted and deleting to my trash! So now I have a trash folder full all my Drobo's content and I can't figure out how to get it all back to "put back"! I'm afraid that I am going to inadvertently empty trash and lose my entire Drobo's contents! I need to figure out how to undo or put back ... come on Apple. Why'd you make this so difficult?

Now, it's happening again on my brand new 27" iMac. Every time I restart and bring up the dashboard, my weather widget loads and then jumps down a quarter of an inch or so on the screen. How can I stop this from happening and why hasn't Apple fixed this after 2 years?

After my move, and updating my desktop mailbox to IMAP, I don't receive any mails sent to @mac.com, only those sent to @me.com. (And any mails sent to aliases are not receieved either.) I have bought a macbook pro in the late 2009.. and its sudden motion sensor is repositioned (in version 5.3) and it works in the other way around.. when i try with programs that use the sensor to make sth.. like when you move right, the things going upwards.. and when you move in the y direction things are moving in the x direction..

Here's what I have so far (which I'm sure is way off base)Â
1) Folder action receives files and folders added to "Images"
2) Filter finder items - Find files where ALL of the following is true: Kind is ANY
3) New Folder - Name is "_" Where: "Images"
4) Add Date or Time to Finder Item Names: Add Date to folder name
5) Move Finder Items: This is the step that I'm stuck on. I don't know how indicate the newly created folder in step 3Â
Another question I have is how to make automator check to see if there's already a subfolder with the current date and put the file in that subfolder instead of creating a new subfolder with a duplicate name.Â

I downloaded a beta test recently, now it's finished I have the folder sitting in my Applications folder, but it won't let me drag it out into the trash. I've logged in as an Administrator, changed my regular ID to have Admin status, none of it works. I've got the CCleaner app from the App Store, same issue. It tells me I need to be an Admin to uninstall files, but even when I log in as the Admin, it gives me the same message.
