When I first got my Mac I wanted to put the applications folder in the dock. But I copied it to the desktop first. And then I realized I didn't need to do that. So I put the folder back into the App folder. Now I want to delete them and I need to know if it's okay. Because they seem to be duplicates...but I'm not sure.

i Have over 40 gigs of files in my downloads folder (a lot of which is music) Is it safe to delete this folder? should i do something first? get an app to do it for me?

While going through my files to check what I don't need or want, I noticed that I have a folder called Previous Systems. Inside this folder are two other folders with dates for names. Each folder has approximately 20 GB for a total of 40 GB. Can I simply toss this folder? It does not seem to do anything. The folder must have been created from a backup some time ago. I don't recall doing that.

So I went back to my old Mac Mail and added them into Address Book. I then exported Address Book contacts as a "save as" different name, then imported into iCloud address. So in my 'Adobe Acrobat X Pro' folder I have this app called 'Acrobat Distiller'. Google says that its used when you work with postscripts files and want to convert them to pdf. Does anyone know if Distiller is used for something else? I only work with pdf files, so I was wondering if it was safe to delete Distiller. And if I delete it, does anyone know if I will have problems when there is an update for Acrobat, maybe it will complain about missing files?
View 3 Replies View RelatedSo I have created a video presentation for a project I am working on using Final Cut Pro. I noticed Final Cut Pro creates a default folder in Documents called "Final Cut Pro Documents." This folder contains six additional folders:
1. Audio Render Files
2. Autosave Vault
3. Capture Scratch
4. Render Files
5. Thumbnail Cache Files
6. Waveform Cache Files
Is it safe to delete these six folders? I wouldn't otherwise care, but collectively they are taking up 25 GB on my HD. I'm not planning to delete the actual FCP project files and their attached media, but rather the above six folders which appear to be cache? Do I run any risk of losing my entire presentation if I delete these six folders, or is it simply a matter of just re rendering my project if I delete them?
I have all my photos in folders, and I guess I must have imported some of them into iPhoto a while back because I just found a 2 GB "iPhoto Library" file. I don't actually use iPhoto at all, so I'd much rather use the 2 GB for something I actually use If I deleted that file, is there a chance I'd lose actual photos? All the photos are still located in the original folders, not any special iPhoto folders.

View 1 Replies View RelatedWhile getting iTunes ready for my new iPhone tonight I found something strange. I have duplicates showing up in playlists that ARE NOT duplicates in my Music library.
For example, in my Library I show to have 9 albums, 104 items and 892.4MB of Bruce Springsteen.
I created a new Playlist called iPhone 4. This playlist will of course be used for my new device. I'm moving from 16GB to 32GB so I can double the amount of music on my iPhone. Well in that iPhone 4 playlist Bruce Springsteen shows to have 9 albums and 149 songs and 1.22GB. There are several duplicates in there of songs. There are also several others artists with similiar results.
I guess my question is, how can there be duplicates in the playlist, if they are not showing as duplicates in my Library?
itunes has decided to go all wierd on me and started playing some of my songs but not playing others. When i try to play one that will not play i get the apple logo on the top of the screen where the amount of time your into the song is normally shown and no matter how many times i press play nothing happens.
Also the songs that won't play all are coming from the same folder and when i delete them and try to add them to the library nothing happens and they aren't added. When i try to play the songs from that folder using a program other than itunes the songs play fine.
I am new to Automator, and even though I have been tinkering around with it for about an hour, I can't seem to create an action.
What I want to do is have Automator automatically take the contents of a specific folder on my hard drive, print the contents of the folder (usually PDFs), then delete the files. I use dropbox, so when I place a pdf into this folder from my laptop on the go, it would be nice to come home to it printed, and no longer in the folder taking up space.
In my Applications Folder I have an alias Applications Folder.When I deleted the alias folder it wiped out all my applications on my hard drive.Does anyone know how I can delete the alias folder without deleting all my Applications?

I tunes imported vid files that I had on my hd last year, now, I decided that I didn't want these in ITunes, so I deleted them from ITunes. I then burned all of these files to a DVD and then deleted them from my downloads folder where they were always kept. Today I noticed that deep within ITunes, there is a folder called ITunes music and in that folder there is a sub folder called movies, where I discovered duplicates of the vid files I had previously deleted from my downloads folder which were imported by ITunes last year. I didn't know this could happen in ITunes!
View 1 Replies View RelatedI was helping a friend by reformatting his pc and reinstalling windows because it was slow, when I was downloading the drivers for it on my MacBook Pro (didn't have access to the router since it's downstairs and his pc didn't have a wireless card), it downloaded a folder filled with locked files, it comes several folders deep and all of the files are locked, fun. So I tried to delete it using sudo rm -r, but it says I don't have sufficient privileges, anyone know a command I can use to delete it all? I'd rather not do it by hand, that'd take forever.

Is it safe to clear my downloads folder? Basically, it has become very large (~20gb). I want to create some more space because my hard drive is partitioned. Basically, what I'm wondering is, if, for example someone sends me a song. I play the song through itunes. Doesn't the song then get copied into an iTunes folder? Assuming it does, does that mean there is a duplicate file in the downloads folder as in the iTunes folder? Otherwise, do I have to manually go through my downloads folder and decide whats needed and whats not?
