Yesterday, a game that I used to play often, (a board game,so not cpu intensive and at least 5 yrs old) recently started crashing on startup. I guess my HD was full and I started getting error messages, then it would not start at all. I cleaned the disk with onyx, restarted, etc. It does not have a preferences file that I can tell.

My finder/computer crashes at least once or twice a day when the Time Machine backups start (there are other times where the backup will go fine). I am using a MacBook Pro, 2011 2.2 GHz i7 with 8GB of Ram. I have a 64 GB Samsung SSD drive I use for startup and applications, and a 700 GB SSD/7500 hybrid drive mounted in the Superdrive bay for docs/music/etc. Â
I have a 1TB WD HDD connected via USB I use for Time Machine. Looks like there might be something amis when I am using Chrome and Time Machine in the superdrive bay SSD/HDD setup? Also some software update errors were being thrown just before the crash too.Â

For the past year or more, every time that a program crashes while I'm working in it, it gives me a dialog box saying "Would you like to submit report details to Apple?" I click the button to submit the report and every time it returns with an error message saying "Submission failed - Unable to submit report". Its not a big deal to me, but I always thought it might be helpful to Apple to receive the reports. Always worked a in the years past, but not any more.

I've been trying to install various builds of snow leopard on my mac pro with no success (latest is 10a380). I start the installer, choose an install partition, click on 'install', the install window comes up, telling me the installation should take 'around 45 minutes'.
It copies a load of files to the hard drive, then about five minutes later the machine re-starts, and I am dumped back into my normal leopard installation. If I look at the discs I'm installing to I see a 'Mac OS X. install data' folder containing a lot of .pkgs, and that's as far as it ever progresses.
I've tried booting up directly from the install DVD, and this never works either: it always dumps me back into my normal leopard installation.All the disks I've been trying to install to are GUID formatted, permissions repaired, etc.Anyone got any ideas what can be going on?
This update has totaled anything having to do with Safari, Mail starts and retrieves but I can't read mail. Anything that uses Safari browsing engine is screwed.

I came back from work to wake up my iMac. It made the noise but the screen stayed black. I tried restarting by holding the power button- I can hear it start and the chime but still have a black screen. I tried resetting the pram, and unplugging the cord but I still get a black screen. I can hear the chime though; I'm not sure if that means anything. I just had the hard drive replaced in February so I hope it's not that. just wanted to clarify that when I restart, I get the chime but the screen stays black- I don't get to the grey screen. So I'm assuming right now that my display may be shot?

I finally got through the printer issue by re-loading a driver, but after removing and re-loading Word, I still have issues. I've repaired permissions, verified the disk and I still find it crashes when calling up a file. This app is impossible to work with, so what to do next?
View 2 Replies View RelatedThe original problem was whenever I opened a new Finder window and began to type in the search bar, as soon as I got three letters in, the whole thing would crash on me. After some unsuccessful fix attempts, now Finder no longer opens from the dock icon its supposed to. When I click on the icon, a new one with the default App icon opens at the end of the dock, and it works from there. The search problem also only appears when opening a finder window directly from the dock. If Finder opens to, say, allow me to choose a file to upload to a website, search doesn't crash on me. Spotlight still works correctly.
I tried to delete/reset the prefrences, but when I go to the folder, the preference list for Finder isn't there. I tried removing all the preferences and restartting just in hopes it would help, but it didn't solve anything. I've also repaired disk permissions using the disk utility, but that seems to have created the new problem.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI just downloaded the 10a380 build of snow leopard, and burned it using disk utility to a DL DVD. The burn completed successfully and the computer recognizes it. Every time I click on Install, it opens the installer and I press continue.. it says "Finding Disks" with a blue progression bar for about 30 seconds, and then exits the installer. I even rebooted the computer, holding down option, and when it gets to the screen with different partitions, the disk ejects itself. I have bootcamp with windows 7 installed if that makes any sort of difference.

Since I hooked up a new external hard drive as a TM backup, my computer crashes constantly. And I mean constantly. I never had this problem with my previous external drive, which eventually failed.Â
If I unplug the new drive, the computer works perfectly. Having spent $$$ on a 1TB drive, I don't want to buy yet another one.Â
I did notice that the drive has USB 3.0 on the bottom ID label. I'm using USB 2.0. Does USB 3.0 require a special port because my 2007 Mac Mini doesn't have one as far as I know.Â

I waited a long time to upgrade my MacBook to Snow Leopard, mostly because I didn't really need any of the speed increases or other updates, and because I remained concerned about having new bugs in my system. I was always happy with Leopard and never had any issues. I finally did upgrade to SL, and iCal is giving me hell. Its tough to explain the problems that its causing. Basically, the boxes get out of alignment (see attached screenshot), then stuff disappears, sometimes will come back if I click forward a month and then back. If I do this more than one or two times, it just straight up crashes. It is incredibly frustrating. Has anyone else run into similar iCal issues? I feel like a calendar program is one of the more straightforward things Apple has to work on, so I am really surprised that out of everything, this is the biggest upgrade problem I have run into.

Installed Snow Leopard on my 1st gen Mac Pro and had nothing but trouble: random crashes and re-boots that have gotten so bad that now it crashes during boot up. Part way through the spinny wheel you get after the boot-up Apple logo either half the screen goes orange (!) and it crashes, or the centre of the screen corrupts and it crashes or I get the multi-lingual grey screen of death. Same happens if I boot from the Snow Leopard DVD. Pretty unhappy as you can imagine: can anyone suggest anything? I've tried re-seating the graphics card , blowing out the dust and I've rotated all the memory: makes no difference.
View 21 Replies View RelatedA few months ago I had a problem with my Macbook Pro, (late 2009 model, 15" 2.53 ghz) that many users with Snow Leopard have, the random 30 second freezes. I simply reset the PRAM and SMC and I never encountered it again. Now, out of the blue, on Sunday (yesterday), I started experiencing these hangs again, but worse. The night before I had been browsing the web and my battery went to reserve and shut down, so I plugged it in and when I awoke and turned it on I started experiencing problems. I figured I would try the same fix, and it almost seemed to make the problem worse. Now if I shut down the computer via "apple -> shut down", then turn it back on and log in etc., from the first few seconds the machine hangs. If I open a folder I get the immediate beach-ball and the machine is un-responsive for anywhere from 1 minute - 5+ minutes.
I have read a lot of fixes for this problem, but most of the people's problems resulted from using Safari or Spotlight. I strictly use Firefox and very rarely even open Safari, and I think I've used Spotlight maybe 3 times total, none in the past few months. So far the things I've tried are:
- Reset PRAM
- Reset SMC
- Run Disc Utility and verify, repair etc. (from SL install disc)
So I'm wondering right now what can I do? Its finals week right now and im in college so wiping my HD is not an option. I feel like there is just something hanging the computer but I can't find the culprit.
Where are the up dates for Leopard? Why Does my brand new Mac Pro crash daily? Why does Apple release software that is not stable? How do I fix this problem of leopard constantly crashing after I force quit an application? I'm losing $1000's because of this stupid faulty system. Who's up for a class action lawsuit? This is not fair to consumers who spend good hard earned money on a new computer only to get a faulty Operating system that runs worse than windows. Screw you steve jobbs. This needs to get taken care of now and Apple doesn't offer any outlets. This seems like a planned faulty release and Apple needs to fix it or give us our money back. I need at least 2000 people to follow in a class action law suit.
View 2 Replies View RelatedWindows and other SMB users can no longer connect to 10.6.8 Server Mac Mini. SMB service is "running" in Server Manager, and all settings look correct, and haven't changed since November 2011. Restarting the service doesn't fix it. I'm not a samba expert, so I don't know what to do. Googling the pdb_get_methods_reload error yields all sorts of things, but I'm hesitant to try any of them as I don't want to disrupt any of the other services.Â
