Since I hooked up a new external hard drive as a TM backup, my computer crashes constantly. And I mean constantly. I never had this problem with my previous external drive, which eventually failed.
If I unplug the new drive, the computer works perfectly. Having spent $$$ on a 1TB drive, I don't want to buy yet another one.
I did notice that the drive has USB 3.0 on the bottom ID label. I'm using USB 2.0. Does USB 3.0 require a special port because my 2007 Mac Mini doesn't have one as far as I know.

I tried updating it and all, i've also tried repairing the disk but it still crash when i go to youtube. firefox does it as well. i tried downloading google chrom but unfortunately it's not compatible with 10.4. the following is the report in safari crash.

I am encountering the problems 9 out of 10 times when I am watching a video on youtube in fullscreen. The problem seems to be when I use fullscreen.... It also crashes when on other sites watching videos, but I use youtube daily.. After it crashes, I need to quit safari first and then restart safari for internet to work again, otherwise I need to wait 1 till a few minutes for it gets to my homepage and internet works again.
I tried reinstalling safari, reinstalling flashplayer and resetting safari, but with no luck. Don't know if it will do any good, but I am on the first MB aluminum unibody, using Safari 5.0.1 (6533.17.8) and I think flashplayer 10.6
I wanted to add the error, but it is to long. If someone want to look at it, I am happy to send it through email or whatever is handy....
I am on an older computer system OX 10.4.11 and safari has made my computer unusable it crashes everytime I try to do anything especially when I try to watch a youtube movie and/or even try to open a youtube account. I have tried to suggestions on the forum i.e. clean up cache, reset safari, clean up cookies, etc., etc. but my computer still crashes with Safari. I tried to upload the 4.1.3 which I understand is the newest version my computer can take and reboot my computer but again safari crashes and I cannot get into youtube.

Safari has been crashing for me every time I open it. It's mostly on sites like YouTube, which leads me to believe that it's a flash problem. When I open the page it just freezes up and the pinwheel just keeps spinning and spinning. I noticed these problems on my MacBook after I upgraded to Snow Leopard, and now they are arising again on my recently purchased Mac Pro (also running SL). I'm running latest version of SL, Safari, and Flash.

Safari doesn't reload fast and crashes / hangs frequently. Youtube takes a long time to load and when it's up, the visuals, audio are jerky. Vimeo hardly loads up. This machine is only about a month old and it acts up sluggishly. Some other programs running are slow too.

I've been fighting bad sleep crashes for over a year. Sometimes it would freeze when it started sleep, sometimes when trying to wake from a sleep. I've spent countless hours researching the problem, reading everything on the boards. I tried resetting the PMU, turning off Bluetooth, removing all USB, and all of the other suggestions. Nothing alleviated the problem. Last week I replaced the lithium battery on the mother board because it wasn't keeping the correct time. So far it is sleeping and waking perfectly for the first time in ages. No more freezes or jet engine fans. I have my fingers crossed. Power Mac G5 dual 2 GHz, purchased June, 2003

Safari crashes randomly, meaning that it sometimes is running in the beackground and I am not doing anything with it. It seems that this problem only exists since I have done the following changes: I updated the Adobe Flash Player and I downloaded and installed Minecraft for Mac (I did not play it, since I forgot it was not for free ^^).

So I'm new in this forum and I've got a HUGE problem with Youtube and my iBook G4 that started recently.
Whenever I enter to Youtube and start loading any video, the system crashes, not only Safari but any application that is open at the time.
I've uninstalled and installed Flash Player, updated the system and Safari as well as tried using another browser (Firefox) with no results.
When I disable Javascript from Safari the system does not crash and another thing I noticed is that I can watch embedded videos on other pages but not directly on Youtube.
All of the sudden my web browser (doesn't matter which one i use, I've tried firefox 3.5.3, firefox 3.0.9 and latest safari) crashes every time i visit youtube. As soon as I enter the site, the beach ball shows up and I have to force quit the browser. I have the latest version of flash. I'm not really sure what could be causing this and was wondering if anybody has had a similar problem and knows a fix.
View 2 Replies View RelatedIt happens about once a day now with Safari. Sometimes it causes my MBP to crash. I know all the controversy about Apple and Flash, but is it this common? I do have the latest versions of Flash and Safari, but is the problem this ubiquitous or is there probably something I'm doing wrong with my 1 year old 13" MBP (4 GB RAM, 2.26 Ghz, 250GB)
View 8 Replies View RelatedI'm a new to the mac world, having recently got a new 15" MBP with the Core i5 Processor.I've found some very strange behaviour that I'm trying to get to the bottom of, if anyone can help? When I have a torrent client running (utorrent or transmission), I get frequent HTTP timeouts in firefox and Safari. This happens regardless of whether the torrent client is actually transferring data. When I click on a link, in firefox I can see "connecting to www.google.com" for a long time - sometimes the link loads, sometimes it just times out. This happens 80%+ of the time.
View 3 Replies View RelatedHowever Safari is causing all kinds of hangs restarts kernal panics overheating with my machine and yet if I use google chrome for the exact same web sites these same problems are not present. I much prefer to be able to keep using safari and I realise that I haev not got the most up to date software since Lion is not supported on my machine but it is as up todate as snow leaopard allows.
I also realize that a more than 5 year old machine is doing very well especially since it is rarely off. It has outlasted 2 timecapsules and countless airport express but the anomyly between 2 browsers is weird. I doubt this has a solution but maybe the odd apple tech who read this might find it a challenge to know why one browser causes heart issues but another doesn't.

Lately, every time I open Safari the computer heats up and the fan blows continuously. This doesn't happen for Chrome, so I've had to use Chrome exclusively lately.
In Activity Monitor, Safari Networking has an energy impact of 100 and Average Energy Impact of 77, which Safari has an Average Energy Impact of 162. Chrome is at 11.

An odd problem that has recurred on two of the installations of Snow Leopard I've had on my 27" iMac is that for some odd reason, using Spotlight will cause a slow system death.
View 1 Replies View RelatedAfter installing SL yesterday on my iMac, after a few hours, my right/down arrows began "activating" and repeating. At first I thought it was only happening in Finder, but it just came out of sleep while in Safari and was repeating the Submarine echo like crazy. I've restarted and also unplugged the keyboard thinking maybe it just some random error, but nothing. The only "cure" seems to be actually tapping the down/right arrow keys while the glitch is happening.
UPDATE: I'm in the middle of re-installing snow leopard and I used a hot corner to turn the monitor off and about 10 seconds in, the repeating key began again and monitor popped back on. wtf?!
Since I installed Snow Leopard I have an annoying bug when I have Growl and Firefox installed. When I start up Firefox, the windows isn't on focus (window is kind of in the background). On Leopard I started Firefox and immeditatly I could press cmd+L to write the homepages. With SL I need to click first into the Firefox window because it wasn't on focus after starting up. This weird behaviour only appears when I have Growl installed, if i deactivate Growl, Firefox starts on focus, but since I need Firefox AND Growl, this annoys me a lot..
Could anybody of you who also uses SL, Firefox and Growl test if the Firefox window is on focus after starting the app, ? I tried it on 3 different Macs and all of them have the same bug. :-( I already wrote to the Growl and the Firefox team, but until now both of them say it's the other apps fault...
I've been having a problem with Firefox crashing recently. On Mozilla's forum, someone suggested that corrupted fonts can cause apps to crash. I opened Font Book to check on this. I was able to find and disable one font that Font Book listed as corrupted. However, there's another font that I think is corrupted but can't do anything about. Just clicking on the font in the Font Book window causes Font Book itself to crash! Is there any other way to disable this font (matura management capitals)? Can I just delete it from the Font folder in finder?

Are others experiencing this? I'm having issue getting a good solid answer after googling for quite a while. Some of the threads I have read also lead to no end result.
When I watch any videos, no matter what it is, after about 2 minutes my black macbook heats up and then run at fan speeds of 3600-4800rpm and it's super annoying and hot. As soon as I turn off the video, it cools down back to 1800 RPM and runs at 62 degrees. Sooooo odd.
I went to the genius bar and the guy there said that it is probably due to the fact that Snow Leopard takes advantage of the dual-core processor. I don't understand why it needs to utilize this processor where as it never had an issue on leopard before I upgraded.
I've also read that reloading the OS doesn't seem to help. Is this a common issue? Should I go back to Leopard?
I've only noticed that expose` is a little bit fancier on SL but other than that, I do not notice much of anything that is different.
I have an IMac. When I am in mail and type a word incorrect I get an alert sound. I do not get the red dashed line. I have looked all over Preferences. What am I missing? This is annoying. If I do a manual spell check of a document then it still does not underline misspelled words. I tested it in Textedit as well. No red line under the words.
View 1 Replies View RelatedOn Youtube there used to be a Subscription bar that would have all the recent video's by the people you have subscribed to in and you could skip to the next video in your subscription etc. Now it seems to have gone for me though and I don't see any way for skipping to the next video in your subscription without going back and clicking on subscriptions then choosing the video. Is it the same for everybody else or has anyone still got the subscription bar there?

View 8 Replies View RelatedSince yesterday, Youtube hasn't been working for me when I use Safari.
If I click on a video, the comments and everything will load, but the spot where the video itself should be playing is just a black screen. Researching this problem, it seems that it's usually a firefox issue, but I'm having it on Safari.
Youtube is working on Firefox, so it's not just Youtube being down or something. Also, I can't see embedded videos from Youtube on forums or anything.
Things I've tried and have failed:
- Resetting Safari (clearing cookies/cache)
- Logging out of Youtube
- Resetting my computer
- Turning off my ad blocker
- Changing my I.P. (probably stupid, but just in case I got super banned from youtube somehow)
there is not audio in safari, it plays the video but the audio its not working, and its only in safari because Itried with Chromo and it worked

Since I've upgraded to Safari 5.1.5 YouTube videos take forever to load, or never load at all.I do not see this problem in Chrome or Firefox.I've tried deleting my Flash Cookies (read online that it could help), but it hasn't changed anything.Anyone have ideas as to what's preventing YouTube videos from loading quickly as they have done in the past?I like Safari, and hope to continue using it; but at the moment it's simply unusable for my needs.
