my used eMac 1.42 ghz with 2gb ram, tiger 10.4.11 began to freeze a few months ago so I cleared the hard drive and reinstalled = worked ok for a while. Now, it is regularly freezing and even locking up when it has been running for a while - when it heats up. Until it cools off a while, on restart or after shutdown, it will hang at the grey screen or display a flashing folder with an alternating finder icon and a question mark - I assume it can't find the OS. After rebooting, I got the report function with this info

Bought a new Macbook Pro 2.8 a few days ago (newest one with longer battery), it shipped with Snow Leopard. However, I believe the Hardware is still the same as before Snow Leopard was released, so it should work with Leopard 10.5.
If I try to use a Leopard disc it just doesn't boot, or it comes up with a kernel panic. I even installed Leopard on my 2.5" in my Mac Pro first, then tried booting it on the macbook pro. Same thing, kernel panic. Have they added some kind of lock to the hardware that stops Leopard from being loaded? I thought they would only do that when new hardware is released.

Every time I boot up, the computer goes immediately to this screen: In short, I was running leopard, and installed 10.6. Caused problems with Word and system fonts, so I called Applecare, who were of no help and basically told me to contact Microsoft to get the problem fixed. I decided just to do an Archive and Install of 10.5, so that I'd at least have my working system back and in order. Did that, and was going through and drag/dropping folders from the "Previous Systems" folder into my new one on the recently installed 10.5 setup, and the computer froze while some of the library files were transferring. I powered down, and it KP's after time I attempt to turn it back on.

I've got a Powermac G5 desktop. I recently purchased a used keyboard for it off of Ebay. The computer was working fine with just a mouse. Shortly after the keyboard was plugged in, I got a kernel panic, and had to restart. I restarted, and immediately got a message saying "you need to restart your computer", and followed by another kernel panic.
Now, I get a kernel panic and "restart your computer" message, even if the keyboard is unplugged.
I was planning to do a clean install of OS X anyway, and figured that since the computer is completely useless at this point, now would be a pretty good time to go ahead and do it. So I tried to boot from the install CD by inserting the CD and holding down the 'C' key. No result -- it doesn't show me the "boot menu", and instead proceeds as usual, to it's "Restart your computer" message and subsequent kernel panic.
So I then tried rebooting and holding down the "Option" key, and managed to get to the boot menu. I selected "Mac OS X Install Disc 1" and clicked the "--->" button ... kernel panic again.
I'm at a complete loss for what to do next. Any help with this would be much appreciated. All I want to do is reinstall OS X.
How can there be a kernel panic from the boot CD? Apple didn't make it where it tries to use the kernel from disk during install did they?
I'm coming from a Linux background, and am not at all familiar with OS X, so forgive me if I've left information out that I should have included. Please let me know if this is the case, and I'll do what I can to provide it for you.

I am in the process of buying a hard drive for a PowerMac G4 that i just purchased. The computer doesn't have a DVD drive, just a CD. I have a copy of Tiger that could be installed but I would need a DVD drive. Would I be better off buying a cheap copy of Panther online somewhere and just using that, or buying a DVD drive and installing Tiger? Or finding another way to install one or the other on my Mac?

I had the hard drive replaced in in my mid 2009 17" MacBook pro. After the clean install of lion I migrated my data from time machine (lion) to the new clean partition.. Upon completion the machine is unresponsive. The progress wheel turning for 10 minutes. I force quit and restart to kernel panic. I have been through this 3 times same sequence of events same results.

On an G4 iBook I was wondering what advangtes running Tiger over Panther are. I maxed out the RAM to have a total of 1.12 GB. I am running Tiger now but it slows down if I fire up more than 5 apps at the same time. I was thinking Panther would run better. All I do is internet, email, word processing, spreadsheets, listening to music and playing old games.

tell me which version of the MacMini is able to run either Panther OS and which does Tiger.
I'm thinking of buying either a used or new MacMini for one purpose. I need to set up a local test webserver, I don't wanna do it on my main system cause there's a chance it'll make the OS unstable for general uses.

since buying my mbp, my powerbook has become pretty much redundant for anything other than word processing and internet use, at the moment its super slow because it has virtually no hd space left, so i have backed up, and want to reinstall the os, clean it up a bit and get it running the internet superfast to use when i am travelling, keeping my mbp on my desk for the rest of the time. I have a copy of both panther and tiger that came with the powerbook (i bought it a week before tiger came out and apple sent me it for free!), but it is currently running panther. now its a stock powerbook 12" 1.5 Ghz with 512 ram, and it wont need to run anything too complex: just word/safari/idvd/itunes, however it would be nice to have dashboard (i have got used to it on my mbp), but not essential.
I don't want to spend any more money on this thing, but want to know which would be faster...i have heard that tiger puts more strain on ram, but also that powerbooks run faster with tiger than with panther...which of these statements is true?

I might be getting a iMac G3 (for surfing and maybe itunes) and I was wondering if I should put tiger or panther on it? I had tiger on my iMac G4 before it died and I loved it. I was used to leopard before though (my imac G6). I don't know the processors or anything yet... but since I'm getting two of them for free I'm not really complaining. How much iMac G3 suck. I think they are adorable

Is an "Erase and install" really that complicated. I don't have enough free space on my HD to do an "archive and install". I want to keep all my old Apps but dont have any of the installation CD's as all the apps were all on the computer when its was given to me.

I am attempting to load tiger onto my 12 inch PowerBook G4. The installation cd runs up to the first part when it asks you to restart. Then after the restart it up and comes up with a error message 'unable to find driver for this platform: "PowerBook6,4".' This is not the complete message as it is to long to type out. I have tried every thing I can think of fsck, repairing permissions, removing an after market ram and I have tried lots else.

I am just starting a new job and have been getting extreme speed issues on my computer followed by this recent kernel panic. I am running 4 2 TB G Speeds through eSATA. My computer went down, when I brought it back up Final Cut Pro took 5-10 minutes just to simply open. I wasn't even attempting to open a certain project. Any ideas based on the attached Kernel report? [code]

I'm getting a kernel panic at start up and the optical drive wont read the start up DVD. I can boot up windows via bootcamp and the machine runs fine. I'm not getting any red LED's on my risers, so i'm assuming its not a RAM issue. I have a Mac Pro 8-core (2008) stock, just added 10 gigs of RAM.

For the past few days (never happened before) my apps started crashing continuously and kernel panic screen started appearing very frequently. I am still wondering what may be the cause of it, then I tested my RAM with Rember, and this log showed up:

I get kernel panics after a few min's of running the Mac pro. The ram are perfectly paired (2x 4gb in both slots, both in the first 2) and I get issues with it it seems. It started to happen as of today but didn't happen the days before. Nothing was changed in the configs or software.

I recently got a Dell 2209WA with built in USB hub. and great i thought, i can manage the USB ports on my macbook a bit more effectively. But it seems when i pull the USB cable when i want to go portable, it gets a KP, at the moment i suspect it has something to do with the logitech wireless adaptor i have plugged into the monitor. it exhibits these issues when the monitor is turned off as well.
I have another USB hub, but i pretty much use it exclusively for my external hard drives (i don't really like to keep it plugged in all the time, if powered up for some reason the drives spin up in the middle of the night even when the macbook is sleeping) and it does nothing like this when the adaptor is plugged into that.

I've had two of these in less than 24 hours on this new machine. I was able to work in Photoshop and Aperture fine, but the minute I started watching Hulu videos I started getting these. Oddly enough. I zapped PRAM and repaired permissions, and haven't had another one yet... but should I just take it back now while I'm still in my 14 days?
Here is the log:

Happy for my macbook pro for almost two years. Lately it's been unstable and freezes sometimes. Two days ago it went to kernal panic and shows kernal panic screen and asks for restart everytime it restarts. It won't start on DVD or safe mode (it just hangs there and keeps spinning). For single user mode, it first worked and I was able to remove login items, but it froze again and now generates the following panic log. All the hardware have been the same and I have installed vpn a few months ago and dropbox last week.
Jettinsoning kernel linker.
Resetting IOCatalogue.

I'm trying to get OSX installed onto my new intel x25-m SSD, but it just won't happen. Trying to boot from my install DVD that came with my new Mac Pro throws up a kernel panic after about a minute or two of loading.
Trying to boot from my store-bought Leopard DVD does nothing. After restarting it just sits there and the DVD stops spinning after a couple minutes. Is there another way I can turn my new SSD into the boot drive? This is driving me nuts.
