View 12 RepliesThe "new mail sound" in Mail.app is still very sporadic. When new e-mails arrive in the inbox, the sound signaling that a new message has arrived only works less than half of the time. This was the same problem in 10.5.1. (White 17" iMac C2D 2.0, 3 gb ram) [URL]

I'm currently using a macbook pro 17" 10.5.8 / Unlike windows os, it alerts you in many occasion, for example: low battery, usb device inserted, etc. and you can change the alert sound for everyting in the control panel, sound, option.
so basically,
how do I do the same thing on mac?
do i need to install additional software? if yes.. any suggestion?
I began hearing a sound about every minute that I assume is some kind of alert or notification that something needs attention but I can't determine what it is. It sounds like a single pick of a guitar string. I recently downloaded an upgrade to microsoft office but can't recall if it began right after that or not.

What's the default alert sound in snow leopard?
I know it's a dumb question, but I've recently noticed that my mac has been making the most annoying sound quite frequently (i.e. basso). Just wondering what the default was as I'm fairly sure it hasn't always made this sound.
I just noticed that my ichat sound when I am in a video chat has disappeared. Its been missing for like 4 days during video chatting. If I am iming someone I don't get an sound alert to know they have sent me a message I get the number but I don't get the popping sound that you get when your iming and also in video chat and it all of a sudden stopped working. Its not the regular sound when iming its like a "pop".

My new MacBook Pro runs perfectly. However, it makes the "funk" alert sound effect on a random basis and it is getting pretty annoying. Why is this happening? I am apparently not the only user experiencing this issue, but they did not identify the sound as being one of the built-in sounds.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have an IMac. When I am in mail and type a word incorrect I get an alert sound. I do not get the red dashed line. I have looked all over Preferences. What am I missing? This is annoying. If I do a manual spell check of a document then it still does not underline misspelled words. I tested it in Textedit as well. No red line under the words.

For a long time now, Apple Mail has not been playing any sound when new mail arrives (the other Mail sounds still work.) Doesn't matter which sound I have enabled, or what schedule I select, silence. Checked com.apple.mail.plist and my selection seems to be there, dunno why it is not working. What can I do to bring back New Mail Sound?

Under Snow Leopard, I used the same Applescripts (fired off by iCal) which turned on/off Mail's New Mail Sound depending on the time of day, i.e. I set the new mail sound to be "Silent Alert" in the evening and restored it to my default new mail alert in the morning. Any guidance as to what might be wrong and how to solve this problem would be very welcome. Â

I can't figure this out. A few days ago noticed iChat and Mail were not making any sounds when they were supposed to. I double-checked the settings a few times and everything was right, sound events were suppose to take place. I restarted and it resolved the problem.
Now, a few days later, I'm having the same problem.
I'm not getting email notification sounds when I get an email in mail. I have tried changing the sounds. My updates are current. I'm using 10.5.4, and it used to work. I get all other sounds except the new mail sounds. Can someone help Apple Care is useless in helping me with this. I have a macbook running the same OS and every thing with the same sound, and it works just fine everytime.

Mail does not notify me by giving me the "Ping" sound when new mail has arrived. I actually usually know new emails have arrived by my iPhone making the "Ping" Sound. Right now I am in Safari, but mail is running in the dock (I clicked the red X button). - - Just for reference of how I am using Mail usually.

I have updated everything very recently.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have had my MBP for about 6 months now and decided to treat myself to a game. Being a fan of C&C and Red Alert, I thought I would try the new Red Alert 3 game. I am using the game with the built in trackpad. The problems occured on working out the controls. I have worked out how to use the right mouse function but I am struggling with the following:
ROTATE CAMERA - In the main menu, I go to 'Tutorials', then 'Intro into the Basics', and then I get started with the tutorial. After about the second or third tutorial prompt it talks you through how to rotate the camera using the middle mouse button. MBP do not have a middle mouse button. I have tried every combination of keyboard functions and nothing works.
Can somebody out there help get me through this stage and tell me what I need to press for the middle mouse button function on a MBP?
