I want to find the sound files because I want to convert them to wav to use as mail alert sounds for Thunderbird which I use instead of Mail, and don't know where to find the files. Â

What's the default alert sound in snow leopard?
I know it's a dumb question, but I've recently noticed that my mac has been making the most annoying sound quite frequently (i.e. basso). Just wondering what the default was as I'm fairly sure it hasn't always made this sound.
I have an IMac. When I am in mail and type a word incorrect I get an alert sound. I do not get the red dashed line. I have looked all over Preferences. What am I missing? This is annoying. If I do a manual spell check of a document then it still does not underline misspelled words. I tested it in Textedit as well. No red line under the words.

If any of you recall, in System 7, you could double-click a sound file and it would just play without launching an app. The OS itself was capable of playing sounds, like system sounds or even music files (you could also use QuickTime). This was pre-iTunes. I miss those days. The other day, I was trying out some sound effects, and double-clicking them launched the behemoth bloatware app, iTunes. Of course, I could pick another app, but I would prefer no app at all, i.e., system-level, ready-to-eat sounds; just click and it plays. Does anyone know of a system-level plug-in or background app that works in this way? An analogous system function would be clippings. Double-click one of those and it just pops up; no app launches. This is how System 7 worked, and I sorely miss it. I use sampled sounds a lot, and I just want to click on them to quickly hear what they sound like in that same simple way we once could.

In doing so, I did a lot of dragging from the backup to the new system not knowing how to restore and I did not want to bring this bug with the restore. So, here are my issues so far I am unable to resolve. Â

I just noticed that my ichat sound when I am in a video chat has disappeared. Its been missing for like 4 days during video chatting. If I am iming someone I don't get an sound alert to know they have sent me a message I get the number but I don't get the popping sound that you get when your iming and also in video chat and it all of a sudden stopped working. Its not the regular sound when iming its like a "pop".

iMac with 2Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo, 4GB RAM, plenty of space available and currently operating 10.5.8. Now I want to upgrade to Snow Leopard and since my Mac Mini came with it, I attempted to use the OSX install disc from the Mini in the iMac. I don't see a reason why this shouldn't work. There's no DRM or anything as far as I know. I'm just trying to bridge the gap so I can download Lion. I've looked into some of the advice others have given on this subject but my computer doesn't have those issues. I've tried booting from disc but I get the same message.

My HD on my macbook pro crashed and I did not have it backed up. I have the crashed drive connected to my other mac as an external drive and I am trying to get my mail files. I was using Mavericks on the crashed drive and I am trying to get them off onto a mac that has Mavericks too.
