View 3 RepliesI began hearing a sound about every minute that I assume is some kind of alert or notification that something needs attention but I can't determine what it is. It sounds like a single pick of a guitar string. I recently downloaded an upgrade to microsoft office but can't recall if it began right after that or not.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have had my MBP for about 6 months now and decided to treat myself to a game. Being a fan of C&C and Red Alert, I thought I would try the new Red Alert 3 game. I am using the game with the built in trackpad. The problems occured on working out the controls. I have worked out how to use the right mouse function but I am struggling with the following:
ROTATE CAMERA - In the main menu, I go to 'Tutorials', then 'Intro into the Basics', and then I get started with the tutorial. After about the second or third tutorial prompt it talks you through how to rotate the camera using the middle mouse button. MBP do not have a middle mouse button. I have tried every combination of keyboard functions and nothing works.
Can somebody out there help get me through this stage and tell me what I need to press for the middle mouse button function on a MBP?
The "new mail sound" in Mail.app is still very sporadic. When new e-mails arrive in the inbox, the sound signaling that a new message has arrived only works less than half of the time. This was the same problem in 10.5.1. (White 17" iMac C2D 2.0, 3 gb ram) [URL]
View 11 Replies View RelatedI have a Power Mac G4 Quicksilver 933Mhz running OS X 10.4.11. Ever since I upgraded from Vs. OS X 10.4, I have had problems with my browsers. When I boot up I get an alert message with a red sign that shows for about two or three quick seconds. I am not able to read what it states. Can someone tell me how to bring up this alert message. I think it might have something to do with how my browser is not functioning properly. I can't load up some pages with my Safari or FireFox browsers; I get a blank screen, but the URL shows up with some additional information. I also have a 2009 Mac Pro that does not have this problem with loading up web site pages.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI have a iMac g5 and have problems with MSN messenger. Since about 1 week, the sound alert when a contact in my list comes online, doesn't sound any longer. All the other sound alerts still work normally and all the alerts in MSN preference are activated and work when trying them out. I just did a complete reinstall of Leopard and only did the system update and installing the msn messenger and still, that same problem is there. Why is this happening? Is this a bug in msn that started recently?

I was wonder how to customize/add an option to say something like "1 day before (3:15PM)", so that I wouldn't have to re-enter it each time because I use this alert frequently, but not on every event. What's the default alert sound in snow leopard?
I know it's a dumb question, but I've recently noticed that my mac has been making the most annoying sound quite frequently (i.e. basso). Just wondering what the default was as I'm fairly sure it hasn't always made this sound.
All of a sudden my alert sounds (all the stock ones, no custom ones) are messed up. The one I use the most (Basso) just sounds like static now when it is triggered (e.g. backspacing at the prompt in terminal). Also, the individual .aiff files will not play in any player. Haven't been able to find anything remotely like this with extensive googling. System specs in signature. [edit] the "pop" sounds you get when you adjust the volume is stuffed up too!
View 4 Replies View RelatedOne of the features I mostly like about Little Snitch is the Alert Panel pop ups, which give me full control of what type of access is given to which applications. Here is the alert panel: I found that some users dislike it, and even some discussions were started on how to get rid of it. That's not my case today. My Little Snitch was working perfectly until I decided to upgrade my Macbook HD to a higher storage. I went to an authorized Mac store, which replaced the new HD into place and advised me to go back home and boot the MacBook with the installation disk pressing C.
Then, after installation, I chose to restore my files from the last Time Machine backup. However, after doing this it seemed that many applications including Little Snitch started to operate differently... as if I would be running them for the first time. So in addition to the automatic Time Machine restore, I went to a manual restore of applications and library items. When I tried to overwrite the files of Little Snitch on the Library folder, I was asked my Administrator password. Then after typing it, I received the message that I did not have sufficient administrator preferences................

I'm invited to a recurring event (a weekly meeting), which is an event sent by someone else that I accepted, so it shows up on my calendar. However, I can't seem to set an alert on it, so I either sometimes overlook the meeting start time or I have to create a whole new calendar event just so I can set an alert.

Installed Mavericks yesterday over Snow Leopard (10.6.8) and have had a host of problems that have paralysed my computer use. The most irritating problem has been that I use the glass chime for my calendar alert. Well, it won't stop ringing--it's like a button's depressed and stuck in that position. It renders the audio unusable now, which means no VOIP calling or audio of any kind as I'm forced to keep it on mute. My mouse is fluttering all over the place.

I have a 2008 macbook, out of warranty. My mac is running os x 10.6.4... I recently updated the laptop through the update section, and this is around the time the errors began. My next stop is perhaps reinstalling the operating system, but have to go out and buy the disc so thought i would check all options first.
It has begun random shutdowns recently, and i have tried checking the ram, checking power supply, removing battery to see if its caused by that, but so far nothing has come up. A mate of mine said sometimes you can work out the problem by looking at the logs to see what is causing the problem... Well, long story cut short,
the log is as follows from when i turned it on this afternoon, till the random shutdown, and then powering it back up again, i put the exact shutdown time in bold.

It started yesterday, and I am worried my computer has been hacked. For some background it is a 20" iMac running OSX 10.4. What is happening is when we start up Safari, mail, Firefox, etc we get a Network spyware alert box that pops up, and says the following for example when starting firefox: Firefox is attempting to connect to a server with the internet address xx.xxx.xx.xx(removed numbers due to not being sure if these should be kept secret). Then it says [URL] on port 80. Fire fox is not authorized to make this connection. Do you want to allow the connection,or block it? Program location:/applications/firefox.app It then has radio buttons with the following options:
O Apply until quits
O Apply today
O Apply once
O Apply always
On the right of those radio buttons are two boxes withthe following options:
Apply to all ports
Apply to all internet addresses
I am worried we may have been hacked, but I have no idea. I click on block when I get these pop-ups,and sometimes it will allow the program to work just fine, and sometimes not. Have we been hacked? What can I do to fix this? We do have a Allume netblockade program, but it has been on the computer for years, and only now has this problem come up.
