Aug 17, 2010I have a 2008 macbook, out of warranty. My mac is running os x 10.6.4... I recently updated the laptop through the update section, and this is around the time the errors began. My next stop is perhaps reinstalling the operating system, but have to go out and buy the disc so thought i would check all options first.
It has begun random shutdowns recently, and i have tried checking the ram, checking power supply, removing battery to see if its caused by that, but so far nothing has come up. A mate of mine said sometimes you can work out the problem by looking at the logs to see what is causing the problem... Well, long story cut short,
the log is as follows from when i turned it on this afternoon, till the random shutdown, and then powering it back up again, i put the exact shutdown time in bold.

Jul 31, 2009When I go to 'About this mac' > 'more info' and click on the SATA option, the optical drive makes a lot of noise (seemingly checking it's there every time). I also use an iMac at work and this doesn't happen - is it normal for the MBP to do this every time? It also does it at startup, plus takes 2 minutes minimum to quieten down after inserting a disc or asking the disc to do anything.

May 26, 2010Can a few folks comment on how long it takes for your screen to light up and to hear the optical drive make noise from the time you push the "On" button? I've seen a few videos and some comments here as well that it is nearly instantaneous and then the MBP goes into its boot cycle. I have an X25 SSD which boots me into my desktop in about 19 seconds from the button push BUT there is about a 5-6 second delay from the time I push the "On" button to any activity. Any ideas how to fix this (if it is, indeed, a problem)? Again, some other folks report instant activity.

Oct 21, 2010i have a 2 year old Silver Macbook 2.4 (i think!) anyway i havent touched it for ages because of a problem. It wont start up! If I am iming someone I don't get an sound alert to know they have sent me a message I get the number but I don't get the popping sound that you get when your iming and also in video chat and it all of a sudden stopped working. Its not the regular sound when iming its like a "pop".

Aug 28, 2009I couldn't wait any longer. I was going to wait until tomorrow, but I decided to test it out today. The following is a short video clip of the X25-M in action under Snow Leopard (on my late 2008 uMBP 2.53 GHz, 4 GB RAM).
It's not much of a benchmark. I simply selected everything in the Applications folder and hit open to start all the programs at the same time.
Needless to say, I am happy with the results!

OS X V10.6 Snow Leopard :: Spell Check Causing Alert Sound On IMac
May 11, 2012I have an IMac. When I am in mail and type a word incorrect I get an alert sound. I do not get the red dashed line. I have looked all over Preferences. What am I missing? This is annoying. If I do a manual spell check of a document then it still does not underline misspelled words. I tested it in Textedit as well. No red line under the words.
