OS X V10.6 Snow Leopard :: Mail Shows Number Of Unread Messages But No Messages?
Jun 30, 2012The Apple Mail on my son's iMac 5, running OS X 10.6.8, shows the number of unread messages (9), but if I click on InBox, the messages themselves don't show up in the main window. This suddenly happened, and none of his old, read messages show up either. But he can access them just fine from his iPod, or through his Network Solutions web mail interface. Also, in Mail we can search part of his email address, and all the messages show up, read and unread! He has no rules set up. The connection doctor shows the connection is fine.

Mar 21, 2012If any of you recall, in System 7, you could double-click a sound file and it would just play without launching an app. The OS itself was capable of playing sounds, like system sounds or even music files (you could also use QuickTime). This was pre-iTunes. I miss those days. The other day, I was trying out some sound effects, and double-clicking them launched the behemoth bloatware app, iTunes. Of course, I could pick another app, but I would prefer no app at all, i.e., system-level, ready-to-eat sounds; just click and it plays. Does anyone know of a system-level plug-in or background app that works in this way? An analogous system function would be clippings. Double-click one of those and it just pops up; no app launches. This is how System 7 worked, and I sorely miss it. I use sampled sounds a lot, and I just want to click on them to quickly hear what they sound like in that same simple way we once could.

Apr 19, 2012I'm using Mail 3.6 on OS 10.5.8. I have three email accounts I manage through Mail. My main email account has stopped receiving emails. I can still send but not receive. My other two email accounts both send and receive just fine.
Mail had prompted me to import messages after a restart right before this account stopped receiving mails. All of the emails (from all three accounts) imported successfully and I'm sure what prompted Mail having to reimport emails in the first place. This main email account had grown quite large, around 46,000 messages and I've since got that number down to 28,000.

Mar 18, 2012Is it possible to turn off the feature whereby OSX presents me with a play button in the middle of a sound file? Everytime I want to select a sound file to move or delete it, I move the mouse over the file, click, and the silly thing starts to play. Okay, I know I can click outside the play button, but it is an extra bother to have to precisely position my mouse to avoid playing the file, a bother I can do without.

Went to mail preferences and checked account info which are the exact settings as of yesterday and matches the same preferences in my other IMac. I have my wifi connection working just can't get mail. What to do next? I did run Main Menu and Repair Disk permissions. Mail is working on my MacPro and other IMac.

Jul 2, 2012I recently did the mobileme to icloud swtich to keep my me.com email.Since Snow Leopard doesn't have an iCloud option and the MobileMe account option no longer works, I had to switch to create a new IMAP account with all of iCloud's server info.Ever since, the mac mail.app has been downloading messages practically non-stop.Every few minutes it will download 5000+ messages and growl notifications will fill up my screen. My mail folder is currently at 20gb and growing. I know there isn't that much mail data on the server as I originally had my mobileme limit set much lower. I tried deleting the account and creating a new one again, however it still happens.

May 8, 2010In an effort to make Mail more gmail-like, I selected the "View>Organize by thread" option. However, this only seems to group messages in my inbox and doesn't include my sent messages within the same conversation.
Is this how threaded messages are supposed to work? Just one side of a conversation? Or is there a setting to get my sent messages to show up in the threaded conversation?
I am using Mac Mail to check my gmail acct via IMAP. I am using the settings specified by google. I have selected the appropriate folders and mapped them using the "Use this folder for..." menu item. My sent messages are both in the Sent folder (for a while, then they disappear) and below in my Gmail>Sent Mail folder (always current). I have the option selected to store them on the server.

Apr 14, 2012Since yesterday the mail programme on my iMac does not download e-mails from the gmail server, but luckily I still can send e-mails. On the iPhone I still receive e-mails and I can send e-mails. The iPhone is connected to the internet either via 3G or the same router I am using for the iMac.
Via the Safari browser I do have access to all my e-mails on the gmail server. Mail: Version 4.5 (1084)

But, everyone uses windows around me and when I send email to them, they get my email as plain text. Here is my question... Even I made changing form plain text to rich text in preferences, my mails go still as plain text. Should I do something with Terminal? How can I fix it? Preferences richt text/plain text switch doesnt work.

Feb 13, 2012Not sure if it is me or this is just the way Apple Mail works. Logic would assume that if you select a message in Apple Mail and that message is highlighted, not opened, and you click the From column so you can sort by that column Apple Mail would make sure that, when it is sorted, the highlighted message would still be in your view. I can get this to work sometimes and other times it does not, so it is starting to bother me. Is there something that I am missing...some step...or is this just the way it works.

Oct 9, 2009Snow-Leopard 10.6.1 on uMPB with 4 GB RAM, 500 GB HD, 2.8 GHz IC2D, Mail (64-bit) 4.1 (1076) Mail is eating my memory over time and I cannot fix this problem. In long: I have been having trouble with Apples Mail ever since my SL upgrade but now it is getting to become VERY annoying. First, after upgrading, Mail would often hang when quitting (for up for 5 minutes) which would not allow me to shut off my computer. Now, in 10.6.1, when I open Mail, I can sit and watch Mail eat away my RAM. From 20 MB initially, it quickly hits 100 MB RAM then after a couple of hours of leaving it be, I can see that Mail is requiring 2.5-2.6 GB of RAM (Gigabytes!) constantly. At first, I thought this was due to GrowlMail not being compatible with 10.6, but even after updating Growl to 64-bit and reinstalling GrowlMail this memory problem still persists. Actually, after uninstalling Growl and all its applications (including GrowlMail) Mail keeps eating a solid 2.6 GB of my RAM. Continuously. This slows down my 4GB 2.8GHz uMBP and causes long sessions of spinning balls and delayed keyboard/mouse actions. Mail never lets go of the RAM only gets bigger up until 2.73 GB (highest I have seen before I force quit it through Activity Monitor). Once I Force Quit, Mail releases the memory and I am back to my fast mac. I found the following this at [URL] and after removing my RSS feeds from Mail and restarting mail, I am now running perfectly again --- Virtual Memory and RAM both less than 45 MB.
