I'm not getting email notification sounds when I get an email in mail. I have tried changing the sounds. My updates are current. I'm using 10.5.4, and it used to work. I get all other sounds except the new mail sounds. Can someone help Apple Care is useless in helping me with this. I have a macbook running the same OS and every thing with the same sound, and it works just fine everytime.

My push notification for Facebook & Twitterwere working absolutely fine for sometime now, till recentled my Face Book & Twitter passwords. I deleted the account from System Preferences -> Internet Accounts & added it back again, but that hasn't worked either.

I am on Mavericks 10.9.3 (brand new MB Air 13.3). I configured Mail with my IMAP accounts and it is able to send and receive mail. The problem is that the sound stops working after a while. When I sleep and wake the computer, at some point, it no longer makes the whoosh when sending a message. None of the other sounds work either. I have updated everything very recently.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have recently thought I was going deaf because I was getting new mail and never hearing the sound for it. I thought maybe iTunes was on too loud or something. However, I've just done a test and no, Mail is definitely not playing the new mail sound. Speakers are the internal default ones, volume is up, but when I send mail to myself from a different Gmail account, when it arrives in Apple Mail there's no sound. This happens whether the app is active or in the background.
I'm sure I've heard it working a couple of times recently, but it's random and seems to be very much in the minority of occasions. Here's another weird thing it does - when I've received new mail during the day but Mail has been turned off, when I get home and open the application it searches for mail, downloads the new ones, and plays the 'No new mail' sound.
I've considered these things might be because I've already received the mail on my Blackberry, but this never used to happen in Tiger, and I'm using a POP Gmail service, not an IMAP one it shouldn't be able to tell I've already had them.
I have Dockstar installed but it worked fine with Dockstar before. Might it be causing a conflict somehow? Dockstar doesn't play any sounds, only changes how the mail notifications appear in the dock icon.
I don't use iChat so I don't know if this problem has affected other Apple apps. I've read some people having problems with that too.

Downloaded twitter app via app mac store and we set up mail correctly.
Also, went in to preferences on the twitter app and selected that we wanted the notification sound. we did the exact same on the mail app.
But still, no sounds. And yes, we do have the volume up
For a long time now, Apple Mail has not been playing any sound when new mail arrives (the other Mail sounds still work.) Doesn't matter which sound I have enabled, or what schedule I select, silence. Checked com.apple.mail.plist and my selection seems to be there, dunno why it is not working. What can I do to bring back New Mail Sound?
View 2 Replies View RelatedSo I'm not sure what to do here, but when I was using my MacBook Pro (Mac OSX), the sound suddenly stopped working, volume up, no mute, correct output, when I unplugged and plugged in speakers and headphones. I tried rebooting several times. Then I booted into Windows XP via Boot Camp. The sound works just as it should in Windows, which is where I am writing from right now.

The Console Log reports the following error.

The Mail Applescript property "new mail sound" appears not to be recognized correctly. I do not have any Mail plugins. Several additional sounds have been added to the system sound set. Under Snow Leopard, I used the same Applescripts (fired off by iCal) which turned on/off Mail's New Mail Sound depending on the time of day, i.e. I set the new mail sound to be "Silent Alert" in the evening and restored it to my default new mail alert in the morning. Any guidance as to what might be wrong and how to solve this problem would be very welcome.

today i found that Mail has stopped working for no obvious reason.It wont send or receive emails, but when i check by signing into .mac itself, the messages have arrived and everything appears normal.Mail won't quit either... then every so often a box with the following text appears:'Some actions taken while the account 'enter.mac address here' was offline could not be completed online.Mail has undone actions on some messages so that you can redo the actions while online. I just opened up my MacBook about an hour ago, and for some reason the sound output isn't working. System preferences are as they should be (mute is not activated). I'm assuming that this is a hardware problem, but am hoping that somehow it is not. It's completely mute, btw, no sounds of any kind. When I restarted it, no sounds when it booted up again.

The sound no longer works on my computer, however when I check in system preferences it says everthing is fime, also the microphone still works. All I did was un plug my headphones from the computer. I did go to system preferences and changed it back to internal speakers, but that did nothing.

I could see the sound bar that pops up in the middle of the screen go up and down but the sound stayed where it was. This is new and has never happened before.
