I use the 'blow' sound for new mail messages and I want to be able to have that same sound on my phone for new emails aswell.
I can't seem to locate the sound file though, does anyone know where they are stored?
I have a iMac g5 and have problems with MSN messenger. Since about 1 week, the sound alert when a contact in my list comes online, doesn't sound any longer. All the other sound alerts still work normally and all the alerts in MSN preference are activated and work when trying them out. I just did a complete reinstall of Leopard and only did the system update and installing the msn messenger and still, that same problem is there. Why is this happening? Is this a bug in msn that started recently?
View 1 Replies View RelatedAll of a sudden my alert sounds (all the stock ones, no custom ones) are messed up. The one I use the most (Basso) just sounds like static now when it is triggered (e.g. backspacing at the prompt in terminal). Also, the individual .aiff files will not play in any player. Haven't been able to find anything remotely like this with extensive googling. System specs in signature. [edit] the "pop" sounds you get when you adjust the volume is stuffed up too!

Also, when i take a screenshot there is no sound, but there usually is one. My speakers are working because i am able to play music in itunes. This week my Mail sound started going off for all types, incessantly, including receipt of the much Junk filtered out of the Inbox into Junk. Formerly I received alert sounds only for new Inbox mail. I have unchecked the "Play sounds for other actions" in Mail Preferences which does no good.

Since upgrading my MBP to Snow Leopard over this weekend, I have lost some of my system sounds. Specifically, I don't have any sounds for sent mail or when you empty the trash.
I've scoured over several forums where this problem is highlighted, but none of their fixes have worked for me. For instance: I've checked my 'Sound' preference pane to make sure sound effects are on; I've restarted my machine; I've checked the hidden preferences using Tinker Tool; and, repaired permissions through Disk Utility.
Has anyone got any solutions to this problem? Is anyone else experienceing the same issue?

Is it possible to change the "New Mail Sound" for different mailboxes? I mean one sound for my work email and another for my personal?
I have configured Mail.app to make a sound (a short MP3 file) when new mail arrives. This used to work a few years ago.
For the past few years it hasn't worked. User interface sounds are switched on and everything is activated in System Preferences and Mail preferences.
When I check the settings for the MP3 file in Mail preferences, it even plays the file there. But when a new mail arrives it does not.
Simiarly, and I don't know if this problem is related or not, Skype has stopped making user interface sounds. Again, this is the same Mac, which is configured for user interface sounds in System Preferences, and Skype is configured to make a ringing sound when I call someone and some weird sound when I receive an instant message in a chat window.
I am using Lion on a new MacBook Air, and after migrating my old data from my old MBP, I noticed that Mail no longer makes sounds for new mail or sent mail. I did some research and found something related to IMAP settings, but I use POP, and still don't get the sounds.

It might be just a minor problem, but Mail stopped making sounds. No new mail sound, no reassuring jetplane sound when a mail is sent, no blip when there's nothing going on. I've checked the preferences, and they should still be turned on.
Also, I've got the impression something hapened to either my keychain or my cookies in Safari, since I had to login to a bunch of forums and other sites that I can normally just check. Firefox doesn't seem to have this problem, but I prefer Safari as my primary internet browser.
if I make the move to iCloud will anything happen to my stored Mail messages in my .mac/.me account? I keep tons of old messages going back to 2003 as a method of filing information and dont want to lose it. Will anything else change? I use Mail on both my MacBook Pro and my iPhone, and also remotely via the internet.

I have recently thought I was going deaf because I was getting new mail and never hearing the sound for it. I thought maybe iTunes was on too loud or something. However, I've just done a test and no, Mail is definitely not playing the new mail sound. Speakers are the internal default ones, volume is up, but when I send mail to myself from a different Gmail account, when it arrives in Apple Mail there's no sound. This happens whether the app is active or in the background.
I'm sure I've heard it working a couple of times recently, but it's random and seems to be very much in the minority of occasions. Here's another weird thing it does - when I've received new mail during the day but Mail has been turned off, when I get home and open the application it searches for mail, downloads the new ones, and plays the 'No new mail' sound.
I've considered these things might be because I've already received the mail on my Blackberry, but this never used to happen in Tiger, and I'm using a POP Gmail service, not an IMAP one it shouldn't be able to tell I've already had them.
I have Dockstar installed but it worked fine with Dockstar before. Might it be causing a conflict somehow? Dockstar doesn't play any sounds, only changes how the mail notifications appear in the dock icon.
I don't use iChat so I don't know if this problem has affected other Apple apps. I've read some people having problems with that too.

Also, went in to preferences on the twitter app and selected that we wanted the notification sound. we did the exact same on the mail app.Â

I closed the laptop and it started making a rapid series of whooshes and dings. I did not send any mail before closing it, and didn't change any settings. I quickly shut down and restarted, and I don't see that any mail was sent.

So i can copy all the email address, ones i have typed into mail, across to my new setup. I have copied the com.apple.mail.plist and the mail folder/mail downloads into the right places. But i when i type a email it doesn't fill out the address for me.
I don't seem to be able to initiate an email on the mail program in icloud but I can reply to a received message. Where are my contacts stored, and how can I get to them?

View 6 Replies View RelatedI am trying to locate an attachment file from a recently deleted message. The message is no longer in my trash, so I can't access the file through Mail. In the past, there was usually an archived copy somewhere on my hard drive, but it seems to have moved in my most recent update of Mac OSX. It used to be in the Library folder in my user folder, but now there is no Library folder in that location. Where do I find these files?

How do I remove the feature that makes a sound after it checks for mail? Entourage 2008. I have my iMac to check for mail every 2 minutes but it constantly makes the ding sound for each of my mail accounts.
