I have Mail in Lion configured to not play a sound when mail arrives. However, recently a sound started playing. It's still turned off in the config. I suspect a bug in a recent update to Lion.

This hasn't happened before. My Mac (MacBook running OS 10.5.6) will flash instead of a "bloop" noise when I get a notification. When I get an alert, I won't get a noise anymore. Or when I hit a button on my keyboard that does nothing my computer won't make a noise. Now my displays just flash white for a second. I have no idea how this happened.

I don't want to rely on alerts being added at to the subscription itself, I want to be able to customise on my end when I get an alert for an entry, and when or what that alert will be. Is this possible? I don't see any options for it. If not, anyone know of any good alternative calendar applications that are like iCal?

I have shared a calendar with several people, but they are not receiving my alarms/alerts. Â
I add an alarm at say 30 min prior to the event, but when the even is added to their iCloud calendar, no alarm/alert added so the only notification they receive is the email they get when I create or modify the event.Â
Is there any way of enforcing the alarm to be shared, or configuing the other users settings to always have an alert. At the moment they all have no alarm at all. Â
I have tried ticking/unticking the 'ignore alerts' on the shared calendar on their Macs, but to no avail..
Since switching to Lion, I've noticed that Notes are now visible in the Inbox view in Mail. Every time I create a new one (and I use Notes a lot!), it is visible in the Inbox Â
I want to switch this off - I only want to see Notes if I click on the Notes mailbox!Â

I'm fairly new to the MAC world and have not found my way around this computer completely. I have seen a commercial of an iMAC sending email and a swishing sound occurred when the email was sent. I wonder how one turns on the sound that indicates the email has been transmitted? And, are there choices of different sounds for this purpose?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI am getting "downloaded from the internet" alerts on files I have created myself, and were never downloaded. Example: create a new file with TextEdit, put some text in it, save it as Test.tst, and close it.
If I re-open it, I get the warning: "This may be an application. It was downloaded from the internet etc.". But it is not executable, it is just a flat text file, and it was definitely not downloaded from the internet. If I give it the extension .txt instead of .tst this does not happen, but I want to work with non-standard extensions sometimes. Strangely, if I give it no extension at all, the problem also does not occur. So the system distrusts ".tst", but anything without extension is OK? Looks like a bug or misdesigned feature to me.Â
The most annoying thing is that if I make changes to such a file I get the same warning again, and this continues forever.When I type "ls -ld@ Test.tst" I see:Â com.apple.quarantine23 Â This is supposedly the reason for the message. I know I can change that for each file separately or turn off quarantine completely, but that is not what I want.Is there a way to switch of quarantine just for certain file extensions?

Something happened about 10 days ago and I'm repeatedl getting the same iCal alerts which were dismissed when they first occured. I am also having all the programs that were open when whatever glitch occured reopen every time I start up again including a repeat Excel autosave. Does anyone know where the system keeps the restart information as I suspect that it needs to be cleared out.

This week my Mail sound started going off for all types, incessantly, including receipt of the much Junk filtered out of the Inbox into Junk. Formerly I received alert sounds only for new Inbox mail. I have unchecked the "Play sounds for other actions" in Mail Preferences which does no good.

When I go to turn on my MacBook pro nothing happens. No sound no hd spin no nothing. Last put computer to sleep and had it plugged in charging. Now when plugged in led doesn't turn green or any color just stays off and battery detector on side of laptop does nothing at all.

Last night I turned it off and the weird fan continued running. I tried to unplug my mac and plug it back in, but the fan just starts right back up. Happily it worked, however there doesn't seem to be a way to mute the startup sound. I've searched the internet for answers but the problem is, but all the advice I find tells me either to mute the computer before turning it off (which unfortunately doesn't work), plugging in headphones (also didn't work), or downloading a mac application which I obviously can't as I'm in windows.

View 3 Replies View RelatedEvery computer I ever had, the first thing I do is to turn off the startup sound because it is very annoying in a public place and sometimes in a quiet place. I have not been able to find out how to trun it off on my Air. I asked the guys at the stores and they just say you can't. That is really dumb. I turned off my speaker but that is not a practical way because I may not remember to turn it off when I shut down.

Last week in the middle of my work day nothing special, the system started playing the camera shutter / screen capture. I started timing between the shutter, every 30 seconds, very annoying - the camera shutter sound - same as the shift-4 screen capture sound and same as the sound that occurs when you press the back button in terminal. I have a 15 inch mac book pro. 2009 model.
I wondered whether someone had installed a hidden shell script or apple script program and is capturing my screen and maybe sending it over the net. I don't know where to look or how to turn this off.
I have checked activity monitor and did not notice any programs running like "screencapture" or anything else like that. I have also turned hidden files visable on, but i can't find any screen capture directory or files: .jpg, .pdf, .png files I should be seeing lots of them for every 30 seconds per capture.
I have also installed little snitch, nothing strange seems to be going out by way of connections. Only dropbox, i have deleted that but the noise still keeps going. I will have to reinstall again..
My ibook G4 died last night. After having some trouble with the battery (i have to replace it), the laptop finally did'nt turned on never again. Although is plugged with the power cord, the computer does'nt make any sound and it does'nt turn on, it does'nt even sound the cooling fan spining.
