OS X Mavericks :: Unable To Allow Apple Mail To Create Reminders?
Jul 2, 2014
I just upgraded to MacOSx 10.9.3 (Mavericks) from Mountain Lion. Apple Mail can no longer create a reminder by dragging an email into the reminders icon on the bottom app bar. This was a great function. Was it discontinued in Mavericks, or is this a flaw that I can fix by changing a setting somehow?

I'm migrating the admin side of my life to my iMac. I am using Mac mail for my mai, this includes a Gmail IMAP account and a POP3 account for my meandering ISP. The IMAP one loads up fine with the IMAP folders there under a sub set of folders for the account. But the POP3 account won't let me create folders within it nor does it have a subset like the Geekwolf one you see below. What do I need to do to get it to have folders, I need to be able to sort incoming mail, but at the moment, I can't.My ISP does have an IMAP setting, but I don't want to have the mail sat about on a server.

Dopey me. I bought a new Mini today, and eveything's up and running except Apple Mail. I can't configure my account correctly because I can't remember the old password I was using. (It was different from my OSX administrator password.) Can I can create new one?

I'm fairly new to Apple Mail and what not. So I'm going to refer to what I used to do on my PC to handle some important email's that I received. This was while I was using the built in Windows Mail program. What I want to do and use to do is. While in the mail program I created an "Important" folder for the mail program and I would move important emails that I did not want lingering in my inbox and that I didn't want to delete or anything. Is there some way to create folders in Apple Mail to save some important emails like this? I have 3 email accounts in Apple Mail [Gmail, MobileMe, & Comcast POP].

When trying to create a new user in Server Application I've come across this message: "existing connection is not authenticated: password change denied".
1. Quit Server.app.
2. On the Open Directory Server, execute these Terminal commands:
sudo touch /var/db/openldap/migration/.rekerberize sudo killall PasswordService
3. Open Server.app. but the message I'm given in the terminal is No such file or directory.
Why I don't have the folder structure needed for this?

I had a "To Do" list in iCal running Lion. I just upgraded to Mavericks and now have Calendar and Reminders. My "To Do"s did come across into Mavericks and Reminders.
I found my "To Do" list in Reminders in that when I click "Today" I see reminders for today. When I click on any date on the calendar I see reminders for that day. On my "To Do" list in iCal and Lion I often had items that I didn't have a date on. I called them "Unscheduled". Now for my question.
How can I find my unscheduled items, i.e. those with no due date? How do I get to them? My process used to include reviewing my unscheduled items and if any of them should need to be done, I'd add a date at that time.

I know how to create a email profile on OSX Mail to access GMail. My question is if the GMail mail will be downloaded locally to my machine or will it remain on the Google servers. I WANT it to remain on the servers, ie I only want to access my emails through Mail. Otherwise most of my HDD will fill up with email and also I will not be able to access my emails when I do not have my machine on hand. what happens when I delete an email in Mail? Will it also get deleted in GMail?

I would like to use the 24 hour clock and not have to work about the extra step of AM or PM. Can I set a preference to use the 24 hour clock with Reminders? I can set it with my clock display on the computer but I do not know who to correct with the supporting apps.

The Reminders App have become unusable. I unable to create a new Reminder or modify an existing one. Every time I want to make a change in a field in the individual Reminder window it closes. This makes creation and updating impossible. From time to time the App just crashes for no apparent reason.

It seems that Outlook 2011 Reminders switch the active screen (when using multiple spaces in OSX which I always do) when they pop. This seems to happen whether I have the reminders set to appear on all desktops or just the first desktop. This is hugely annoying when I am in a fullscreen app (e.g. parallels) and suddenly I'm warped over to the first screen again. I'm talking about spaces functionality in OSX, not multiple monitors. This feature. OS X Mavericks: Work in multiple spaces

So I've recently migrated back to Mail after a long hiatus and set up my Gmail account with IMAP. I like Mail 3.0, but one bug could be a deal breaker for me:I don't like the notes feature and don't plan to use it. However, there are four mystery notes that keep reappearing in my Reminders. I don't remember creating them, and whenever I delete them they reappear about 5 minutes later. They are all blank and always have the same timestamp, too. I've tried junking them, I've tried deleting the Notes mailbox itself, even deleting it on google's end.

Today I had installed Netflix's Silverlight app to watch some movies on my 27" iMac running 10.5.8. Last night I had installed Developer tools. Today, after a restart my date/time was set to a date in 2000. On opening date/time it then showed the correct date. Later I started the computer up and Mail with iCal is sending out hundreds (up to 240 now) of old reminder emails (the system date is showing as today). I Force Quit Mail and it immediately starts up again. I got rid of my Mail and iCal prefs, restarted and immediately it starts up again. First the iCal reminder box pops up, then it launches Mail and then there it goes. Force Quit mail and it comes right back to life line in a horror movie. How can I kill this gosh darn thing. I am running a permission repair with Disk Utilities and it is finding many many permissions to fix. When it is done I will restart.

Seems when Apple Mail checks for new mail (Mail provider is Google), it does show up in the All Mail folder that Google provides, but the new messages are not showing up in the Apple Mail inbox.
When I check this in the Google mail web client, mail appears as normal.
I'm missing messages, so this is something I'd like to figure out what's going on.

Just bought a new Mac Pro running Mavericks. Migrated my life from my old Mac Pro (early 2008) running Mountain Lion. That's a whole other story, but my problem now is that Mail does not delete attachments when I reply to a message that contained the attachments. This is new to me, so I wasn't aware of it until I started getting nasty messages from my Internet provider telling me that I had exceeded the maximum allowable message size. When a client sent me a 10MB document to review and edit, I would reply and attach the edited document to the reply, not knowing that the original 10MB file was still there (down at the bottom of a sometimes lengthy message).
The old attachment can be manually deleted in the Message tab, but I can't find anything in Preferences or anywhere else that allows me to turn that feature off forever.

The Mail feature on my MacBookPro is not saving all the messages from my inbox. It did at first, a year ago, but in recent months I notice that some messasges are omitted. They are not spam; they include messages from someone in my Contacts list, as well as other legitimate organizations, etc. I tried to see if they were "combined" into some other related message, but saw no evidence of this, unless there is some hidden indicator.

When I am copying a signature I create in a mail into the Signatures database, It doesn't seem to save as it was built...sometimes it removes/adds carriage returns. Other times it won't copy the graphics with the text. Is there a way to make sure it stays as I create or edit it?

One of the email lists that I subscribe to frequently contains messages with images. It's a moderately high volume list with 20-30 messages per day. Inevitably, a few of those messages with attached images (according to the paperclip icon in the messages list) will arrive with no headers and no raw data. The display of the message in Apple Mail shows only the sender's name/address and the subject, nothing else such as the usual warning, "This message contains no content."
The people who run the mailing list don't think that the problem is on their end so is there a way to correct it.

I've seen this problem documented elsewhere, but none of the "solutions" seem to work.
I have two-step verification enabled on my Gmail account. I generate a unique application password for Apple Mail, which I enter into the password field in the Mail application.
Inexplicably, anywhere from 5 minutes to 1 week later, when I attempt to send an e-mail I will be prompted that the password is "wrong." It isn't, because I HAVEN'T CHANGED ANYTHING. The only way I can get the message to go away is to revoke and then re-generate another unique password.
Interestingly, I can receive e-mails into the account with no problem, but it seems the sending part is where Mail gets wonky. I have tried:
-Removing the e-mail account entirely from Mail and setting it up from scratch
-Deleting all traces of the old password from my Mac, including from Keychain Access (did this combined with the above).
I am getting tired of this and am two steps from ditching Mail for a more functional e-mail client.

I have OS 10.9.3. The past few days when I start up my computer in the morning, Apple Mail and my Chrome browser open by themselves. I do not have any startup items in my account except for Dropbox. I do not leave any apps open at shutdown. I have quit those apps before I shut down at night. I've looked through some of the support discussions and none of the solutions apply since these apps are not in my startup items and I don't leave them open at shutdown. I can't find a reason for this.

I am trying to locate an attachment file from a recently deleted message. The message is no longer in my trash, so I can't access the file through Mail. In the past, there was usually an archived copy somewhere on my hard drive, but it seems to have moved in my most recent update of Mac OSX. It used to be in the Library folder in my user folder, but now there is no Library folder in that location. Where do I find these files?

Day X: Mail 1 arrives in my Apple Mail Inbox, Shows the date as Day X.
Day Y: Mai 2 arrives in my Apple Mail Inbox. Shows the date as Day Y.
Day Z: The date shown for May 1 is Day Z. The date for Mail 2 shows as Day Z.
This does not always happen, but seemingly is happening more and more.
I have tried quitting and restarting the program. Rebooting Mavericks (Late 2008 MacBook Air). I upgraded to Mavericks when it first came out and didn't see this problem right away.
I have also quit Mail, changed the time zone in System Preferences, Quit and reopened System Preferences. and changed it back to the correct time zone.
