Is there any maintenance things I need to do to keep my Macbook running smoothly? Is there anywhere that files build up which i need to delete etc... like the temp internet file on a PC?

Is running the OnyX Maintenance Program same as reinstalling the system?Â

This 15" MacBook Pro is abotu a year and a half old, and I'm running into a bit of a problem. For most things, it's fine. I use it for photoshop, aperture, etc. And a couple months ago, I used to play Team Fortress 2 and other games in bootcamp. But now these games have come out for the Mac and they run sluggishly at best. It's very choppy. At first I thought this was something to do with the program itself, but after doing a lot of research, no one else seemed to be complaining abotu the problems I was. This leads me to believe that there is a problem with my computer.. So how can I test this? Are there any ways to speed up my mac? Maybe an update, or a fresh install, or something?

I just got sims 3. Running on the 13 inch mbp fairly well. A little too much stuttering for me though. My question is, to anyone who has this game, have you found the write settings where the game runs 100% smooth? I'll sacrifice graphics for smoothness. Wanted to know what the general consensus is for to game to get running really smooth. Didnt want to just bring all my sliders down to a minimum without knowing what I am doing. It seems as if when I play sims 3, the fan is on high rev, throughout the whole time.

I made it a 29 or so GB partition, so it used the FAT32 formatting.
The program I tried to install is the eyeQ speed reading program, and the laptop exceeds every single one of the recommended requirements.
The problem comes when I am attempting to install the program, I keep getting an error message in which it says "This program cannot run on a computer with less than 64 megabytes of ram."
Last time I checked my laptop has 4 GB of ram, and it says the same thing when I checked it while running Windows XP.
My only guess, which I made while typing this, was that I should have formatted the Windows partition using NTSF.
I just got a MBP 13" and I want to run some video converting programs while the lid is closed (I don't like the idea of leaving my laptop's screen open at night) but I can't disable sleep mode while the lid is closed.

So, I found the file under applications and drug it to the trash thinking it was gone. Well it wasn't. Now every time I plug in my ipod it pops up "Sync alert". It wants me to sync my ipod with it but I don't want to. I don't even remember what the program is called, but it does not seem to be showing up in the finder or in the spotlight. I want this program completely gone, I have no use for it.

Or does this look like a virus and should I just restore from my time machine backup? My most recent backup is roughly 1 week old and my external has not been connected since this began to happen. It's worth noting this only happens to Safari--Firefox works perfectly fine. No other odd behaviors (ie. system lag, program crashes, etc.) have appeared.Â

Anyways the first is every time I open the program it goes threw the setup every time even to the registration again and putting in my keychain password like installing a new program, did I not install it right ? Second I have the program open now and I choose a folder to open were my movies are and I could here the computer serching for the cd in the drive and the little wheel just spins untill I put the cd in the drive, does this program only work with the cd in the drive ?

I was wondering if doing a full charge and then a discharge is a good thing when a new mac or new battery is bought? Also should it just be a simple charge and discharge or does it have to be a full calibration? Also what is the best method in maintaining a healthy battery? Should I cycle at least once a week and do a calibration every few months? Or should one cycle per month be fine? Also is it alright if the battery is fully charged and I have the plug-adaptor plugged in to my MacBook Pro while using it? Finally, is it true that over night the plug or when not in use and not charging the plug should be outside of the MacBook Pro?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI feel like when i try to hook up my macbook to a monitor with the vga adaptor, it just never works smoothly. i always have to play around with the wires for a while until i have an image on the screen. plug out the usb mouse and keyboard, plug them back in, unplug the adaptor, plug it back in. then finally it works, and this is every time i try to do it. i prefer to to it with my laptop closed, not in dual screen mode. can anyone point me to a simpler process to do this? its getting really annoying

Video content on YouTube and Vimeo is juddering and skipping worse than it does on my 2009 MacBook Pro. It's not smooth at all. Â
