I have a macbook pro, 2.4ghz intel and recently picked up logitech's x540 5.1 surround sound speakers.
I know need a good external usb sound card to push the 5.1 surround sound to its fullest
I've been looking around and two caught my attention so far. The Griffin Firewave (which has been discontinued) and the Creative Labs SB1090 USB Sound Blaster X-Fi.
The griffin seems to be fully compatible, but I occasionally game on my windows xp bootcamp parition.. and have read that it is not compatible with windows.
The creative one however is, but of course we all know creative labs doesnt realize that there are actually other OS systems out there other than Windows. Ive searched and found that people were able to get it to work on their macs, others havnt..
I need a definite answer
Or if anyone can recommend another one that I didnt mention.

Is there that much a difference between 2.2 and 2.5? Also keep in mind that I'm a Graphic Designer. This is the first laptop purchase I'm making. I already know that 4GB of ram is a must.

I have the late 2008 MBP which has only 2gb of ram. I'm planning on upgrading the ram. With this, I'm just wondering if there is anything one has to know when doing this. Considering that I boot on both windows (bootcamp) and osx, would the ram be recognized immediately? Or do i have to install or do something first before it does. Is it more advisable to reformat the whole computer? Maybe because of some performance issues.

I setup a Bootcamp Partition to run Windows. I set it to only 10gb to save all of my space on my Mac OS. I wanted to delete it completely because it was doing some funny things on the Windows side but I accidentally deleted the Mac OSX Partition!!!! Now when I start up my computer it only starts up on Windows with the 10gb partition. I want to restore my Mac OsX partition with all of my important importation on it!

I was wondering if doing a full charge and then a discharge is a good thing when a new mac or new battery is bought? Also should it just be a simple charge and discharge or does it have to be a full calibration? Also what is the best method in maintaining a healthy battery? Should I cycle at least once a week and do a calibration every few months? Or should one cycle per month be fine? Also is it alright if the battery is fully charged and I have the plug-adaptor plugged in to my MacBook Pro while using it? Finally, is it true that over night the plug or when not in use and not charging the plug should be outside of the MacBook Pro?

I have just bought a X25-M SSD drive for my MBP (mid-2010). Is it recommend to clone my existing stock drive to get OSX on the SSD or should I rebuild from scratch and perhaps use Time Machine to recover all my apps and settings?
Any advice appreciated.

I am trying to recover some very important text messages from my Verizon phone and I downloaded a Mac application to help me, it's called Disk Drill. However when I connect my phone to the computer using the usb cable that came with it, my Macbook does not recognize that the phone is connected. Can I fix this and if so, how? The phone is a LG VX5500 Verizon cellphone and I do not believe that it has a SIM card. I took out the battery but it doesn't look like there is any place for a SIM card.

I only receive my emails spasmodically, and often don't receive the important stuff! I would receive all emails on each of my devices, using Mail (often annoying as I would have to delete it 4 times) but at least it ensured that I didn't miss anything.
Now I only receive the messages that Mail wants me to get.... and not all of them, and once it has come down on one device, it doesn't appear on any of the others. I have deleted accounts and re added them, without any change. I have contacted my internet provider, and checked all the settings, and they appear correct (although my emails don't stay on the server as a backup option).

In outlook mail a box came up saying to rebuild database which I did. I clicked done when finished. When I went to email I can now receive emails and reply to emails but I cannot start a new email without the prompt to rebuild coming up.Once this prompt comes up I have to rebuild again as the swirly thing prevents me from doing anything else, so I end up in a circular pattern and consequently can't use outlook.

I recently reinstalled Lion on my system and updated it and all that. Now I can't seem to install anything or run a program unless I'm at the computer. No matter what I set my power settings to my system will log out and cancel anything that's running, including downlaods and instalations. This is very frustrating when trying to download something overnight if it's a large file. It never used to do this, and I can only guess it's something with the latest update.

So when the windows 7 beat was launched, i ended up choosing to download the 32-bit version as I knew it would run, and I wasn't sure if I was compatible or not.
1. I have a 20" iMac 2.4GHz 2GB RAM etc. Is my computer capable of running 64-bit?
2. Whats the difference between 32-bit and 64-bit? Is 64-bit faster?

my MBP has been acting up, i just had the logic board and the lcd display replaced for a 2nd time due to a scrambled and soon after " black screen" syndrome now after i just picked up my MBP from repair, yesterday my airport and ethernet are not really working. it works for a while and then network says that i have a self assigned ip address, the router slot is blank, i have the wrong ip add. starting with 162 so its (closed) the only solution is to physically unplug the router and then plug back in i spent almost 3 hr yesterday with my ISP trying to troubleshoot, for i thought it was my net gear modem/ router that was at fault but that was not the case its my mac so i would like to know exactly what components are included in my MBP 3.1 santa rosa logic board is the air port and ethernet controller located in the logic board ?
how about the nvidia video card is it also locted in the logic board ?
if it is can Apple just replace the defect part or do they have to replace the entire logic board again ?
this is my sys spec:
Model Name:MacBook Pro
Model Identifier:MacBookPro3,1
Processor Name:Intel Core 2 Duo
Processor Speed:2.4 GHz
Number Of Processors:1
Total Number Of Cores:2
L2 Cache:4 MB

Looking to encode all my video DVDs etc, for my library. I have an Apple TV, PS3, iMac (2Ghz Core 2 Duo) and iPhone. I have been using Handbrake which is great, use the Apple TV preset which plays on all the devices listed I have. However I'm just wondering if there is a paid for, or free program that is faster or better in any respect for converting? I know H264 is CPU intensive, so is Handbrake going to be the best and fastest anyway?
