View 2 RepliesI have a 15-inch MacBook Pro, the new unibody ones, and I installed Windows XP, using BootCamp.
I made it a 29 or so GB partition, so it used the FAT32 formatting.
The program I tried to install is the eyeQ speed reading program, and the laptop exceeds every single one of the recommended requirements.
The problem comes when I am attempting to install the program, I keep getting an error message in which it says "This program cannot run on a computer with less than 64 megabytes of ram."
Last time I checked my laptop has 4 GB of ram, and it says the same thing when I checked it while running Windows XP.
My only guess, which I made while typing this, was that I should have formatted the Windows partition using NTSF.
there just bought a mac book and am having troiuble downloading from the internet, it will download to my download folder and when i open it , its all in script and says this program cannot be ran in dos mode.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a Macbook OS X that is about four and a half years old. One day, when I tried to open itunes, the itunes symbol came up on my dock, bounced a few times, and then disappeared. It won't open anymore. The same thing has now happened with the installer program. When I download anything and click on it to install it, the installer icon comes up on the dock, bounces a few times, and then disappears.

Is there some key combination + mouse click to start a new instance?

Is it enough to run accounting and office softwares with total satisfaction? Secondly, can I run windows compatible program through the use of fusion 2 without running windows os everytime? Does that way save power to extend power life? Additionally, I just found that the white background color of the accounting program really hurts my eyes. Is there certain ways to make white background color look moderate to the eyes?

So, I found the file under applications and drug it to the trash thinking it was gone. Well it wasn't. Now every time I plug in my ipod it pops up "Sync alert". It wants me to sync my ipod with it but I don't want to. I don't even remember what the program is called, but it does not seem to be showing up in the finder or in the spotlight. I want this program completely gone, I have no use for it.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a Blackbook, it's about 3 years old now and the fan speed has increased to a very high level. There aren't any programs running in the background, this just simply happens when I leave the computer on. I'm assuming it's because there is dust buildup on the internal parts, but it's odd that it progressed from being fine to the stat that it is in today in the matter of days. Is there a way to clean the inside? Apple technician to have a look at it?

View 9 Replies View RelatedWhenever I to open Safari, over 80 windows open immediately. My homepages are two websties and I'll get probably 30 or so windows with my Home "pages" combination, and then another 50 of windows of sites I visted recently. If I proceed to close the windows out, Would reinstalling Safari work? Or does this look like a virus and should I just restore from my time machine backup? My most recent backup is roughly 1 week old and my external has not been connected since this began to happen. It's worth noting this only happens to Safari--Firefox works perfectly fine. No other odd behaviors (ie. system lag, program crashes, etc.) have appeared.

I have a Macbook running Leopard and an iMac running Tiger. I am looking to upgrade Leopard to Snow Leopard and Tiger to Leopard. If I were to purchase Snow Leopard and install it on the Macbook, would I then be able to use the copy of Leopard that came with the Macbook on the iMac? I am not trying to use 2 copies of the same thing on different machines, I just want to put a new os on one machine and move the existing one to another.I am reluctant to purchase the Mac Box Set version of Snow Leopard for the iMac because I do not want or need iLife and iWork.
View 2 Replies View RelatedSo with the whole Flashback/Flashfake thing I paniced (stupid on my part) ran a virus program called VirusBarrier Express and ran CCleaner (again, stupid me). Hoping I would clear off unused or harmful files I apparently in the process messed up my context menu. Items that were previously in the context menu are now gone. I did as much reading about possible fixes as I could and this is where everything stands.
Not every item in the image below was at the botton of the context menu, but iPack certainly was as well as various other menu items that have since dissapeared.
While searching the internet I came across a suggestion leading me to "library/Contextual Menu Items" and when I followed that directory for both my user and system I couldn't find a Contextual Menu Items folder. There wasn't any. I've had this "missing file/folder" problem before with preference files; just a side note.
I created the folder manually and restarted with no change at all.
Obviously I accidentally deleted something that shouldn't have been deleted. Is there any way to get back those missing items?

View 2 Replies View RelatedIs there a free way to run/emulate OS X Snow Leopard while running Leopard?
I had a billion problems when I upgraded to Snow Leopard but some software that I don't use frequently only works with it so I want to be able to run those apps while still staying in my less buggy OS X Leopard.
I don't want to have dual boot operating systems. OS X Leopard 10.5 is my primary OS.
As promised, Apple on Tuesday updated its website with information on how customers purchasing a new Mac or Xserve before the release of Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard in September can request a copy of the new operating system for just $10 in shipping and handling. The Mac maker has broken the Up-to-Date Program into two sections: "Hardware Up-To-Date" for customers purchasing a new Mac running Mac OS X client software and "Mac OS X Snow Leopard Server Up-To-Date" for those buying an Xserve running Mac OS X Server. Hardware Up-To-Date Customers who purchase a qualifying new Mac computer (list of models) or a qualifying Apple Certified Refurbished computer (list of models) on or after June 8, 2009 that does not include Mac OS X Snow Leopard can upgrade to Snow Leopard for $9.95 plus tax. To participate, your completed order form must be postmarked or faxed within 90 days of the date of your purchase of the qualifying Mac or by December 26, 2009, whichever is earlier. If you purchased your Mac directly from the Apple Online Store, follow one of these links to participate in the program:...........

I use my computers to work with my family tree. I have been looking for a new program that meets my needsd for a family tree program. Among the features is the ability to type in Ukrainian (cyrillic/unicode/utf script). I type in Ukrainian for other programs (I am not fluent, just need some ability). I have the language and keyboards installed and they work great will all the other programs.
The program I want to use is Gramps (genealogy software) which I tried a couple years ago (and it had a shortcoming at that time) and the old version was on my computer. I have deleted it, including in Application Support. When I imported my GEDCOM file, I was ecstatic that all the cyrillic characters were there. However, when I went to type in Ukrainian, the letters were "greeked". A suggestion from the Gramps group was to ensure that my "locale" was set to "utf-8" which I did. This did nothing, even after rebooting and reinstallling. The database was fine, but still unable to type in Ukrainian.

Like I presume everyone else, Mail is our default email program.
However I have recently been using Postbox and I rather like it, so I have sidelined Mail.
Problems arise when I schedule reminders and invitations from iCal - it immediately wants to start up the Mail program and not Postbox.
At the moment I am running the two email programs alongside each other which really isn't practical.
