Basically I want to watch high definition videos on my 42" hdtv so I bought the mini display port to hdmi adapter. When I play the videos with VLC I notice choppiness when things move too fast across the screen. Is this a limitation of the hardware (the integrated GPU?) Anyway I can perhaps smooth it out?

View 1 Replies View RelatedIs this normal? When watching a 1080p movie on my mbp, in order for it to play smoothly with no dropped frames etc, I have to close everything except for VLC. I have to close mail, itunes, I mean everything except for VLC. Is this normal? otherwise I will get many dropped frames every 5 min or so.

So when the stunning new Air came out, I decided I'd join them after using only Windows PCs for so many years. I am trying to decide between the 128GB base 11.6" Air and the base 13.3" one. I prefer the form factor of the 11.6", and ideally, I'd just go ahead and get it, because portability is high on my wishlist.
However, my decision hinges on whether the 11.6" can play 1080p MKVs so I can output them to my TV when I'm not mobile.I've read elsewhere that the 11.6" with the 1.4GHz CPU struggles in OSX, but I'd be installing Windows 7 as well, my media player of choice being Media Player Classic. The reason for this is that it supports hardware acceleration of movie files with the GPU, so allows the CPU to be relatively unused, or assists a slow CPU in playing high bitrate/resolution movies.
So, after the drawn out intro, I guess my questions are: Does the GeForce 320M in the Air support hardware acceleration (DXVA) in Media Player Classic in Windows? If yes, is it capable of playing 1080p MKVs smoothly (for example, a 24 minute show weighing in at roughly 1-1.5GB)?
I would really, really appreciate it if some kind soul would be willing to try this out to help me make my buying decision. As I say, it would be my first Mac, so I'm really not sure when it comes to this kind of thing. And I do realise that what I'm asking is ridiculously specific, but I thought that if anyone could help me, it would be you guys.
I have a bunch of 720p MKV files. I have my mini connected with HDMI to my 54" Panasonic 1080p. I set the resolution on the mini to 1080 and I play my MKV files...
When I set my resolution on my computer to 720p the movie takes up almost the full screen before i select full screen mode. When I set the computer resolution to 1080p and play the 720p media the movie screen only takes up about 3/4 of the screen until i set to full screen mode.
Do I lose any quality or get extra quality having my mini res at 1080p but playing 720p media?
Is the NVIDIA geforce capable of upscaling 720p to 1080?
This 15" MacBook Pro is abotu a year and a half old, and I'm running into a bit of a problem. For most things, it's fine. I use it for photoshop, aperture, etc. And a couple months ago, I used to play Team Fortress 2 and other games in bootcamp. But now these games have come out for the Mac and they run sluggishly at best. It's very choppy. At first I thought this was something to do with the program itself, but after doing a lot of research, no one else seemed to be complaining abotu the problems I was. This leads me to believe that there is a problem with my computer.. So how can I test this? Are there any ways to speed up my mac? Maybe an update, or a fresh install, or something?

My keyboard does not work properly. I have to press hard on the arrows top to bottom etc. to get it moving. It moves "haltingly". What causes it. I changed batteries. To no avail.

My question is, to anyone who has this game, have you found the write settings where the game runs 100% smooth? I'll sacrifice graphics for smoothness. Wanted to know what the general consensus is for to game to get running really smooth. Didnt want to just bring all my sliders down to a minimum without knowing what I am doing. It seems as if when I play sims 3, the fan is on high rev, throughout the whole time.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI feel like when i try to hook up my macbook to a monitor with the vga adaptor, it just never works smoothly. i always have to play around with the wires for a while until i have an image on the screen. plug out the usb mouse and keyboard, plug them back in, unplug the adaptor, plug it back in. then finally it works, and this is every time i try to do it. i prefer to to it with my laptop closed, not in dual screen mode. can anyone point me to a simpler process to do this? its getting really annoying

Video content on YouTube and Vimeo is juddering and skipping worse than it does on my 2009 MacBook Pro. It's not smooth at all. Â
I've had the computer a couple of weeks and haven't had a chance to install anything on it yet (aside from flash player to play the videos), so it's basically as it came from the factory.Â
I bought the mini display to dvi adaptor for my new alu mackbook 2.4 then connected it up to a dvi to hdmi cable, now connected to my sony 40v3000 1080p lcd tv.
Problem im having is i can only view it at 1024 x 768 resolution on the tv, when i should be able to view it at 1920 x 1080p?
None of the other resolutions seem to work in the display preferences.
I have a MBP 15 with the 9600 gt and an Intel ssd x-25.
Why do i experience choppy 1080p material (files that are over 8 gb)??.

I watch a lot of HD video on my i5 and it mostly handles it without a hiccup but on occasion there is some slight stuttering when there is fast motion (with 1080p, the 720p stuff is handled well)...I think the default chip for most video is the Intel HD but I would think the nVidia would better handle these bigger files...any thoughts?
(of course with battery use I know the nVidia is a resourse/energy hog)
I used to be able to watch 1080p videos, but know when I click on that option, nothing happens. I can only watch 720p.

If I reduce the reslution to 1920x1080p the video plays smoothly. Do I lose any image quality for playing the video when the moniter isnt set to its native resolution?

(How much faster would it go with a new processor?) How fast a processor do I need to be able to watch 1080p movies natively on the screen (or what other specs)? And on a 24" external display? View 13 Replies View RelatedIm thinking about getting a mbp 13" and i was wondering how well it edits and renders 1080p video. i currently edit and render on my 2007 mb and it takes 3 hours just for the render, plus it freezes for a few seconds here and there scrolling through the video. so we will say 4 hours total 1 hour to edit 7 min clip and 3 hours or more to render it. what my question is does anyone out there edit and render 1080p video with there 9400m and if so about how long does it take. and how long the video was that you rendered. the reason im asking only about 1080p is that my mb can work fine with 720p and it has the igpu for intel the x3100. also i mainly shoot in 1080p/60 frames per sec.
View 5 Replies View RelatedWhy can't you play 1080p video on a macbook pro or mac mini? This means you have to sync files which are over 1GB in size one at a time to the new ipad just to view them and this takes a long time. When at home, I use itunes via a macbook pro/mac mini for all my multi media connect to my TV, now I have GB's of files I cannot watch at home. Â
It kind of defeats the object, there is not enough space on an ipad to hold much HD content, certainly I will not be buying anymore HD video files from itunes for this reason. I am dissapointed to have wasted money on 1080p videos that I have to sync one at a time to a new ipad just to watch them. The new ipad screen is great but surely we need the option to watch 1080p HD video on out TV too? The crazy thing is that itunes/quicktime can easily handle 1080p video which is not from the itunes store so Apple must be deliberately restricting itunes bought 1080p HD video to the new ipad.Â

Yesterday I bought my first Mac (13 inch mid 2014 retina macbook pro). But now I have a question. When I want to watch a video on youtube, the highest quality I can choose is 720p. And I know these videos can be viewed in higher qualities (1080p or higher). Even on my girlfriends macbook pro (13 inch non retina) I can view these videos in 1080p. I am running video to a 40" RCA 1080P television via a HDMI to DVI cable from my Macbook Pro. The laptop has a GeForce 8600M GT GPU and has the capability to run 1080P. However, when I port a video (been trying with DVD Player) the image becomes pretty distorted. Is this a limitation of my laptops GPU or something else?
