MacBook Pro :: Easily Archive Emails In Apple Filling System By Moving Them Into Folder?

Aug 28, 2014

I would like to archive hundreds of my emails that currently exist in my apple mail email filing system by moving them into file folders in the finder. I can do this easily with a single email but it wont let me do it with multiple emails or a complete folder. Is there any way of do this easily?

OS X Mavericks :: How To Avoid Messages Going Automatically To Archive Folder In Apple Mail

Sep 1, 2014

I've been using Apple Mail (version 7.3 (1878.6)) on my MacBook Pro 13" (9,2) (MacOS 10.9.4) for years to integrate my GMail, university, and other e-mail accounts in the imap mode. Since some weeks, Mail is behaving odd: some messages are sent automatically to the archive folder. That's quite annoying, as I have to move them manually back to the inbox folder, and sometimes I mess some messages. I did not change any config in Apple Mail or my e-mails servers.

MacBook Pro :: Trash Folder In Mail Keeps Filling Up?

Mar 2, 2012

When I open Mail it syncs all the messages like it should and then I go thrrough and delete all the junk emails and inbox emails that arent important. They go to the Trash folder and when I click "erase them permanently" they disappear, but then the Trash folder starts filling up with more emails and adds up to 400 every 10 seconds until around 2000. No matter how many times I select them all and click delete it just fills up again.

Mac Pro :: Moving Apple Mail Folder To Data Volume

Jul 25, 2009

Read the below quote from Mac Performance Guide. Is it a good idea? I know a bit of DOS, so I am used to command line commands but even after after Lloyd Chambers explanation, still not sure what is going to happen? ln -s /Volumes/Master/Mail Library/Mail
The reason I want to move my Mail folder out of the home directory is because I plan to have a SSD as my boot drive and the home directory is on the boot drive, correct? "Moving the Apple Mail folder to your data volume".

This trick lets you move your Mail folder out of your home directory onto your data volume. I've used this technique for years so that I can forget about having to back up my home directory (default location for Apple Mail) and simply back up my one data volume: Master. The same trick can be used for any similarly irritating program that insists on storing its data in your home directory, rather than giving you a choice (a few programs are too brain-dead for this to work). Programs like iTunes let you choose where to put your music; use that option.

Your Apple Mail folder is in the Library folder of your home directory. The trick requires starting Terminal. If that makes you uncomfortable, stop here! You are going to make a symbolic link.
0. Quit Apple Mail, and make a backup of your mail folder.
1. Copy the Mail folder to the top level of your data drive (or elsewhere, then modify step 3 appropriately).
2. Rename the original mail folder to Mail.old as an additional backup.
3. Start a Terminal window and type:
ln -s /Volumes/Master/Mail Library/Mail

This makes a symbolic link to the folder Mail on the volume Master (type the name of your volume, and use quotes around it if the volume name contains a space character). The resulting file Library/Mail is a tiny file that says "look over there on /Volumes/Master/Mail instead". From here on out Apple Mail won't know the difference! Launch Apple Mail and verify that it worked. If you encounter problems, simply copy your backup back into place."

OS X :: Moving Windows Itunes Music Folder On NAS To Operating System

Sep 12, 2010

I took delivery of my new 27" imac on Saturday, previously I have always been a windows user. I love the feel of OSX however I am really struggling with getting my itunes to work. The NAS is split into different shares that I had mapped on my windows PCe.g R:Qmultimedia/Music (was on a windows 7 pc)ll my music files are located on this share: Qmultimedia/MusicI have mounted Qmultimedia as a Samba share using a automountmaker script. This connects at startup and the hard drive icon is on my desktop logged in as admin. I opened a brand new install of itunes today and did the following:Went into preferences and changed my library location to volumes/Qmultimedia/Music, then I selected add to library and picked my music folder from the mapped drive.

Intel Mac :: Moving Folder On Windows Server - System Password Asked

Jun 1, 2012

At work I work on a mac, but our files are on shared windows network drives. There's one particular drive which causes our mac users problems. It doesn't happen on all folders/files, but on some of them the following happens. I try to move a folder to another location, but then suddenly my mac asks for the system password. I fill that in and press ok, but nothing is moved. The folder is still in the same location. This only happens om certain folders and the funny thing is: when I try it on of the following days, the problem for that folder is gone and I can move the folder to the folder I wanted it to move.

But in the meantime there are other folders which can't be moved. Support - being not into Mac strangely enough - says it's a Mac problem and I should update to 10.7. It happens only to me and my colleagues at the place/office where I work. The windows server is at some place else so everything goes via internet. I keep insisting it's some kind of permissions thingy. Support says it's a Mac thing. What can be the problem and how can I make it clear to them that is isn't a mac thing?

ICloud On Mac :: Will Restoring System Or Particular Folder Recover Lost Emails

Sep 9, 2014

All emails from my iCloud account (previously .mac and then .me) inbox older than one week just disappeared. They had been in my inbox for years. Why did this happen now and are they recoverable?  I have Time Machine backups on my iMac. Will restoring my system or a particular folder recover the lost emails or were they only on the server?

Software :: Best Way To Archive Emails?

Aug 16, 2009

I'm trying to clean up some space on my computer, and my emails are taking a lot of space (I save most of them, and have done so for 5+ years). My strategy was to make a Smart Folder, give the rule "Older than a date". Set the date for about 1.5years ago. This made a mailbox with about 67K+ emails. Then I selected all of them and deleted them. When I quit email it fails to quit and crashes instead and when I open the program again the emails are still in the Smart Mailbox.

Any thoughts on the best way to accomplish this? Perhaps a third-party program?

Software :: Unable To Scroll Down Easily / Might Mouse Scrolls Up Easily?

Mar 24, 2009

My 2.5 year old (wired) mighty mouse gave up the ghost recently, and I just replaced it with a new one today.

The thing is... it doesn't seem to scroll "down" as easily as it scrolls "up" and "left to right". (as it is right now, I have to apply a lot more pressure to scroll down than I do to scroll up or laterally)

Is there an adjustment I can make to get this thing to scroll "down" as easily and freely as it does "up"?Has anyone else had this sort of issue, or is it just me? Ok, Thanks.

Why Are ICloud Emails Moving Into Trash Automatically

Jun 25, 2012

My wife has a MacBook running the latest version of Lion.In the last few days somehow Mac Mail has started to move many incoming messages into the trash, automatically. There are no rules set. I will move the emails back into the inbox, but then they get moved back.I have rebuilt the mailbox. Reset permissions. The computer is completely up to date. There are no settings in her iPhone that I can see that would cause this, and she doesn't access her iCloud email from other computers.

OS X Mavericks :: Apple Mail Search Not Searching Gmail Archive?

Aug 28, 2014

I recently got a new iMac and backed up from Time Machine.  Everything is fine apart from Apple Mail, which no longer searches my Gmail archive.  The archive is still there, all 33,000 messages, but just not searchable.

So, for example, if I got an email from a guy called George a month ago, when I search 'George' nothing comes up.  I can manually go to the Archive and find the email but obviously that takes a lot of time.

Is this an Apple issue or a Gmail issue?  Given that I run the same account on my laptop and it's all working fine, plus it was working fine before, I would assume it;s an Apple fault.
