Software :: Best Way To Archive Emails?

Aug 16, 2009

I'm trying to clean up some space on my computer, and my emails are taking a lot of space (I save most of them, and have done so for 5+ years). My strategy was to make a Smart Folder, give the rule "Older than a date". Set the date for about 1.5years ago. This made a mailbox with about 67K+ emails. Then I selected all of them and deleted them. When I quit email it fails to quit and crashes instead and when I open the program again the emails are still in the Smart Mailbox.

Any thoughts on the best way to accomplish this? Perhaps a third-party program?

Applications :: I Can Send Emails But Can't Receive Any Emails?

Mar 16, 2009

I have one problem again regarding my "MAIL"

I can send emails, without any problems...but I can't RECEIVE any emails, at all. All of a sudden.

On the left bottom corner, I can see, receiving 1 of 4, and after 1 min, the bar is gone, and I cannot get any emails at all.

When I login to the webmail (abc.com/webmail for instance), I can find there're 4 emails sitting there "unread"

May I know what's the problem? and how to fix it? because I want to be able to receive the mails from MAIL instead of logging in to webmail all the time.

OS X :: Archive And Install 10.3 To 10. 4

Sep 14, 2009

I'm going to upgrade my OS from Panther to Tiger. With "Archive and install" does it compress the old system before putting it in the Bibliotech. I'm worried that I won't have enough space left on my HD to hold the two systems. For the moment I have about 8.5 GB of free space with no app's running.(after a reboot) Or can I archive the old system to my ext. HD ( How) I'm not planning to install " other languages" or "other Printers" with the Tiger install.

OS X :: How Do I Archive My DVD Collection?

Apr 5, 2010

I have a sizable DVD collection (over 400 DVDs) that I want to get rid of. I may be moving to a much smaller apartemnt, and I'm just getting tired of moving these boxes/shelves all over the country, and having them take up space (especially since I watch them so rarely). I recently got rid of my entire CD collection (ripped to Apple Lossless) and find I don't miss the physical CDs at all. I'm hoping to have a similar experience w/ the DVDs. I want to move toward an all-digital existence (Kindle/iBooks, iTunes Music, Archived DVDs). I'm getting sick of storing/displaying physical media.

I have a nice home theater, so I don't want to rip compressed iPhone/AppleTV quality versions of these DVDs. I want true archival quality, as good as having the actual physical DVD (with extras, 5.1/7.1, all audio tracks, etc....if it's possible, of course).

I plan to soon buy a Mac Mini (whenever they're updated), that will store/run all these DVDs. I also want the option to re-burn physical DVDs from the digital copies (I don't think I'll be utilizing it, but I like to not back myself into a corner).

CAN I do this?

If so, what's the best way? Anyone have a similar experience?

OS X :: Copying An Archive From Iphoto And Itunes?

Nov 6, 2010

I have an IMAC osx 10.4.11 (purchased in 2007) and tried copying an archive from iphoto and itunes.

I have read the posts on error code 1309 (can't copy to My Book) and followed the instructions given. When I checked the settings, it displays that the format is FAT32 on the bottom left, and indicates that I have the volume set to MAC OS Extended Journal.

The ERASE tab indicates that the volume format is MS-DOS.

I don't have much data on MY BOOK and still have it on my hard drive so I'm not concerned about losing it.

I created an archieve of images in iphoto (115 GB-took 4 hours) and want to copy it to the My Book (500GB) drive.

Please provide guidance so I can complete this task.

Also, any advice on how to cut down on the amount of time this took. I have 11,000 images on my HD.

OS X :: Best Approach - Archive / Erase And Install

Feb 9, 2009

I've been having recurring problems that Disk Utility, TechTool Pro, DisWarrior, and Apple Hardware Test have been unable to identify and address. So, I'm now considering a system reinstall. But I'm not clear what the best approach is. It seems that Erase & Install is more thorough than Archive & Install, yet they both seem to enable one to carry over all of one's folders, files, apps, prefs, etc.: A&I as the "archive" name suggests; E&I because it offers the option to use Migration Assistant. So how do they really differ, and when would the seemingly less-thorough one (A&I) be preferred over the other (E&I)?
