MacBook Pro :: Awful Static When Plugging Into Speakers

May 24, 2010

Just received my new 15" i7 Macbook Pro today, and I like it a lot, but I'm having one major issue. I get awful static when I plug it in to my speakers via the headphone jack. I had no issues with the speakers on my previous Macbook (from around 2007). I even used the speakers just this morning with the old MB. The static comes whenever a sound is played, whether iTunes, a system sound etc. If there is no sound for a few seconds, it goes away, but immediately comes back the next time there is a sound. The static is fainly present using my Sennheiser headphones, and also with the built-in speakers. But t he sound is horrendous with external speakers. I've seen a lot of people with similar issues while searching the web, but no real solutions. Does anybody know?

MacBook Pro :: Getting Static Pop In Audio When Speakers Connected

Sep 26, 2007

Just got my 15 LED SR Macbook Pro. When I plug my bose speakers in at my desk and listen to itunes, I am getting a static pop sound. Should I take it back or is it fixable? By the way, LG panel and no yellow 1/3 of screen. Initially thought it was yellow, but I calibrated it, and now it only looks yellow if viewed from the side. Head on, white. One thing I have noticed, when I watch movies on it in the dark with the brightness turned down (cause this thing is a torch), I am getting quick flashes when a screen has high contrast light and dark. I am very sensative to LCD flat panel TVs that use a colorwheel. Like a JVC dilila, I see rainbows! Is that normal for an led flat panel to see "quick white flashes of light"?

MacBook :: Speakers Making Static Sound

May 29, 2009

Whenever an application uses the internet, such as Opera, Safari or aMSNn the speakers create a static, crackling sound thats incredibly annoying. The only way to get rid of it is to shut down the app that makes it (usually aMSN or Safari) but it may start again soon. It must be an issue wtih the speakers as it doesn't have any effect on headphones.

MacBook Pro :: Blown Speakers - Sound Extremely Static

Jun 16, 2007

I've had my MBP C2D for about 6-7 months now. Just recently both speakers seem to have blown. Any sound that comes out of it is extremely staticy. It happened the first time, but when I turned the sound off and back on again (with F3) it corrected itself. But now it's constant. I'm wondering if it's a hardware or a software issue. When I plug my iPod headphones into the side jack, I hear the same static. If it was just the speakers, wouldn't the headphones sound correct? Should I try to install the sound driver (can you do that in os x?), or do a reinstall of the OS? On a side note, I didn't buy the Apple Care package when I got my laptop.

Power Mac :: Stream Of Static Sound Coming From Speakers

May 31, 2012

I have logitech speakers set up with my MacPro, and there is a steady stream of static noise coming from the computer. It's not the speakers because I have tested them with another device. It's definitely coming from my desktop. The strange thing is that if I restart my machine it goes away for a bit. But it starts back up as I open programs, browse the web, etc.

MacBook Pro :: Awful WiFi Speeds - Getting 500k Per Second

Jun 7, 2010

So I've got a new 15 inch i7 MBP. SSD, 8 Gigs of ram.. it's awesome. The machine itself is insane. Crazy crazy fast. However, it's not nearly as fast in terms of WiFi speeds as my previous Macbook Pro. Using Unison to download usenet files, I was getting about 5 megs/second (I'm in Holland, our internet is crazy fast). With the new one, I'm getting about 500k/sec. I suppose it could be a coincidence and something could be wrong with the network, but it's been this way for days. Anyone have any idea what might be slowing things down? Could something be wrong, or would it just not work at all if that were the case? Hoping I don't have to send it in for service...

MacBook Pro :: Apple's Awful Repair Service (with Pics)?

Jun 20, 2009

Do the older macbook pro's like the Santa Rosa have liquid damage detection sensors? Or is just in the newer ones?

A year ago I spilled a tiny amount of beer on it and only a few drops got under 2 or 3 keys. I quickly popped them off, dried the area and everything was fine. My gpu failed recently due to the whole Nvidia thing and I had to ship it off to Apple. So I was wondering if they will be able to tell there was a spill and void my apple care warranty even though the failure was not caused by this?

I'm really worried because it was only a few drops and it did not leave any residue...

OS X :: 720p LCD TV - Awful Text - Blurry Screen

Nov 4, 2009

I purchased a 2.2 GHz Mac Mini today and connected it to my Samsung 720 p LCD TV via mini-DVI to HDMI adapter. I've already adjusted to remove overscan but all text on the screen is blurry. By blurry I mean it has ragged edges and looks "chunky." It's not good. Text looks clean and crisp on high-def TV channels. Photos look decent. Even YouTube videos (HD) look pretty good. But the text is awful. My display settings are 720p so it displays at 1280 x 720 @ 60 hz. If I plug in my Dell laptop, the same TV defaults to a 768 x 1360@60 hz display and looks great. I've tried all the display settings ranging from 480 p up to 1600 x 900.

ITunes :: Airplay Can't Connect To Remote Speakers Or Multiple Speakers When Speakers Are Visible In It

Apr 22, 2012

I have iTunes 10.6.1 (7) an Airport Extream Version 6.0 Airport Utility (600.92) That I use with two airport express stations, an Apple TV 2nd Generation with latest software up date.  Also have Ipad 3rd Generation and two I phone 4's. Issue:  After installing the latest Airport Utility software update I'm unable to connect to my remote speakers in iTunes.   The speakers are visible in the pop up menu but iTunes times out when trying to connect.  If I use remote to select Apple TV and then via Apple TV select my Computers Library I'm able to play music on the Apple TV / Home Speakers... but still not the Airport Express Stations.

When using remote on the iPhone or iPad the speakers are visible as well but I'm unable to select them... iTunes times out. I can steam music from that is on my iPhone or iPad to each individual speaker, but multiple speaker control is not available and the music from my library is not available. I believe the problem is in the Airplay feature of iTunes and I believe the problems arise when you install the latest version of Airport Utility.   You can play on remote speakers, only one at a time, and only if you have the music on a stand alone device (iPhone or iPad)... in summary, bypass iTunes and you can be successful... marginally successful.

MacBook :: Kernel Panic When Plugging In Headphones

May 28, 2009

I've noticed this happening for the past few weeks. Basically if I'm watching video on any flash website like YouTube, and I plug in headphones, I get a kernel panic. So as normal I hold the power button to shut it off. However, when I turn it back on, it will beep 2 times, then 3 times, and continue to beep until I turn it off. When I power it on again, it won't beep but it sits on the blank screen before the Apple logo shows up and basically nothing happens and my fans start to go loud. I did this about 3 times before it loaded to the Apple logo loading screen and finally booted properly. After it crashed I removed the headphones, and nothing except the magsafe charger is plugged in.

MacBook Pro :: Audio Latency When Plugging In Headphones?

Jan 2, 2010

I have an issue that happens with my Macbook Pro. In certain applications, if I plug in my headphones - or unplug them, switching to speaker - from that point on the rest of the audio that the application outputs is delayed by about half-a-second. Now I could be talking-out-of-my-ass here, but this seems to *only* happen with applications that would be accessing the audio hardware through a more basic layer than the standard CoreAudio methods. For instance, it occurs in REAPER and Parallels, but not in Quicktime or iTunes. I find that if it does happen, if I can get the application to close the hardware and reopen it this fixes it. For instance, in Parallels I switch to a dummy output and then back, and it's fixed.

MacBook Pro :: Why Plugging / Unplugging Headphone Give Beachballs

Oct 18, 2009

I'm having a weird problem on a two-week old 13" MBP. When I plug in headphones whatever sound was playing, if any, will stop for 10-15 seconds and during this time the volume keys on the keyboard are unresponsive (along with any keyboard keys that operate hardware things...backlight for keyboard, display brightness, although the dashboard and expose keys work). Same goes if I unplug the headphones. If I'm in iTunes, I get a beachball isolated to iTunes during this. When iTUnes recovers from the beachball it "realizes" that it should have actually been playing for the last ten seconds and catches up. I fresh install snow leopard a few days ago. Why would plugging/unplugging headphones (they are the ones that came with my iPhone 3GS) give a beachball in iTunes?

MacBook Air :: Plugging Into Wrong Port - Computer Screen Goes Black

I was BBMing while trying to plug in my headphones with my pheripherals, and I accidentally pushed it (not very hard) into the USB port. The tip of the headphone jack connected with the little connector ball at the bottom of the USB port. The screen went black and I instantly hit the power button on instinct, so I don't know if it shut off. Did I do something very bad, or is that normal? I'm not sure if that's even considered an electric shock or what.

MacBook Pro :: No Audio Out From Speakers / Not Showing Internal Speakers

Mar 19, 2008

MacBook Pro 2.16
10.4.11

Situation: no sound out from speakers in admin and user account and newly created account. Headphones work, startup chimes work on speakers.

Go to Sound in Preferences and only shows Digital Out for output. Should show Internal Speakers. Ran Diskwarrior and Applejack and zapped pram. Took mac apart and confirmed speakers wired correctly which is verified by the start up chimes being audible on the internal speakers. tested all accounts and created new account all with the same results. Did search of Google and MacRumor. Found one unaswered post indicating same problem. Had same problem with another macbook pro, ran same steps, take apart, confirm wiring setup, Diskwarriored, applejacked and zapped pram and it fixed the problem. I'm not sure what else to try. Did check Audio Midi Setup util and it also did not see the internal speakers.

MacBook Pro :: Plugging In External Firewire Audio Interface Raises Temp?

May 12, 2010

Today I connected my Mackie Onyx Satellite Firewire audio interface to my 2.4 Ghz 13" Macbook Pro for the first time. After it had been running for a while, I looked at iStat Pro, and it reported a CPU temperature of 67C, which is about 15 to 25 degrees hotter than this machine usually idles. Now I've looked around a little bit and found that it's a known issue and associated with the Agere Firewire chipsets. Is there any solution for this? Does it make a difference if you use a daisy chain setup with an external hard drive in between the computer and the audio interface, or a repeater cable, or anything of that nature?
