Oct 23, 2009New to Macs but loving it so far. I see postings about checking fan speeds and cpu temp but cant find anywhere on the mac to check these issues. Is there software on the macbook air to check these or is this separate software?

Mar 24, 2009New to the Mac world here,and really diggin my G4,which I got for free.But I need help with a frustrating situation. Here's the specs: Powermac Gigabit Ethernet dual 500 mHz G4,40 GB primary and 160 GB slave HDs,2 GB RAM,and a fresh install of Tiger with almost nothing downloaded,basically,a brand new machine. The issue: both firefox and Safari are sludgy on internet speed--watching Youtube videos,using Facebook,etc. It's not an ish with my router or modem--my older PC's blaze. it's really frustrating,and I've maxed out the RAM,so I want to know if an upgrade to a 1.8 or 2.0 processor will alleviate this problem once and for all,or if I have a boat anchor. Honestly,I don't do hardcore computing,just burn DVDs,a little photoshop,and play on the internet. There's no reason it should be so damn sluggish watchibng streaming video or simply writing on someone's 'wall' on Facebook.

Mar 8, 2010Has anyone gotten to the bottom of this thermal calibration error with the G5? I see lots of discussion of a possible bug in ASD thermal calibration and claims that it can destroy the eeprom that stores the calibration info on the logic board. So what's the bottom line here? Does this error in reality indicate that the eeprom is no longer writable? Could this simply be an issue of the inner door not sealed properly (perhaps this calibration is critically sensitive to this)?
The fans are racing as intended since the CPU's have been replaced and the calibration stored on the logic board is no longer correct. Everything is fully functional and passes all tests. The inner shield is in place and the sensor (by the rightmost tab) sees it there. The intake fan is running. I also tried another fan with no change. I suspect that some overly high sensitivity to the fan speed is not really the issue here. I have a dual 2.5GHz G5. The liquid cooling system is completely refurbished and the system passes ASD tests. I currently have ASD 2.5.8. I see reports of success using this version so there must be some hardware related issue here.

I am using the WIFI at a guesthouse in Thailand (but I had the same issue in China, Vietnam ...). I ran a speed test and it said download 7mb/sec and upload about 1mb/sec. I have an "app" that says bandwidth in 1.3kb/sec out 1.0kbs. I thought maybe it was Safari so I downloaded and installed Firefox. firefox gives me similar speeds. When I downloaded Firefox though I had a download speed of over 1mb/sec. But as soon as it finished downloading the speed went back to around 1kb/sec. I have rebooted my MBP many times. Apr 10, 2009I have a WDS local network at my house. I use a Airport Extreme in my main part of the house and a Airport Express for my back part of the house i.e. the backyard. Now every two weeks or so my internet speed through my Airport Express slows down about half the speed but when I am connected trough the Airport Extreme my speed is normal. I know this because I test my connection very often. Now when I want the Airport Express to get back up to speed I have to unplug, and plug it back in. Then after awhile it starts to slow down again in a time period of two weeks or so.

I often have at least 1 of the mentioned Adobe applications, as well as a streaming video and 5-10 browser tabs open at once. So, which is better for my purposes, the 4gb more RAM but slower processor, or the faster processor with 4gb less RAM?
