I'm looking for an app for my mac which can test my ADSL download speed automtically at regular intervals through the day and log the results for me to look over later.

My iMac is making a sound that seems like a "pop" every few minutes. It seems like a notification, but it isn't one. It never did this in a year, but it started two weeks ago. It's really annoying. I called the Apple Support but they didn't manage to help me out.

When I did a speakeasy test, it turned out that I am getting exactly half of our allotted bandwidth. Is there a way to configure this APE to act more like a router that truly shares a connection rather than a splitter that's cutting it in half? Any help would be much appreciated as I'm getting download speeds of 7kb/s and it takes around 15 seconds to load google!!
What is the quickest way to check my internet connection speed in Tiger?On a PC, I've always known it's as simple as hovering the cursor over the connection icon in the taskbar. It's been like that at least since XP if not earlier.In OSX though (Tiger at least) the Airport icon in the menubar doesn't give any of that information.
View 14 Replies View RelatedI am able to monitor my wireless network no problem using something as simple as iStat pro but, for example, my xbox is connected to the router via ethernet cable so doesn't appear on any of the apps I have for found for monitoring network traffic. Is there an app that i can use to monitor the source i.e. the router itself, to see what speed/bandwidth the ethernet ports are using?

recently I bought WD6400AAKS hard drive. I made to partitions (1st for OS and applications, 2nd one for photo files). I also did fresh OS install and loaded basic applications. Strangely I didn't notice any speed boost while booting and to be honest I feel like all applications (photoshop for example) are also starting much slower than on original hdd.
Is there any way to test hard drive if it performs as it should be? I also have 2 more older drives installed. is it possible that one of them would slow the system down?
i have a 1.5 Mbps AT&T DSL connection, and multiple speed tests show a download speed of 1.2 Mbps (and 200 Kbps upload). when i download files, such as software updates from Apple, various podcasts, and even Silverlight from Microshaft, the speed is always between 140 - 160 Kbps. i contacted AT&T, and the rep said it was because of buffering by the servers i was receiving the files from. is this a reasonable explanation? is this an accurate use of the term "buffering"?

i have an imac 21' with OS 10.5 leopard and all the updates installed and everything is supposed to be running smoothly.and i use the iStat pro to track everything. a week ago, i noticed something really strange. something is downloading on my computer and eating all the bandwidth to the extent i can't even browse the internet. i quit all the programs running but still it was not faltering. the only thing that seemed to work is to turn off airport and turning it on again, is there any other way to know what is doing that to me and how to stop it. i read somewhere about littlesnitch but it did not help me. any suggesstions on what does this and how to manage it?

Since then it takes it about 10-15 minutes to start up, even after it starts up it takes a few more minutes for things to work at a regular speed. I have cleared firefox cache and reset the Pram.

I just found that when I download from the net, via http, my internet speed is up to 50 kbps but I used transmission once which offered me more than 200 kbps, which means that my net is able to get more than 200 kb/s so can anyone tell me how how to get more speed on applications like safari.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a WDS local network at my house. I use a Airport Extreme in my main part of the house and a Airport Express for my back part of the house i.e. the backyard. Now every two weeks or so my internet speed through my Airport Express slows down about half the speed but when I am connected trough the Airport Extreme my speed is normal. I know this because I test my connection very often. Now when I want the Airport Express to get back up to speed I have to unplug, and plug it back in. Then after awhile it starts to slow down again in a time period of two weeks or so.

I have Powerpoint on the PC, and there you are able to rehearse and save timings, i.e; say you have a project and have music in the background, you can go to the next slide depending on when you click 'Next' or whatever? Get what I mean? So you're able to rehearse timings so you don't have to control it, it's kind of like a movie. Let me know how to do this with Keynote 09'.
