I've got a G5 DP with the infamous white noise problem coming through my speakers that was only fixed after downloading the chud tools and disabling the NAP settings - does anyone know if I'll have the same issues if I install Leopard? Want to upgrade but don't want to waste my money if the noise comes back and I can't get it to work. Also, I'm using an m-audio firewire 410 that doesn't have drivers yet; has anyone used the Tiger drivers with success on Leopard?

I have an iMac G5 (circa 2005) with a non intel processor, I recently purchased Snow Leopard to update this, however it advised I need an Intel Processor to install Snow Leopard. Is there a way of getting round this, the main reason being is I want to use the Magic Trackpad - but ive been told this will only run on Snow Leopard OSX? If anyone could answer this asap I would be grateful, today is the last day I can take back Snow Leopard and the Magic Trackpad to the Apple Store for a refund.

On Apples site, it says that you need a Intel processor to run Snow leopard, but then below it says you need a 64bit processor which is what he doesn't have.

The 2011 macbook pro with i7 processor will not power up or charge at all. The problem started after my battery ran out and the computer shut down. Since then, when I plug in the charger only the green light turns on. In addition the light on the base (in front of the keyboard) flashes. Nothing happens when I hit the power button. The charger still works on other laptops. To emphasize, the screen will not even light up. It sounds as if the computer is starting (for less than a second) before stopping, only to start again but that is purely speculative.

I recently obtained a (free) Power Mac G4 (Dual 500Mhz, AGP, Gigabit Ethernet) I am looking to upgrade the processor and video. Can anyone advise on what video card would work on this machine? Do I have to go with a Mac edition AGP card (ATI Radeon X800 Pro Mac Edition) or can I use any (PC) AGP card, for example the Radeon HD 4000 or Geforce 7 series?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI am perfectly happy with my MBA, but I must admit that I like to always have the "latest and greatest". The new MacBooks look great, although I haven't seen one "live" or had the opportunity to get hands on with one yet. If I buy a new MacBook, I give up the form factor, but gain the processor power, features, etc. Also, it will really feel like a new computer because of the different appearance. Since I like the MBA form factor, I was thinking of just upgrading to that. The problem is that it won't even feel like I got a new laptop, because visually it would be identical to the one I have now. In fact, the reduced battery life may not offset the benefit of larger HD and improved graphics. Dying for a new laptop though... what are you other MBA owners thinking?

Is it possible to update my Dual 2GHz PowerPC G5 to an Intel or other processor? Of course, I'm finding that my machine is not being supported by software developers anymore?I'm running 10.5.8 on my Power Mac (June 2004).

I've been looking around for an additional gigabit ethernet card for my single 1.8 G5 processor. I've read many of the postings but they relate to the 1.8 dual processor with pci-x. I only have pci slots (4 ram slot model - late 2004 revision) and am stumped.
The DGE-528T looked like it may work, then I read it hasnt been confirmed as working for the G5 sinle processor as of yet.
The next card that may work is the Intel PRO/1000MT.

View 2 Replies View RelatedApple alongside its 2009 Back-to-School promotion on Wednesday also updated its entry-level white MacBook with a faster Intel processor, memory architecture and more hard disk space.
The update was announced quietly on the company's online store. For the same $999 Apple charged for the previous iteration of the white polycarbonate model, users get a 2.13GHz processor (up from 2.0GHz), a 160GB Serial ATA Drive @ 5400 rpm (up from 120GB), and 2GB 800MHz DDR2 SDRAM (up from 2GB 667MHz DDR2 SDRAM).The update is the second this year to the Cupertino-based company's entry-level notebook offering, the first of which arrived on January 21st when model was updated with NVIDIA's 9400M graphics architecture.
That update also saw the notebook gain the same 2.0GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor and 1,066MHz front-side bus employed by the mid-range aluminum unibody MacBook, as well as a doubling of its memory to 2GB. The new white MacBook is eligible for Apple's just-announced Back-to-School promo, which offers a $229 online rebate good for a free 8GB iPod touch to qualifying education individuals who purchase a qualifying Mac and the iPod on the same receipt before September 8th.
I was just wondering if i bought the imac with a 2.5ghz quad core processor if apple could switch out that processor with a 3.4 ghz quad core processor. I understand apple makes it easy for the user to add extra ram and i will be doing that within the first week but id like to have a more powerful processor without paying 1,999 for the 27in 3.1ghz

I've been running some deinterlacing jobs with Compressor on our Mac Pro 3,1 dual processor. We'd added some RAM so I was interested to have a look in Activity Monitor to see how it was faring and noticed that the CPU activity never went above 50%. I find it very hard to believe that Compressor isn't intended to take advantage of both processors.
