Mac Pro :: 2x4GB DIMMs Showing Up As 2x2GB - Had 18GB Now Only 14GB RAM

Oct 7, 2009

I installed SL on my hard drive (upgrade from Leopard) and it worked great, just popped in my Intel X25-M G2 160GB today, installed SL.

I checked my About This Mac info and it shows I have ONLY 14GB RAM, I had 18GB before...

Does anyone know why?

IMac :: RAM Mixing (2x2GB + 2x4GB)?

Oct 27, 2009

I'm going to be getting an iMac 27" when they come out and just get the stock 2x2GB sticks of RAM that come with it. I want to upgrade to 8GB... but I'm doing 2x4GB so that if I ever decided I wanted to do 16GB (I don't see why, but why not at least have half of it?).

My question is, if I do this, should I leave the 2x2GB sticks in with the 2x4GB sticks? Or should I take them out?

There seems to be some conflicting ideas about what RAM to use. I know you're supposed to do it in pairs, but I don't know how the iMac handles having 4 slots.

Each bank has a 4gig and a 2gig. I installed them into the machine with the 2x4gig on the left, and the 2x2gig on the right, and the "banks" are apparantly front and back, not side and side.

IMac :: Memory Compatibility (DIMMS Work In Aluminum)

Apr 22, 2009

I have two 512mb 667MHz DDR2 DIMMS from an old first generation Intel iMac. Would one of these DIMMS work in the Aluminum iMac running a single 1GB 800MHz DDR2 DIMM? Common sense tells me "No" and that this combination could cause Kernal Panics, etc with different speeds of RAM installed. However, I thought it was worth asking since I have these two DIMMS sitting here doing nothing and my mate could use the extra memory for free.

MacBook Pro :: Kingston Ddr3 1066 8gb (2x4gb) Work On 13" Unibody?

Dec 31, 2010

I purchased a brand new Macbook Pro from Best Buy a few months back, it is the 13" unibody with a 2.26 ghz dual core processor and came with 2gb of memory installed. I just bought the two sticks of memory from [URL] which were Kingston DDR3 1066 204-pins, 4gb each. My friend told me that my Macbook Pro will only support up to 6gb, but my manual says that it supports up to 8gb. He also said that people have been having trouble with their motherboards by installing too much (8gb) of memory. I've done some research and looks like I'm good to go, but just want some reassurance before I install the new memory. One last thing, he also told me that 8gb is only supported on the i7 processors?

They have exactly the same IMAP settings other than username and password.My email messages for the account that doesn't work, shows up fine on my iPhone/iOS and gmail.com.None of the messages in the inbox or folders/labels show up. I then tried the 4 2's in riser A and the 1's in riser B. It didn't seem to matter, all that would show up is what was in Riser A. Could it be a bad riser or something?

MacBook Pro :: RAM Is Not Showing Up?

Jun 21, 2012

I have a macbook pro mid 2009 running Lion (upgraded twice). Right now, there are two sticks of 4gb RAM in the computer, however, if I go to about this mac, system profiler, or activity moniter, they all show that I have only 4gb, while I should have 8 (photoshop is running slower than it should, so obviously one stick is not being used.)

After testing a few times, I have found:

The not functioning slot is the bottom slot, If I try to start up my computer with a stick of RAM in there only, my macs screen stays dark and beeps periodically along with the "sleep" light flashing. However, if I just use the top slot, my computer works fine.

I know its not the RAM sticks themselves because i've also tested with 1 and 2 gb ram, so I suspect my ram slot is broken somehow. It looks fine, the ram goes in and everything, but obviously something's wrong.

I ran hardware test and it said everything was fine, but still only showed 4 gb total ram and told me theres nothing in the other slot.

So is my RAM slot just disconnected or something/broken?
