I have a 27" iMac and recently picked up the latest model MacBook. I also picked up a 4Gb (2x2) RAM. I placed the 4Gb in the MacBook and decided to place that 2GB from the MB in my iMac to boost it to 6GB.
Here is my question, did I place the RAM in the best slots, assuming there is such a thing as best slots. I remember from the old day of PC that there was a strict order for placement else I may not get the most out of the additional RAM. It does register as 6GB when I click on 'About This Mac'. Below is a diagram and screen shot to show exactly what I did.
I had a quick question about the screen and how it dimms at wierd times.like the screen to be on the brightest possible setting but some times it dimms to a lower level. Why is that? Does it have to do with the light in my room?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have two 512mb 667MHz DDR2 DIMMS from an old first generation Intel iMac. Would one of these DIMMS work in the Aluminum iMac running a single 1GB 800MHz DDR2 DIMM? Common sense tells me "No" and that this combination could cause Kernal Panics, etc with different speeds of RAM installed. However, I thought it was worth asking since I have these two DIMMS sitting here doing nothing and my mate could use the extra memory for free.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI installed SL on my hard drive (upgrade from Leopard) and it worked great, just popped in my Intel X25-M G2 160GB today, installed SL.
I checked my About This Mac info and it shows I have ONLY 14GB RAM, I had 18GB before...
Does anyone know why?
can I use 2-2GB RAM modules in 2 slots and 2-4GB modules in the other two slots, or do all 4 modules need to be the same size?

So I went down to the local Apple store to have a gander at the new iMacs the other day. Think I'm going to get one.
The weird thing is that I opened up Terminal on one and had look at mach_kernel in the / directory, expecting to see two kernel architectures, x86_64 and i386. Lo and behold, there was a third one; architecture ppc.
The remaining battery indicator (top right) is not completely accurate. The measurement (time) constantly varies.
As far as I know a 13" MacBook Pro should have 10 hours battery time. In this case the reading constantly changes from about 8:52 hours then back to 9:12 hours, 9:34, and other readings, etc.
Is this normal?
I'm installing Maverics from t'ha Apple Store.
Downloading took less than 30 minutes on my high speed connection.
After reinstalling Maverics is installing saying 'Time remaining: About 120 hours and 17 minutes'
i don't want to spend 120 hours!!!

I've just got myself a nice new Mac Pro and am really surprised to find that it is more different to Windows than I was expecting.   I feel like a toddler trying to learn a new language to do all the things I am used to doing on Windows.Â
Quite often I just Google my Q's....or search on YouTube, and usually get the answers quickly.
I can't seem to find a specific answer for this Q though.....
On Windows, whenever you downloaded something, you were given a % telling you how much had been downloaded and how much was left still. It also gave you the progress in gb / kb.Surely there must be a way of having this info show whenever I download something ? I really do not want to go to the App Store and start buying things.
simple Q: I know these slots can be used for GPUs and sound cards, but what other uses are there?

I dunno whether if is affecting it but my estimated battery life says 2 hours and is around 90% now. I did fully charge it and have some other stuff on the background so. Also, I've read that people have it charged for maximum battery life so. If you can charge it, do it or if its around 60% or something it should be charged?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have very recently upgraded to Lion on my late 2009 Intel Core 2 Duo iMac. When the machine goes to sleep on wake up - instead of going to the log on screen, the display remains black but when I move the mouse the display creates a grey pixel trace wherever the pointer should be. I also end up with the desktop clock in the top right.
To log on, I have to literally "colour in" the area where my profile icon should be which enables me to input my password. Also, on wake up, any applications that I had open like Safari, Word, iTunes etc are all closed and not open in the dock. On a separate matter, when this happens I cant wake my imac up to access my itunes library for home sharing on my ATV3 and 4S.

I'm attempting to use the migration assistant to migrate from one MacBook Air to another. It has been stuck on "less than 1 minute remaining" for over 18 hours now. If I look at the network, there is a large amount of traffic between the two machines, all of it TCPv6 going from the migration destination to the migration source machine, port 1024.Â
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have the Power Mac G5 Dual Processor 2.0 GHZ, with 3 GB of RAM, but I would like to upgrade but this model only has four slot, not 8. On the logic board, I can see little holes where the other 4 slots are meant to be, but obviously they aren't there. Is there any way to upgrade this G5 so it has 8 slots, rather than 4? I haven't found anything about this on the Apple Discussions, or MacRumors.

I am new (sort of) to owning a Mac, I bought my macbook pro a couple days ago, so far I havent used it much for other than surfing the net. My question is regarding the Battery time remaining indicator, first of all it changes alot, so i never truly know how much time I have left. Is this normal? It can say anywhere from 3-6 hours left when I am at 90% battery. Usually at 90% battery it says I have about 4.5 - 5 hour left. I thought I was supposed to get up to ten hours of battery? The percent indicator seems to go down fairly fast like 1% every few minutes. Is this Normal? Should I take my macbook over to the apple store to be checked out?

The battery indicator on the top menu bar on my other MBP's gives 3 selectable options for display: Icon Only, Percentage, and Time Remaining. My new MBP retina only has 'Icon' and 'Percentage'. You can still see time remaining by clicking on the battery icon manually.Â
Applecare said "they must have removed it for that new version of the MBP, you could always try reinstalling the O/S from scratch just to be sure".Â
Under Energy Saver the only option is to 'show battery status' on the top bar.Â

Someone else pointed out in another thread that on the 11" MBA with 4 GB, if you look in System Profiler under memory, the software says that there are two RAM slots. I can confirm that on my MBA. So:
1) Is the same true on the 13" with 4 GB RAM?
2) Has anyone published a tear down of a 4 GB model just to be absolutely sure that there is only one soldered RAM slot? (I know it's unlikely that a second one got crammed in there, but I'd just like to see the tear down picture)...
I noticed on the Apple refurb site that Mac Pros from 2010 have either 4 or 8 memory slots. Is there an easy way to tell how many memory slots a computer will have? From what I have seen it looks like the quad core machines will have 4 slots while the eight core machines have eight slots. How many memory slots are in the hex core machines?

Currently I have a GTX 285 in Slot 1, and a GT 120 in Slot 3. Slot 2 is the faster slot, which I would think would benefit the GT 120, but then it's closer to the GTX 285 that leads to overheating concerns. I'm going to run anything graphics intensive on the GTX 285-connected monitor, so any real drawback then to having the GT 120 in Slot 3?
