I've bought a mac pro in jan 2008 with the 8 core 2.8 ghz setup and 2x 1gb of ram.

Now i want to upgrade but im doubting what will give me the most performance:

4x1gb = 137 dollar

What would you guys do? I read that one gb modules are faster because I already have 2x1 gb and with 1gb all modules will be even...

Mac Mini :: Finding Recommended RAM (2x2GB)

Planning to order a new Mac Mini in the coming week and would like to get some advice as to what to go with in terms of memory - brand and model-wise. I will be going for 2 x 2GB of course.

I see here on newegg that one reviewer is saying that the corsair modules don't seem to be working with his Mac (isolated case?).

IMac :: RAM Mixing (2x2GB + 2x4GB)?

Oct 27, 2009

I'm going to be getting an iMac 27" when they come out and just get the stock 2x2GB sticks of RAM that come with it. I want to upgrade to 8GB... but I'm doing 2x4GB so that if I ever decided I wanted to do 16GB (I don't see why, but why not at least have half of it?).

My question is, if I do this, should I leave the 2x2GB sticks in with the 2x4GB sticks? Or should I take them out?

There seems to be some conflicting ideas about what RAM to use. I know you're supposed to do it in pairs, but I don't know how the iMac handles having 4 slots.

MacBook Pro :: 13" Processor Upgrade Vs RAM Upgrade?

Nov 17, 2010

Looking at getting a 13" MPB to replace my aging Macbook. I am aware of the imminent arrival of the next gen next year, but still seriously considering getting a current gen.

Anyway, I am debating between getting the 2.66GHz version with 4GB RAM and the 2.4GHz version with 8GB RAM. I already have a 500GB 7200rpm HDD which I will transplant into it. Some stage in the next year or so I will look into getting an SSD and optibay for it.

I know that if I get the faster processor I can upgrade the RAM at a later date, but is the faster processor worth the money, or would I be better spending on RAM?

Mac Pro :: Upgrade Video Card Vs Upgrade Entire System?

Jan 28, 2010

I am kicking around between upgrading video card in my 1st gen Mac Pro (2 x 2.66 dual core, 8gb ram) from 7300 Gt to ati 4870 vs. upgrading to a newer system altogether...

Newer MP has 2 x 2.66 quad cores, 12 gb ram with the 4870 card.) What kind of improved performance might I really expect or even notice when using photoshop, light video editing, 3d graphics.

I have not included costs because I want to focus on the performance boosts sans cost for the purpose of this discussion.

I'm not sure what it intends to do to my Mail messages and I'm slightly fearful because many of them are Outlook Express messages that were transferred from my old PC. Anyone gone ahead and done this 'mail upgrade' yet? and did you have any issues?

Mac Pro :: Upgrade MP 2.66 3.33 Chip Or Upgrade BMP 2.80 To 8GB?

I have a 2.66GHz Mac Pro (4-core) with 8GB RAM.

I also have a 2.80GHz MacBook Pro (mid-2009) with 4GB RAM.

My main programs are Flash, Dreamweaver, and Photoshop. I use these on both Macs.

I do a small amount of AfterEffects, UltraFractal, Bryce 6, and Cinema4D, but nothing *big*. I typically use these on the Mac Pro only.

I spend most of my time on the Mac Pro.

MacBook Pro :: How To Upgrade Ram In MP?

Aug 30, 2010

I have a Mid 2009 Model Macbook Pro 17" with currently 4 Gigs of ram. I contacted Apple and to upgrade to 8 Gigs of ram from them would cost me $600.

( Type of Ram is Apple Memory Module 8GB 1066MHz DDR3 (PC3-8500) - 2x4GB SO-DIMMs )

That is a ton! I was shocked.

I looked at newegg.com and it looks to be around 250 bucks to upgrade and buy ram from there.

So I have a quick couple of questions.

1. What brand of Ram do you think is the best?

2. Do you guys know of any other places to buy it from for less?

3. Will this void my Applecare warranty?

I looked up how to switch it and that seems quite simple so no help needed there.

Mac :: Upgrade To SSD & 4GB RAM Or New Macbook Pro

Dec 19, 2010

I just inherited a seldom used 13" MacBook Pro. It has a cycle count of 20. Unfortunately, it was purchased on January 30th. It has 2+ years of Apple Care left. Unfortunately, its a base model. 2.26ghz, 2gig RAM, 160gb 5400 HD. But it's in amazing condition. I figure I can sell it on eBay for 800. What's a better option. Getting a new one (applying the money from the sale) with 2.66ghz, 4gig RAM, and a larger HD or upgrading the current to a SSD and 4GB RAM. Essentially, will the solid state be a better performance booster than the increase in processor speed? It will save me the hassle of selling the current laptop (eBay is annoying). Plus, I can do the upgrades myself.

MacBook Pro :: How To Upgrade RAM To 8GB In MBP?

Apr 26, 2010

I have a 2009 15" 2.8 Macbook Pro with 4GB of RAM. I shoot photography for a living, mostly relying on Photoshop and Aperture for all of my work.

I use my laptop alongside a PC desktop with an i7 and 8GB RAM. I am thinking of going completely mobile and am going to sell my PC desktop for $1000 so I have $1000 to spend on new stuff.

Should I sell my 15" laptop and upgrade to an 15" i7 with 4GB RAM or should I purchase an 8GB kit of RAM for my laptop right now and hold off on the i7 upgrade?

Will RAM in the 2009 macbook pro work in the new 2010 macbook pros, should I upgrade to the i7 model in the future?

MacBook Pro :: Upgrade MBP To 8GB Ram?

May 8, 2010

I have a 13" 2.26GHz MacBook Pro with 2GB of ram. I run a lot of graphic-intense programs such as Photoshop, Illustrator, Painter, Premier, Final Cut and some audio programs such as Reason and ProTools.

Searching around on the net I've found a lot of people saying that the MacBook Pro does not really take advantage of the 8GB and that most people need no more than 4GB.

So, the question is, has anyone upgraded their MacBookPro to 8GB and if so, did you notice a significant increase in speed or do you feel that 4GB would be fine?
